This vehicle is now preserved, there are a few Leyland engined VR's preserved, 4 that I know of, BEP967V, NEH731W and a P reg one I think. probably more.
Oh yes so there is! I know who's channel it is on too, can't believe I missed that one out! If your near Crewe tomorrow NEH731W should be out at the Crewe running day, thats Leyland powered!
Nope! the 500 series engine was basicaly a disaster, the national would have sold in millions had it had a Gardner 6HLXB from the outset. When fitted in lorries its failure rate was even higher!
never even knew they fitted 500 series to VRs, learn summat new etc etc.

This is great! Is the vehicle still in service...if not, are any/many Leyland 500-engined VRs preserved?

I also have a ride on this bus on youtube, you should be able to find it, search the registration plate.

Thanks. That's good about it being preserved. There's also a video of RMA435V on YouTube, in apparently preserved condition that I've just found.
I'd love a ride on a 500-engined VR someday, only ever having been on the Gardner-powered ones!

I drove Leyland engined VRs on Hants and Dorset and they always took a long tome to change gear;they made an exciting sound though and I loved them.

I wouldn't say useless, these Leyland engined ones show a good turn of speed. Still prefer Gardner though

Nope! that engine is the OHC Leyland 500 series, and a pretty useless engine too

nice to hear a vr with a different engine! is this the same engine as they use in the leopards?

The altogether more acceptable O.680 engine was fitted in Leopards (and Atlanteans).
