I wish I had a camera to film it though. Even then however, my keyboard is just a normal keyboard (Yamaha PSR-E323), not a synthesizer, so I don't even have this sound. I am so jealous of all the people who can play it with an actual synth, because the closest I can get to it is combining a voice called "Analogue" with a voice called "SynthLead", and because there's no aftertouch, it doesn't sound as good :(
@kylehudson00 No sorry, I haven't got a camera for it. I would love to film it, but I can play it, trust me. I used this video, along with painist007's video for assistance. You just alternate between two different keys in the first half while your thumb does the rest, and then the second half is easy because it's not fast.
I swear when I first saw you play I thought "Shit, I'll never do this..." A few months later, I can play this pretty well (not nearly as well as you though)
Thank you.You kick ass.Can you tell me what notes you play? Are their keyboards I can buy that can let me play this song without knowing how to play the piano?Sorta like a guitars Tabs deal. Tony Banks was awesome. This solo is awesome, love it"raindrops keep falling on my head". I'd like to hear you play "eleventh earl of mars"
Three years laye but...great performance Kyle, perfect playing of the two quadruplets in a row at around 10 sec. of the synth solo, perfect duplication of Tony's way in both playing accent and phrasing especially considering the special semi-tone use which Tony always had on all his most important solos and/or chord sequences. Just a question. Did you play on TSL album or video version of ITC? Tony's synth solo on album runs 49.9, while video (the fastest ever) 49.3, while yours is 48.5 so...
Ho. Ly. Crap. The only person that could get anywhere NEAR playing it this well is my brother, and he can't even play it WITH the song. Kudos to you, my friend.
just doing this piece for an audition in manchester for a pop music course, and i've gotta say, don't ever underestimate Tony banks. I mean, at face value this solo seems pretty easy because it's not exactly impossibly fast, but the figurations are tough. I mean, it's not Rachmaninoff or Lizst, but for a prog song it's quite a challenge.
@omegablake "face-melting syth solo"?? I love it!!!!!!!!! Perfect description of my face when I used to try and learn this by ear back in the 80's. No bloody way.
Bit of advice though - don't bother responding to negative comments like the one from Ottocento80 - it just makes you look bad. 99% people think its great so leave it at that.
Haha, I don't see how it can be too fast when all I'm doing is playing along to Three Sides Live ;-). If it's so terrible, maybe you could post a video of you playing it, and we can compare? ;-)
I'd only bother to learn the left-hand part if I was actually going to play the song with a band - I don't have any problems with left/right hand coordination. I mainly learn Tony's solos to improve my lead ability. =)
At the risk of sounding like I'm advertising myself, check out my effort (jumb0j0ck), or look for a guy called Capacitor76 who does a lot of the difficult stuff. God I wish we could all meet up for one afternoon just to swap what we'd all learnt. All the best!
That's just brilliant. Really difficult part to play, evem Tony "fluffs it" many times when playing live. Well done, you have a lot of talent my friend.
Kyle, did you learn this from sheet music? Just wondering because the sheets I have from the Genesis Anthology book show the solo being played in E. It looks as if you're playing it in Eb, however. Listening to the way Tony plays it, I think he's playing it in Eb as well.
Yes, I believe someone mentioned the same thing in an earlier comment...there is obviously a version going around that's in E. It's definitely played in Eb though. Message me your email address and I'll send you a copy of my transciption...I need to send it to a few other ppl too! Sorry guys, have been really busy.

I am inclined to agree, sounds better a half step lower. Could you send the transcroption? Thanks in advance. Nice to see youtube isn't all flamers and spammers. :-)
Hey man! Thats great! But you know its kinda fast I think...speed isn´t everything, but eventhough I really think it was so great even Banks himself would envy you.
