  • I have always seen those hair pins around but never understood how they would hold anything in place and surprised to see that they are holding your hair twist so well. I always use bobby pins or roller pins.

  • yeh loved this - i'm going out soon so I'll try this right now!

you could have folded the front higher - it still wd hv suited you!

You must do a video on 'keep fit' u look great - im sure youve got lots to tell us!

  • I love your videos!! Please do some for shorter hair. Mine reaches the bottom of my neck when I stretch it. =)

  • Do you take your protective styles down and redo each morning? Also are there any protective styles for a TWA?

  • @koricometh language please

  • thank you so much for your channel. the information you give us all is just phenomenal! Thank you for the professionalism and excellence you put into all of your videos, not to mention the fun.=D Congratulations on the baby!!

  • Do you blow dry your hair sometimes? If so what method do you use? If not then what do you do to dry and acheive some type of "straightness"?

  • I've been natural(no relaxers) for about 4 yrs now. I've been a little mean to my hair by putting too much heat on it i think resulting in very minimal hair growth. Now I'm trying to get on the right track and use protective styles to help retain my hair growth and protect my hair. But I have a question. Since it is winter and i dont have much time to do a wash and go. I was wondering if I use a blow dryer very lightly with minimal combing would this style that you did have the same effect.

  • You look like Regina King! (or she looks like you...) I have been watching your vids for 30 mins trying to pinpoint it, lol. Great style by the way (:

  • you're beautiful!

  • I love this video. My hair is past my shoulder in the back and on the sides. Needless to say, now that my hair is longer, I hate the idea of my ends brushing against my neck, clothing and shoulders. I'm trying to retain length so this style will come in VERY handy. Keep videos on protective styles for medium and long natural hair coming.....

  • I love this tutorial

  • nice , quick and easy.

  • i love your hair videos!!! Very informative :)

  • You made this video very pleasant to watch. Clear instructions and music to go with the 40's theme! Great Job!

  • Angel faced and blessed eyes.

  • I love you KimmayTube! I just tried it today & I love it! I was desperately looking for a cute protective style because i've grown weary of cornrows lol. Thank you again!

  • You should definitely have your own television show, JUST about hair haha. :) You're really creative and gawgeous :D

  • lovely

  • it's very nice and smart. Thanks

  • Too cute!!!

  • I love that style! I'm really liking your videos. You're showing me that natural can be very versitile. Naturals don't only have to do typical "curly" styles.

  • Love your channel!

  • nice classic elegant style and good tip about not brushing and using the stocking cap for 30 minutes

  • I love this style! it's so classic and beautiful.

  • Beautiful healthy hair!! Love It

  • HI KIM; where do you get your shea butter from?

  • I've been wearing my hair like this a lot lately. I don't have the time I use to, to do my small two strand twists, and I find that as my hair has grown, it tangles more. Now I only have an inch or two more in some places, but that has made a big difference in how my hair behaves. The little twists are fine once my hair doesn't get wet. Then they shrink and, well...you know how that goes. I notice that you don't do those tiny little twists. I don't think I've ever seen you do them.

  • Love this style so much :)

  • KimmayTube, Sweet Couture Love LOVES your channel! Check our channel for custom and exclusive pumps!! We have a pair with your name on it as a gift! Message me for details!

  • Love!

  • Thank you so much for making these videos.Do think getting a sew-in as a protective style is a good idea?

  • Love this. I agree with other comments below...can u post some for shorter hair...even if u use a model that would be great. Thanks for the inspiration and great info!

  • But it works for you because you already have that sorta 40s look

  • i am new 2 ur channel and u have sum of the best videos luv it!

  • thats a super cute style!!!

  • Luv the cardigun where did get it at??

  • Thank you for all of your videos and helpful tips.

  • Love the music :o) and beautiful hair!

  • I love it!! Thanks for sharing!! When my hair gets a little longer, I'll definitely rock this!!

  • i found u on andreaschoice. im so glad i found u. how did i not know about u b fore?

  • @VeronicasPlace what video did andrea mention her?

  • Thank you so much. I work in the corporate world and styling my hair is my problem. I love this

  • LOL, I use that same aloe gel on my face everyday. I mix it w/my facial moisturizer.

  • AWESOMENESSS!!!! Love your videos!! I have waist length locs, but 2 of my 3 daughters have loose natural hair and I will be referring to your channel for instruction. Also, I know that if and when I choose to go back to being a loose hair natural chica (have had my locs for 16 years now), I know where to get a plethora of ideas and knowledge. THANKS !!!!!

  • This is like my fav style to wear! I cant wait til it grows so i can rock it like u! haha

  • This is my favorite hair style of all times.

  • that style is sooo hot I love it thank you so much for doing this video...as i continue with my natural journey and also going into my last year of college i want to be sure that i can have professional styles for my new natural look

  • i was wondering if you could tell us pleasepleasepleaseee what you did in the first few years of being natural to minimize breakage??? my hair strands are super curly and it seems like my ends are breaking like crazy!!! i keep it moisturized and i cover it at night, but it seems like the ends just continue to break... maybe its because i'm just rocking a fro instead of braiding it down or twisting it every week? HELP hairguru!!!!!

  • you dont use combs or brushes at all? interesting......

  • love it

  • Like Babeparadise asked down below, may we please, please have a video of a similar or other protective style for short hair? Maybe use a model to illustrate? I cut my hair off out of frustration a few months ago while I worked on my dissertation (I've only just discovered u tonite, if only I'd discovered u then! SIGH), but now have a pixie Nia Long style that's too short to hold in a hair band. It would be SO helpful to have a protective style for going to the office while I grow it back...

  • Is it just me or did this style take FOREVER to try to recreate? When I got to the part where I needed to add the hairpins, I couldn't get them to hold the twist in place and the video doesn't help in showing how to add pins to hold the hair. In the time it took me to try to figure this out, I could have done 2 strand twists on my really thick 4c hair.

  • you may be my savior...I will let you know in 6 months. lol. I found you because I needed a protective style and my twist outs seemed like they may be too much for once a week and you are doing exactly what my goal is...growing healthy long natural hair. I am only 8 maybe 9 months in and I want to cut it next year (I'm transitioning) I do not want short hair ( my preference) so I needed to figure something out and here you are! The hair was cute and I want to thank you!

  • I agree with others. I love this style but sadly my hair is too short. I have the goody flex Barrett but there is only a really short stub left at the end. For now that is :0) well guess I'll figure out something on my own.

  • Hi Kim - What brand of Aloe Vera Gel do you use? Do you use 100% Pure Aloe Vera Gel? Thank you.

  • Thank you for putting this up. I really love how you are able to come up with natural styles that look so professional. : )

  • I'm glad I stumbled across this again, I needed a cute style to go swing dancing in this weekend. yay for hair being longer now so that I can pull this off!

  • Very professional hairstyle and videos, thx!

  • that was a lovely style :) Im going to use that one :)

    ~peace

  • Your videos are great. Can you suggest some protective styles for short hair? Is weaving an otion?

  • I LOVE IT!!!!!!

  • Looks professional

  • Thanks for that close up on how to put in the bobby pins. I never seem to get them in right... they always pop out. I'going to try it the way you did it. :-)

  • nice....but no brush? sigh...

  • Another request... goody spray bottles :) I know, I know... It's looks like I'm trippin but I not all that happy with the beauty supply stores in my area.

  • I am going to try this.. But my hair is WAY shorter then yours. Do you think it will still work?? I hope so. Once I do it I will take pics and email them to u.

  • I was looking at your wash and go video and now I see your hair in this clip...how did you get such growth so quick.:-O I know it didnt happen over night.lol. But what products did you use to get the growth?

  • @Toia415 Products do not cause growth. Your hair is growing all the time. Moisture, protein and protective styling help you retain the hair you grow. Plus, probably in her wash and go vid you were seeing her slightly shrunken hair.

  • If that medium/normal density; I must be close to bald!!! That's extra thick to me! Beautiful!

  • you're so pretty! you remind me of my mom! =)

  • how cute is this style!!!! bravo. thx for helping me look at protective styles differently. i can't wait to try this (or a version of it b/c i don't have your length yet) :)

  • If all my fingers were thumbs youd get ten thumbs up! Keep up the beautiful job, you are truly inspirational!

  • @Efiasoulful lol cute saying :)

  • This style is so cool, especially with a string of pearls.

  • lurvly! :)

  • Hi Kim Lovely style! I will be trying it once I remove my current two strand twists. I think I have heard once in one of your vids that you are not a trimmer. What do you feel would be a a good rule of thumb when it comes to trimming HEALTHY natural hair?

    Thanks!

  • Gorgeous!!!

  • I really like this!!! Thanks for the tutorial. Yeah I have been doing protective style a lot of pin up styles as I work in a corporate office. I realize the bobby pins I have been using rust , especially when I use my water spritz to refresh and moisturize my hair style in the morning and cause my hair to tangle more if I remove them improperly, when the style has been worn for several days. I will look into getting the ones used here! thanks!!

  • Ok I absolutely loved this style!! I'm definately going to try this out soon, thanks for sharing :)

  • Nice style! I really like the flex barette! Thanks for such an informative video! I will definitely try this.

  • Very simple yet elegant thank you!

  • Hold on! What's the difference between the "bobby pins" and "hair pins?!" Love the protective style. Thanks for the new ideas.

  • Awwww she is so cute!

  • This is so classic and beautiful. Ive been scouting for neat professional styles for job interviews. You rock so much for this one! :) Absolutely love your videos.

  • chick there is only one word to describe you....FANTASTIC! whatelse is there left to say,you always leave us speechless and wanting more of your insight and your FANTASTIC styles...Blessings and much Luv

    MsJS

  • beautiful as always I have learned so much and another way to fix my natural hair thank you so much!!!!

  • Kimmay, my sister and I have learned so much from your videos. They're excellent tutorials. Your progress has been amazing and your hair is off the chain! GOD Bless You

  • This is AWESOME :) wow :) Soooo loving it!!! Saving this one to the faves ;) THANK YOU for this idea!!!

  • looks great, kimmay! and it's ALL YOURS!

  • Your hair is so long. My hair is bra strap length and I'm natural but I'm jealous of yours but hopefully it can look long like yours.

  • Once Again....thanks for the protective styles knowledge. I have a question: What is Density (for hair). Thanks in advance,

  • when my hair is long enough i will try this.thanks

  • Love it!

  • Really enjoyed this video especially what you said about a style being truly protective the ends need to be protected or covered (forget the exact quote). Giving me a lot to consider because although I've been natural for about 15 years I still use a lot of heat because I really hate my loose curls ugh so I'm trying to break that habit and looking for ways to define my curls.

  • Love that style. Beautiful beautiful.

  • Nice :D

  • I have been wearing a similar style this summer using Goody hair combs. Great tutorial.

  • I love this hairstyle! Its definitely charming. Of course my hair is too short right now lol. Great video!!

  • Your hair is very pretty and it's growing fast!

  • I luv this hair style but my hair is to short to achieve this look.

  • I love this hairstyle OMG! wonderful! I have relaxed hair but I will try this style . I where protective style during the week days and this 1940's hair will be way better then just bunning everyday. Thanks for the information.

  • I'm a newbie! I recently purchased a couple of items (3977). I'm a long time viewer of your channel and LOVE all of your videos! I had to write a review and thank you for your prompt customer service and the personalized note was a nice suprise and very throughtful! I will be ordering again! ;)

Can you please do a video showing how you use knot today as a detangler in your routine and more protective hair style videos? My length is not quite as long as yours (a little past shoulder length).

  • Sweets you are a Nubian Princess

  • this is absolutely fabulous!!! I love the 40s n u definately are rocking the hair and outfit RIGHT!

  • I luv ur vids. So put together, well organized, and thought out. Very informative.

  • I love love love LOVE your vids! They are so imformative. This hairstyle is super cute and perfect for my line of work!! I will be rocking this style as soon as I am fully natural. Currently I'm at the beginning of being 8 months post relaxed and can only put my hair into a bun. It's getting harder and harder to manage my hair each month during this transition stage. Anywho, keep up the good work!!

  • I have watched this video like 10 times lol I luv it!!!

  • Thanks for the tutorial! After I finished watching I exclaimed, 'I love natural hair' lol

  • Love this style. It's my go to "outing" style. Can do it with my twists in or out.

  • I love this style.., it came out great when I tried it!!!! Thanx

  • I normally wear my hair in mini twists--would this style work with it?

  • i absolutely love your channel!!! i stumbled upon it in my search for info about natural hair. • Loved it! Love your commentary.....already subscribed. Ok, let me go check out your other videos...:0)

  • Thanks for all you do. You are a lifesaver. My hair seems to be the same texture as yours just not as long yet. i am working on 8 months now and i love it. I love this style!

  • wow. i'm in the military and got PLENTY of compliments from co-workers and people on base seeing me with this hairstyle in my dress uniform. I was shocked. I did not expect it but THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. I was the belle of the ball ;)

  • @b4chuck

yea i like this style, i am in the navy and the harsh environment that I am in, which requires me to be out pting every day and working in my hot shop, this style is perfect and some of the other protective styles

  • once you start your own hair care line.. gggiiiiirrrrlllllll its gonna take off like nobody's business :0))

    Looking forward to it!

  • There seems to be a web-wide shortage of the large barette...what can you do with the small ones? Has anyone found the large ones anywhere lately??

    :)

  • Jazmyn says your hair looks "very nice" ; )

  • Hi Kimmay, I reallylove this idea of protective styling, however it seems to a little more challenging when there's only 4inches of hair to work with. Can you recommend protective styles for shorter hair?

  • Can I get the link to protective style #1?

  • So easy and so pretty!

  • I have a great look to go with this hairstyle on my channel -- I'll post it as a vid response. I absolutely LOVE your hair!!!

  • WOW, I done this style before I did not know it was from the 1940s.

    Thanks Kimmay

  • That was AWESOME

  • nice but my hair isn't long enough to try it.

  • Too cute. I'll have to wait a while until mine grows out, but it is very classy.

  • very beautiful hairstyle!

  • Oh wow this is wonderful..I absolutely can't wait until the book comes...Hope you'll be doing a book tour.....

  • beautifullll!!!:D

  • Hey, i love your videos,

I just want to get your opinion on a few things please...

    1. do u think its ok to use more than one deep conditioner(dc) at one time (i mean mixing two dc's together)

    2. do u think that u can use a leave in conditioner as a moisturizer and vice versa

    3. i notice that u said that temperature plays a key part in raising the cuticles of the hair, do u think then that its better to wash your hair in warm -hot water so that your dc can have better results?

  • You are wonderful. I am inspired by u. Thank you for all your hard work that you put into these videos. I do not blame you regarding not making anymore video. I would definitely buy your DVD's, so hurry up and start selling them already.lol.

  • SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO FREAKIN PRETTY! ive posted this on like 2 videos lol but you are jus so pretty!

  • Yay!! Love it, I'll be trying this on Monday ;-). Thanks Kimmaytube! God bless you girl!

  • Very cute, I wish my hair was long enough to wear that style

  • Loved the video. Cute style. I can't wait for my hair to grow out so I can experiment with different styles

  • Very nice as usual. I have an interview coming up that I may use this for. Love the DVD idea. Put me down for one!

  • What a great style. Very original.

  • wow that was amazing i have natural hair and i always wear it in a boring bun but this was great i will def try this thanks for posting a great video !

  • @Kimmaytube: you can use a thine net on the bun. Make the hair look more neat.

    God bless you

  • your hair has gotten soo long! and your vids are dummy friendly lol.

  • kim, I love this look, I'll try it with my twists. Thanks for this and all of your other lovely vids.

  • I really enjoy your videos I have just started my hair journey & it has really helped a great deal. I live in the UK & its quite hard to find natural hair care info & products. I'm now having to buy online my husband suggested I ask (the most original and informative) if you would be doing some sort of magazine (online/pdf for sale of course) with hair styles, accessories and products I can use throughout the year. Dvd's would be a different region & I dont have a converter. Thanks Dina, UK

  • I wanted to know if you have found another version of aloe vera gel that works well. the brand you used I tried but I read the back and saw all the other ingredients in it- I recently bought some for vitamin shoppe but its the pure kind so its 'liquidy' - like a bit less viscous than castor oil- so it doesn't really give hold like a gel per say- its more like a slightly thick liquid- maybe syrup.

  • Man, you are the best, I watch your videos everyday and I just get excited all over again about being natural. Keep doing what you are doing and God Bless you!!!

  • Love this Look!! Thank you for posting. Now if I could put this baby down & try it on my own hair. I appreciate seeing how this style has evolved with the growth of your hair, from your first video til now

  • Nice use of the green screen! I've been waiting to see what you were going to do! Very cute style. LOVE IT!

  • How do you find out about your video honors so you can post them? I want to do the same! Thanks!

  • Very pretty :-)

  • This is a gorgeous style!!!!!!! What style was your hair in before you did this new style and did you have any particular product on it besides the shea butter?

  • Hey Kim. I love the look! Summyr1988 has a video of a protective style that I think you would like....the name of the video is Protective Style #3

  • Kimmay, I <3 this style. It's def. one of my favorites! It's very cute, classy, and quick! I'm sure you'll reach your hair goal in no time! Take care!

  • As always, thanks for the great video! Also, thanks for reiterating your position on henna. Yeah, if I had only 10-20 gray hairs, I wouldn't color my hair either. Unfortunately, I'm about about 35% gray and only 35, so I need to do something about it. I guess all I can do is test the pH and hope for the best!

  • This is really cute: thanks!

  • cute

  • Hi!

I LOVE your vids.. I was wondering if you would ever use flaxseed gel?

  • great video!
