Nice song, really enjoyed it although your notes are very misleading for anyone who doesn't live in the U.K. Jock is another word for friend or Bud or Mate in Scotland, Caim is Gaelic for Cain from the Bible, this song is definately not rooted in Gaelic or Celtic music as for Sir Walter Scott, Poet and Author born in Edinburgh ( Auld Reekie ) was a bit of a Romantic who met Rabbie Burns, so he most probably lied a tad as they do! just a nice poem set to music! a rework of John O'Hazelgreen! :-)
