@sakura678910 It's more like a divertissement. At those times in Europe, bears were kept and trained for amusement of the people, so it probably meant to be an amusement (as you can see, the bear is told to laid down and roll).
Musically, the only parts I can enjoy in this ballet are the parts in the fair--especially the dance of the coachmen and the grooms, which I ADORE-- all of the music associated with the actual plot--and the actual plot itself--seem intrusive and uninteresting in comparison to me.
@Daruqe All the things that seem uninteresting to you are the spots where Nijinsky was featured in the title role, and had key bits of choreography set for him. It's a shame we have no footage of him dancing, as he was considered the finest danseur who ever lived. But those middle sections in this ballet are in some ways the start of both modern ballet and modern dance. It's not episodic, formal music, but it's great accompaniment to the action.
OhMyGAWRSH! THANKyou, Sinfoniette... I had never ever seen ANY ballet of this very DearToMe "Petrouchka"... I learned the music from one of my treasured vinyl LPs way back in my boyhood... in the '50-s... And I FELL in LOVE with Stravinsky's genius. ThankyouTHANKyou, Sinfoniette... HappyHolidays, too... I am Johnny.

@a7xpfred According to the ballet's plot in Wikipedia, the dragon and the other creatures are supposed to be masqueraders ><

hmm... i don't really get what the point of the bear was. everyone's dancing, it comes in, it goes out, and now everybody's dancing again.
