  • I wish I had a camera to film it though. Even then however, my keyboard is just a normal keyboard (Yamaha PSR-E323), not a synthesizer, so I don't even have this sound. I am so jealous of all the people who can play it with an actual synth, because the closest I can get to it is combining a voice called "Analogue" with a voice called "SynthLead", and because there's no aftertouch, it doesn't sound as good :(

  • I can do it too. Easier than it looks.

  • @ChocolateHoneycomb I'm looking forward to your video. :)

  • @kylehudson00 No sorry, I haven't got a camera for it. I would love to film it, but I can play it, trust me. I used this video, along with painist007's video for assistance. You just alternate between two different keys in the first half while your thumb does the rest, and then the second half is easy because it's not fast.

I swear when I first saw you play I thought "Shit, I'll never do this..." A few months later, I can play this pretty well (not nearly as well as you though)

  • perfect!

  • Yay, I can play the first twenty seconds now.

  • Comment removed

  • I don't even understand how this is possible.

  • seeing that makes me wanna give up on playing. my fingers will never be able to move like that. incredible!!!

  • Oh, by the way, how long did it take you to learn this?

  • That was amazing, I am jealous. I now feel depressed because I can't play this… Please Please Please could you tell me the notes! :(

  • wow, really nice.

  • great job Kyle. I've just recently started playing this on my 6 string bass. Great song!

  • Thank you.You kick ass.Can you tell me what notes you play? Are their keyboards I can buy that can let me play this song without knowing how to play the piano?Sorta like a guitars Tabs deal. Tony Banks was awesome. This solo is awesome, love it"raindrops keep falling on my head". I'd like to hear you play "eleventh earl of mars"

  • Impresionante, felicitaciones!! excelente

  • ...so is there some issues around... maybe you were fastest than the original instrumental or maybe is the recording pitch slightly higher?

    However, well done!

  • Three years laye but...great performance Kyle, perfect playing of the two quadruplets in a row at around 10 sec. of the synth solo, perfect duplication of Tony's way in both playing accent and phrasing especially considering the special semi-tone use which Tony always had on all his most important solos and/or chord sequences. Just a question. Did you play on TSL album or video version of ITC? Tony's synth solo on album runs 49.9, while video (the fastest ever) 49.3, while yours is 48.5 so...

  • @AloBerni I honestly can't remember, sorry. Thanks for the compliments.

  • @AloBerni This is Three Sides Live version

  • @AloBerni , you completely fucked up my brains with your mumbo-jumbo, and I am a technical guy.....

  • Ho. Ly. Crap. The only person that could get anywhere NEAR playing it this well is my brother, and he can't even play it WITH the song. Kudos to you, my friend.

  • Oh lovely !!!!!!!!!!

  • just doing this piece for an audition in manchester for a pop music course, and i've gotta say, don't ever underestimate Tony banks. I mean, at face value this solo seems pretty easy because it's not exactly impossibly fast, but the figurations are tough. I mean, it's not Rachmaninoff or Lizst, but for a prog song it's quite a challenge.

  • @omegablake "face-melting syth solo"?? I love it!!!!!!!!! Perfect description of my face when I used to try and learn this by ear back in the 80's. No bloody way.

  • @omegablake Comical :):):)

  • I am just a beginner but I watch this video like every day, truly inspiring!

  • thats dead easy

  • @skintrade I'm looking forward to seeing your version then, smartass. ;-)

  • @kylehudson00 you made it look dead easy!!!!!

  • @skintrade Ohhh haha in that case, thanks! :)

  • Well done. But the Bb at 0:44 is not played twice; it is sustained.

  • @ekted It's played twice on "Three Sides Live", which is what I based this performance off. :)

  • @ekted

Dang you guys get in to the nitty gritty details of each keystroke. :-D Cool! Wish I could play as well as that!!

  • perfect, thank you for sharing

  • Brilliant :)

  • which idiots pressed the dislike button?

  • I can play almost all of Tony Banks's keyboard solos - except for this one. Damn, is it hard... but you pull it off. :)

  • um...your flub was so minute...just beautiful execution of a classic solo.you certainly brought it to life !

if i were auditioning a "banks" tribute keyboardist, youd have the gig.

  • @babyspeke Thanks so much for the kind comments!

  • this is just so good

  • very good, i enjoy your playing style also

  • Excellent job! Very fluid like Banks!

  • O.=.O;; Aaah! Your fingers are so quickly that I can't follow them. That was awesome! It's one of my favorite songs.

  • Very good but you cheat a little bit a the end but you are awesome

  • wow, amazing

  • Nicely done. Did you just play this by ear or did you see it written out? I haven't seen any sheet music to this yet.

  • Eroe, ora lo imparo anche io !

  • this is my favorite version of this on youtube. coment mine plz?

  • WOO! THat was awesome

  • How about a " virtual " genesis cover band?

  • Great song; great playing, I love it

    greets!!

  • Hey! d'you have the sheet music? or, do you know where I could find it?

  • Genesis MIDI files are available easily for free. All you need is a simple sequencing software like Cakewalk to read it.

  • very nice!

  • Great

    Dez Sanderson

  • I wish i can do this! It s perfect the way you play it ! Genesis forever in my hart.

  • Thanks very much!

  • what type of synth is this?

  • Yamaha Motif ES6

  • Yea! So nice, great playing :-)

  • super!!!!

  • cool

  • wh00t? ~32kviews? no comment? maggots! :)

nice job, keep on and post "the cage (full)" :)

  • wasnt you on the front row on the when in rome dvd in a blue stripped top? your avatrar looks alot like a dude on that dvd

  • Haha yeah that was me...

  • Dude I wish I could play like you! This is true art:)

  • Agreed, TB would be very proud of your work. This is a great solo and you handled it perfectly.

  • you the man!

  • I tried it for a long time could never do that real fast stuff nice work.. GREAT work.

  • Bravo!

  • Good Job Dude!

  • Wow!!! Tony Banks would be proud! Nice job!

  • Perfection thy name is Kyle

  • Brilliant

  • Nice job, dude. Reminded me of the excellent playing of capacitor76. Both you guys are gifted.

  • Where have you been all my life?

  • Wow. :O

  • bravo

  • Hey, man that's cool as hell! Nice job!!

  • Holy Crap, Kyle, that's awesome!!

  • Just one word: WOW

Dude, are yu sure you're name isn't tony Banks??

  • Total pleasure watching and listening.

  • Man U are so brillant! great job!

  • hey what keyboard u use

  • Yamaha Motif ES6 here. =)

  • I have an ES7. These are great keyboards!

  • Which preset did you use? I would like to find something similar in my Yamaha MO8

  • DUDE THAT WAS SICK!! I wish I could do that!

    how old are you?

  • this is amazing!!!!

  • GJ !

  • Excellent! Where's the second solo?

  • Great job, Kyle! I loved it!!!

  • Yep you've nailed it.

Bit of advice though - don't bother responding to negative comments like the one from Ottocento80 - it just makes you look bad. 99% people think its great so leave it at that.

  • very good bravo!! ;)

  • Imagine having this has your ringtone

  • beautiful! Now add the left hand organ chords ;-)

  • Excellent job! I'm a HUGE Genesis fan, as old as your father apparently; well, almost. Great to hear a solid, at-speed version!

  • good stuff' impressive!

  • Haha, I don't see how it can be too fast when all I'm doing is playing along to Three Sides Live ;-). If it's so terrible, maybe you could post a video of you playing it, and we can compare? ;-)

  • Don't talk shit when I doubt you could play it at all....kylehudson00 did a very respectable job of it.

  • im speechless

    absolutely amazing

  • One note is wrong at 0:59.

  • Finger slip. ;-)

  • do it again !

  • Sei molto bravo, grazie

  • Wow you nailed that one - no I'm gonna have to put my version up there (drums)

  • any way you could post or reveal how to find this sheet music?

  • Very good !!! but....but...where is your left hand with organ ?

  • I'd only bother to learn the left-hand part if I was actually going to play the song with a band - I don't have any problems with left/right hand coordination. I mainly learn Tony's solos to improve my lead ability. =)

  • So you don't like this song, but you like it? Ok. Genesis Rocks!!!!!!!!

  • Why!? They great! Ya probably like Madonna, N''Stynk, and all the other pop drunk

  • its ok if u dont like them :P. its pretty daring to say here though. I have fallen in love with their sound.

    btw he's maybe a yes-fan :D

  • Great... so fast! perfect!

  • Awesome! Right on the money.

  • What patch are you using?

  • It's an emulation of an Arp Quadra lead sound from a vintage keys library I use. =)

  • Nice Job - I recognize this is the 3 Sides Live recording, you should play the rest of the solo, especially the Cinema Show transitions!

  • Thanks! I'm definitely keen to learn the rest of this when I have some time up my sleeve. That TSL medley rocks!

  • At the risk of sounding like I'm advertising myself, check out my effort (jumb0j0ck), or look for a guy called Capacitor76 who does a lot of the difficult stuff. God I wish we could all meet up for one afternoon just to swap what we'd all learnt. All the best!

  • Great job! I could play ONE of those notes, but probly not at the right time LOL

  • That's just brilliant. Really difficult part to play, evem Tony "fluffs it" many times when playing live. Well done, you have a lot of talent my friend.

  • That's awesome, man.

It sounds just like Tony. Good job, my friend.

  • oooh wow that is really good!! I'm trying to learn that solo atm as well! I can't play that fast yet tho lol.. thanks for the comment btw! :D

  • Kyle, did you learn this from sheet music? Just wondering because the sheets I have from the Genesis Anthology book show the solo being played in E. It looks as if you're playing it in Eb, however. Listening to the way Tony plays it, I think he's playing it in Eb as well.

  • Yes, I believe someone mentioned the same thing in an earlier comment...there is obviously a version going around that's in E. It's definitely played in Eb though. Message me your email address and I'll send you a copy of my transciption...I need to send it to a few other ppl too! Sorry guys, have been really busy.

  • i learned this from listening to the cd, and, unless the cd is pitch shifted in any way, the solo is definately in e flat.

  • Nice one..definitely true to the original.

  • Awesome! That's such a great solo.

  • Except for the finger-trip at :59, VERY, VERY good.

  • Very good! Yes, except for the finger-trip. Genesis fans can be somewhat perfectionist-- don't take it personally!

  • What's to take personally, I did say VERY, VERY good.

  • On the 3 sides live version of this solo, Banks throws a note as well. Nobody is perfect.

  • Very well!!!

  • That sounded great! It was like an upbeat mix between Eno and King Crimson. =) I'll have to go listen to some Genesis music now, I had not heard of them before. Great vid ;)

  • What the fuck? You know who King Crimson and Brian Eno are but you have never heard of Genesis?

  • I'm working on it, hehe ;) My musical knowledge is hopelessly scattered

  • sick..any live version by BANKS will have a "finger trip" as well... this however does not compare with KC

  • You reckon? I love KC too, but their music has never grabbed me as much as Genesis does. Each to their own I guess! =) heh heh

  • Hey nice job! I want to learn this one! :) I'd also love to hear the solo to "Down and Out" off of And Then There Were Three...anyone know if it's on youtube?

  • nice!

  • It's a great solo, well done!

  • WELL DONE

  • Great - respect!

  • fantastic....

  • Really cool, fantastic piece of playing.. hope you were also playing the organ chord accompaniment at the same time... well Banks does !! LOL !

Great job anyway, I'm well impressed.!

  • wow... incredible...

I'm a drummer, very big fan of genesis

  • fantastic! i play keyboard, too and if i played so well, i would be proud!

  • The sheet music I have has this in E, but you appear to be playing it in Eb, and obviously with the music... Eb correct then?

  • Hmm...I think your music is probably wrong then. I'm playing along to the Three Sides Live version here, maybe the studio version is a semitone higher? But I don't think so. I'm happy to send you the transcription I have if you like. Viva los Genesis!

  • I am inclined to agree, sounds better a half step lower. Could you send the transcroption? Thanks in advance. Nice to see youtube isn't all flamers and spammers. :-)

  • Hey man! Thats great! But you know its kinda fast I think...speed isn´t everything, but eventhough I really think it was so great even Banks himself would envy you.

  • Banks played it at that speed though!

  • Good job man!!!

  • I have the sheet music for this solo and I just started working on it yesterday. It's actually not as frustrating as I thought it would be. Very nicely played here, great job my friend!

  • One of the finest Banks solo, well played man :-)

  • dude- that was pretty damn good!!!

  • Pretty cool! One of my favorite solos by Tony!

  • Nice job!

  • Lol, we've seen u play HEAPPPPPPPPPPSSSSSS faster. coz u love us. Well yeh u do.

  • Spot On!

  • nice job. I'm trying to learn this solo, now I can use this vid for help. thanks =)

  • Hehe, just don't follow it *too* closely - I did hit a couple of bum notes. I have a completely accurate transcription - send me a message if you'd like me to email you a copy. Cheers!
