Hi Mark great Video i was wondering if you could send me a step by step guide on how you accomplished this. I have a ux380 and would love to be able to run OSX
So how are you building these machines? I've been hearing all the bad thigns about EFIX lately, and am wondering if you did a home-brew EFIX to make these work w/ software update and work so well. Let me know because I'm dying to get rid of my old PowerMacG5! It's pretty much got all it can get now2x1tb drives, 12gig RAM, but it's still not an Intel machine. Now I wanna build a couple. Thanx man, keep up the great projects!
Its nice to see my Vaio UX featured in the new Terminator Salvation movie, its a shame John Connor didnt have OSX on his though lol. Maybe then he would have beaten the machines.
Hi Mark, Will you be publishing instructions for setting this up? I have been struggling to get leopard installed on my ux1xn and would very much like to get it to the level that you have achieved. Thanks. g.
Dang, i just managed to get a 10.5.5 install finished yesterday including the touchbase driver, full qe ci, audio - basically the same as your but 2 revisions earlier... Which osx86 distro did you start with if you dont mind me asking?
try looking for the graphics kexts, keep all of your modified kext files on your desktop. Do the combo 10.5.7 update then do not restart. use kext helper to reinstall your modified kext files before restarting. Good luck
Damn good idea, i tried the combo update before and baked it. Left with a dead ux. Yet another install got it going. Are there any major benefits to having 10.5.7 over 10.5.5? Just want to make sure its worth it rather than risking another lost few hours... Im sure you've been there all too many times to get where you are now. Persistence is more than required.
It's brilliant that you can actually do this, but I'm affraid strictly hardware-wise, this little machine is not up to the task, one can clearly see the audio-video sync issues. With a stronger processor, this could be a nice alternative to a macbook.
get one now, you will no doubt be able to upgrade to 10.6 for the cost of the DVD £5 if you purchase a mac just before its released. Apple are good to customers :-)
I am in San Diego, California and have been a UNIX admin since 1985. I have been out work since July 2008. Anyone watching willing to give me an interview?
Hi Guys and girls, i just wanted to add, im really very shocked at the interest this video has had. The other video of my OSX HTPC IMHO is a far greater achievement but has had a mere fraction of the ammount of views. Take a look . Hope you like it. :-)
on a scalle from 1- 10 taht was definiatly a 10 i like how you ended it VERY FUNNY haha ... i didnt think i could luagh so much not only that but i luaghed so hard [=
thanks, cant take the full credit there, that bit was edited slightly to reduce the size of the video. But yes its no slouch anyway. Only knocked about 7 seconds off.
nice notebook, i have an MSI Wind as a play project, just fitted a touchscreen to it but its cracked so waiting for a replacement to arrive. Im sure you could probably shoehorn OSX onto the vaio P. Give it a shot.
The Vaio P has a gma500 built in gpu which is not mac compatible meaning you could not get a`video video driver for it... it can run without a diver but it wouldn't be great.
Its a personal choice really, operating systems are the single biggest source of discussion in the computer industry with people on all sides of the fence having an opinion. I simply prefer Mac OSX but im sure both windows and linux have their fans.
I have been running the Gigabyte M8912X with 10.5.7 pretty well. The only problem with the Gigabyte is the touch screen needs a pay-for driver. My main machine is an Asus F8S, which also runs great, except for the Bluetooth.
I cant endorse that, the guys at touch base have done a good job with the driver. Its worth paying for it. I have registered copies of OSX also. worth helping the little guy.
Hi mark, i have the same unit, but i haven't seen anyone get over the gma950 graphic problems,
do you have a link or information on how to do it. I ran 10.5.6 but i could only use external without problems. no sound either or touchscreen. if you dont mind helping me.
Total Thumbs Up! This is beautiful, thank you for sharing with us =)

I've put my UX in storage due to its 1GB RAM limit.
Has anyone offered a RAM upgrade to at least 2GB?
solobackpacking 1 year ago
to upgrade to 802.11N is it just a matter of plugging in a new module? And is there a particular type for this model or for any laptop will fit?

Very cool. Now if only you got the iPod Touch development kit, you could turn your UX into an iPod Touch :) Wish I could do that with my UX380CN
wysiwyg666 2 years ago
And that way waste all the hardware of the UX?
Manguitom 2 years ago
Imagine iTunes on that... It would be better than an iPod Touch...! I'm going to get myself one.

Wow thanks for this! do you if the ux1xn would be happy running osx? i guess they're pretty much the same.
where do u recommend getting a ux from in the uk? it seems quite hard : )

best place for a UX is Ebay
markperrin1 2 years ago
What version UX you have?

UX 380N with internal modification of SSD drive and 802.11N

How did you get the touchscreen calibrated? On my UX which is running 10.5.6 it is not working correctly.

there are no audio sync issues on the unit itself.

BTW great vid, I'm also thinking of putting OS X on my Sony UX, right now it's running windows 7 very nicely, which you watch on my page.
BSREA5 2 years ago
Im not a fan of windows in any iteration, ive tried windows 7 and as a mac user i would recommend OSX to anyone except the die hard gamer.

I'm planning on getting a mac this summer when OS 10.6 comes out.

markperrin1 2 years ago
the reason this has so many more views than your other videos is because this video is on umpcportal(dot)com and a lot of people go to that website.
BSREA5 2 years ago
Thanks for letting me know about it being hosted, i was wondering where else it was. :-)
markperrin1 2 years ago
no problem, they did to my vids a while back too.
Also wow in only 5 days you have over 9000 views!!
BSREA5 2 years ago
One last question, are these units still available somewhere?
adewolf 2 years ago
not brand new unless somoene has stock piled them.

oh and do dual cores work in mac and linux like if were to my ux with a u7700 whould i get the most out of it in linux or mac?

i have a question witch is lightest mac linux xp or 7 i mean like when it comes cpu usage memory usage and gpu usage?
suavelyphe 2 years ago
probably some flavour of linux. OSX is quite memory hungry but i find it works fine and just keeps getting better with every point update.

Hey Alex if your talking about the touch-base driver I have found a workaround to reset the click count on the 100-click demo.
I love my M912X if I could get mic/line in and webcam it would be perfect.
My Vaio UX280 still needs sleep, webcams, finger scanner, wwan and quick buttons.
dualvegality 2 years ago
Can you PM me with the details on the 100 click work around?
adewolf 2 years ago
I cant endorse that, the guys at touch base have done a good job with the driver. Its worth paying for it. I have registered copies of OSX also. worth helping the little guy.
markperrin1 2 years ago
Me too and I do agree.
adewolf 2 years ago
Dualvegality, do you mind me asking how you got round the 100 click limit? Thanks
sadguyfaebrechin 2 years ago
yeah of course i will tell you, i bought the driver software.
markperrin1 2 years ago
can you pls post the latest drivers you have? I'd be interested in buying a copy of the software to install in my UX...
