You have to realize that if you properly invest your money in a mutual fund 10% is easy to get. Of course in the last few months things have dropped out. That also raises the question "if the market and dollar drops out then how the hell is the government supposed to keep it from losing value?" roads come from a tax on gasoline within the state. Police is local and fire protection as well. The military would have to end its empire around the world which runs us at around 1 trillion dollars. Public schools are paid by in state taxes as well.  Medicare and social security will be bankrupt by 2040 and if we take that into account at the moment our national debt is over 40 trillion because of what we promised. We can do without a federal income tax.
