Hello, I enjoyed watching your video. I am also a welder but, it's different type of welding. We're using quartz glass and we're also dark glasses or dark helmets.
we used glass rods for welding using our two to three fingers to run the rods.
this type of materrals or parts are using in the silcon valley. I have a 20 plus working experinces. Do you think i can adopt my skill to this type of skill?
Some great info on heat distortion. Techniques make all the difference in controlling it but it's not easy to find this info. I've had to learn from trial and error. Still learning.
could you discuss multi pass welding and whats the best welder for weldng space frames using 0.120 chrome molly or mild steel.it for my race car/weekend fun car.
I just bought a chicago mig flux core 90amp that says it can weld 3/8 on a single pass
thanks in advance
what a way to test for weld strength I will need in a space frame on chrome molly/mild steel 0.120 tube.its for my tube chassis in my race car/super luxury car.
hahah im also a fabricator and before im doing same style but surely my darling you did'n have the 90deg. after you weld.. the best for that u connect the 2 end of your parents metal to maintain tha 90deg..
Why the hell do you have to put so many tacks before you weld? I can have the same results with only 1 tack on three of the corners and then weld it out.
Offshore welders earn $2,775.00 per 84 hr. work week. If you would like to weld offshore, or work on some other job offshore, send me your email address.
yup, I thought he shit his pants !! I cannot imagine anyone making such a huge production of a very well known facts of thermal expansion. Anytime some has a gas leak large enough to smell there stands to be a place where the gas will collect up to and past the LEL
AS a Canadian fabricator I enjoy your videos and agree this is a dying trade. It's sad that today's society would rather buy half a dozen "CHEAP" products mass produced by a computers or children in China than one GOOD product made right here in North America by skilled tradesmen who's pride an attention to detail render a product that not only works well but will last a long time and is usually cheaper in the long run.
@broodyfour As a young American fabricator I have found out employers don't care about quality but rather if you can work lots of overtime, put out tons of work, and don't complain about the pay or benefits. Then they lay you off and you can't find a job because nobody wants to hire a 22 yr old "kid" straight out of welding college. So much for our future gen welders eh?
@gilgammesh1 Oh I perfect;y agree I am a Canadian welder/fitter/fabricator and I buy Canadain made where I can cause the quallity is top notch BUT so is American so I by almost always North American reson for not using Brittish is same quality ie very good in fact, but not really better( or worse) and extreamly expensive. What I ment was fabricators are a dying breed and cheap unshkilled labour makeing DISPOSIBLE products is taking over!!!
new episode please!!! i just discovered this and i really like this and all these idiots should shut up and appreciate that someone experienced shares his knowledge through a publich medium such as youtube!
plus he does it in a funny and super interesting way, keep it up man!
good info, I never really thought about it much, just did trial and error adjustments - spot welding the corners first to hold it a little outta square and let the heat pull it in square when fillng the gaps between spots.
It was not a pattern at all - just a steady straight line motion. If you look at the fit-up closely, you may notice the 1/16" (approx)gap between the 2 work pieces. The reason for this is the arc "disk" makes full and constant contact with both pieces simultaneously, thereby creating full fusion, instead of laying it on like a caulk. That is why "gap" welds are the strongest.
mig welding is easy n hes making it sound like rocket science n how many tacs do ya wnt 1 in each corner wud do mate n if u tac it in each corner wen its square it wnt move wen u weld anyway possible apart from ur tacs sounded lik dey wudnt ment da hairs of ma sack
My thought exactly. I am surprised you could even understand what he said. I had to read it over 4 or 5 times myself.
I would like to see his overhead MIG with a V joint and no backer. He probably couldn't even penetrate. I know tha position took me a while to figure out good without any cracks on my bend test.Mind you when I took my CWB(Canadian Welding bureau)test for all potion, I failed flat my first go, I did however pass every other position.
haha everyone does that i take it you have done a tiny bit of that welding know you think your an expert haha im acrually verg good at overhead and vertical up aswell what is something i would love to see you do but you will just say you can beceuse you wont have to prove but i bet you suck really
Alot of people fail the flat position or horizontal. I have not failed one yet (knock on wood). Its usually cause by not cleaning each weld (usually for flat) or lack of fusion (usually horizontal). Overhead MIG--V groove with no backer is very easy, just need to watch it from peaking up on you when you cap.
Holy shit MIG welding looks so easy. back when I had my shop in Venezuela I welded everything with stick welding, I made doors, windows, rails, etc. but everything was done with stick welding. I even worked in a shop where all they did was fix refrigerators, the test they had was to weld two pieces of 5mm thick sheet metal together, it was easy. I see that here in the US with this MIG thing it's much easier to weld. I so want to go back to welding.
Hi Amfabricator! can you make a design of a small vessel that could float and withstand impact---something of a survivor vessel for the coming polar shift on 21 december 2012 ? not farfetched huh?
Overall good video mate, nice and interesting but as here in Essex, England, fabricating is becoming very hard to get into. I'm studying Mechanical Engineering and would love our University to at least go into these kinda topics at least a little, if not a lot.
If you are going for a TV show, don';t hold your breath...basically pretty boring. Awesome bead on the welding, and decently informative, but not very exciting for the masses. As a guy who has worked in powder coat before, I found that interesting, although I suspect few would. I will say this...the residue on the powder coat furnace walls caught fire at least four times in the last five years and required the fire department...powder coat process is definitely a fire hazard from my experience.
i have no clue what half way shop you worked in but there is no REAL fire hazards involved with powder coating unless your doing something terribly wrong or plain dont know what your doing.... just my honest opinion.
"mr. dump" my comment was not directed at the uploader. it was directed at the person commenting saying powder coating shops are a fire hazard and always catch fire. i myself having managed a powder coating shop know that unless you dont know what you are doing the risk of fire is very low. i never said a thing about "americanfabricator" or his actions in this video. do your homework before you run your mouth. stop hating on others (via your key pad)
Actually, the shop in this video is required by city ordinance to have an automatic halon fire extinguishing system. Some hybrid powders are actually quite combustible when atomized. If the air filters get too dirty, powder will build up in the air.
like i said doing something terribly wrong. leaking gas? yes its a fire hazard just like the gas to my stove, water heater, and central heat, but no one runs around yelling about the danders of your home because it is plumbed with gas.. and if you didnt read my comment the first time? go back and you'll see i was not mentioning anything in this video. it was a response to another persons comment that you have since removed.
i've just seen all your vids, they keep improving... good ideas, good change of camera angle, good editing... the one i liked the most it's this one, episode 7, not only you did a better video, but we could see a "how to: welding", you're a fabricator.. and that's what i hoped to see, work in progress, but with the first 6 episodes i was able to know "the guy", and enjoy all the consecuent videos.. congrats Fabricator....
I just noticed your invite in my inbox tonight. I haven't any idea how long its been there, But I wish I had found you sooner. It is great to see a guy who does work like this and who does a show, who is not incredibly full of himself, I watched all of your shows tonight and am looking forward to more. I have been in and out of fab shops for the last 20 years(I'm 56 now) and it seems the only guys who are making it are folks like yourself who are self employed and NOT self absorbed. Love it!!!
Also, may I suggest a welding helmet for your camera? It seems like the light would wear it out awful fast otherwise, not to mention if some slag were to fly and hit just the wrong spot. Plus, it might make it easier for us to see while you're welding. Anyway, keep up the video-making!
This is the second video that I've seen of yours. It's both informative and entertaining. I'm hoping that you'll make a new video soon to give more details about the projest you're working on that's described on your channel page. I've done a Google search in the meantime for "lenticular-shaped alien spacecraft" to see what Aliens you're trying to 'call'.
COOL! I want to learn about welding as I would like to make some metal art. The video gives great info about welding. I have to say that was a great ending. LMAO!
I am a terrible welder yet,but a friend of mind helps me with it when I need it.but he s not here
to offten , so I better learn it my self. And you
help a lot! cause when ever I need an advice I usually go find the best expert on the field around , and it works, but takes to much time. good think that(you founded me) I founded you , I see that you know what your talking bout! tank's for the good tips.
If you really like your friend and neighbor Pat the powder coater, maybe you'll buy him a pipe wrench with brass, anti-spark jaws to use when he's tightening those leaky pipe couplings. It might be a good way for him to keep his 2 million dollar empire from being blown to smitherines. Nice video from a proven winner! Weld away!!!
I suggest that in the future you might want to fit your camera with one of the electronic welding helmets that darken automatically before you destroy the CCD element on your video camera. I'm an electronics technician and to put it plainly, you may toast your camera's active element with all the intense visible and UV light from the arc. Dave
I don't know how I ended up with an invite from you but you are a very talented and i might add, a certifiable nut case. Where did you come up with this idea??? I'm still laughing and understanding welding on a basic level I appreciate the technological approach. I must show this to our certified welders at the shop where I work.
Thanks so much for both the welding lesson and the laughs.... lol lol Dave
great howto on welding, I had to learn some of this stuff the hard way when I was welding my bike trailer from thin-wall piping. If only youtube existed 20 years ago...
Nice detail with the welding torch and mask at the end :o) and good to know that the additives to the natural gas (same chemical base as skunk smell) smells that bad that you'd be sick all over the place before it even became explosive enough to get you to the moon.
This guy know's his shit . I can't tell you how many times I've fucked a small job up like this when I was first learnig how to weld and fabricate . Usefull info thank you Amer FAbr
Awesome man very entertaining and educational!!! You gotta show me some more of techniques bro. BTW how did edit your videos like that what editing program did you use to make your videos...please let me know! Keep up the good work.
you know what is sad is this man is the last of the great americans he is trying to teach all of you what its like to build and the majority have all there lives been only trained from school on up to consume and spend and when you do build something nowadays where i live folks just look at you oddly because they dont understand. this guy is on my hero list and he has a great show!
Excellent combination of education and entertainment. And a very creative ending! Got my thumbs out, and they are both up, buddy! Keep up the good work, and Spielberg - watch out.
nice work. thanks, I learned something new. what would be the sequence of tacks and beads (and direction) when welding angle instead of square tube?

Yes, MIG welding is easy provided you have a basic understanding of the effects of thermodynamics and know what order and direction to run the beads.
What is difficult, however, is applying proper use of grammar - you won't learn that in a youtube video.

I have been in and out of fab shops for the last 20 years(I'm 56 now) and it seems the only guys who are making it are folks like yourself who are self employed and NOT self absorbed. Love it!!!

Love the ending, man! I hate mornings like that.

Dave

I used a Tiffen 43mm UV filter for the welding shots. Thanks for watching! :-)

LOL
great howto on welding, I had to learn some of this stuff the hard way when I was welding my bike trailer from thin-wall piping. If only youtube existed 20 years ago...
Nice detail with the welding torch and mask at the end :o) and good to know that the additives to the natural gas (same chemical base as skunk smell) smells that bad that you'd be sick all over the place before it even became explosive enough to get you to the moon.
rumblfmp 4 years ago
Awesome! You're a good fabricator, especially with all the crap you go through in the high-crime area where the shop is.

you know what is sad is this man is the last of the great americans he is trying to teach all of you what its like to build and the majority have all there lives been only trained from school on up to consume and spend and when you do build something nowadays where i live folks just look at you oddly because they dont understand. this guy is on my hero list and he has a great show!
