This plane isn't so ugly for me. With its much more usefull internal area than normal 747, this plane couldn't be slightly redesigned to have better aerodynamic and two floors as the Airbus A-380 and be used to transport passengers ?
It isn't the "old Air Force One"; the plane is a new 747 made especially to be flown to Taipei for modification to the LCF. See that white section? That's the section which will be removed for the new freight section.
the antonov...the beluga... well they don't look great but they got their own unique lookst... the A380... think its fairly cool lookin for a chunk of a plane... now the 747..i dun hav anythin against it... but the LCF..now seriously that's an ugly plane...!!! interesting though....
WHAT NOP! compare regular 747 and a300 which is bigger 747 is bigger! go on wikipedia and compare their length, height, wingspan, etc. the airbus beluga is on 2 engines come on COMMOM SENSE.
rutgersfan. That's not true. Both companies are responsible for many innovations. Airbus pioneered fly by wire airliners (A320), twin engine wide body (A300), carefree handling control law and dispersed production facilities linked by air - all of which are features of the 787.
It's simply not true to say Airbus copied Boeing or vice-versa. They build planes to compete with and improve upon their opponents design but this doesn't mean they're copying. Real copying would be industrial espionage.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
once again Boeing showing true unoriginality.Everyone knows that they wanted a freighter so guess what, lets do the same ting Airbus did. Boeing is So shitty. You show so much love to this plane when the Concept has been around for a while, smackdabbed in Airbus' bosom. Long Live Airbus.
A good idea is just that, a good idea. Not everyone can reinvent the wheel.
I suspect that both companies and wanted to modify there own airplanes because they could source there own replacement parts for them at cost.
If Boeing would have bought the Airbus A300-600ST they would have been at the mercy of Airbus and their suppliers for replacement parts and if you don't think Airbus wouldn't use that to there advantage you are naive.
williammarty92, are you sure you know what your talking about? You can apply full power on takeoff as is whats done is most cases where thrust derating is not needed. It also depends on te GTOW of teh aircraft but for takeoff 89% really isnt enough thrust.
As I already mentioned in a comment that has obviously already been deleted... I fly these in a simulator, where it is well possible, that the programmed GTOW is not very realistic.
The Engines will only tear out chunks of the runway when the engines are running at full throttle for over 20 seconds. A Boeing 747 that weighs 380 tons will not be able to take off with only 50-75%. Believe me, I fly 747s and you'll need at least 85% if not 89% =)
This 747 has been converted to this shape to carry other sections of a boeing aircraft. It is not supposed to be that colour or shape, it is just a carrier.
The funny thing is, it is still prettier than the airbus fleet!
!!!Magnifique!! Boeing will repaint the dreamlifter 747 aircraft. There is another one with paint already, and that one is the one that transports the parts of the 787. They will repaint this plane, so they won't look tacky.
Yes, took no time to get off the ground , but needed a far bit to stop. It may look a bit freaky, but as long as it's good for it's job, you cannot go wrong.
you guys know its "ugly" cuz of they didnt repaint the fuselage yet.... if it was painted... and if its engine was replaced,it would be the best freight in the workd! aircraft
They aren't going to repaint it. They have one of these at Boeing Field here in Seattle all the time, I saw one taking off last week in fact. Think of how much weight it would add to a plane that size if they did paint it. By not painting it they can increase the carrying capacity over a painted version.
whtas happend to the airbus a380? O I know, its been delayed! Production, due to start at the end of 2006, the first wont be delivered until 2009. Even though im british and where the wings are made for the a380 is just up the road from me. the 747 will always be king of the skies.

That airplane will not carry pasengers it was only build to carry the big parts of the future boeing 787 This airplane will not solve the needs or demand of airlines but it does fit on the needs of Boeing itself as a transporter. Remember because its big and powerful does not mean it will reduce the expenses. Boeing will not make the same mistake as Airbus with the A380.
nope, Boeing's answer is economy, including the 787 and 747-8, they beat them in running cost, this LCF is Boeing's private transport for large parts of the 787
What a beauty. I live in south of Seattle and drive by the boeing feild in southern Seattle every morning. And I get to see this big 47 every morning. It's amazing that it can fly in this configuration. I saw a regular 747-400 nearby, this big green 'olive' looked almost twice as big.
