True that there will always be progressive or unique artists, I was speaking generally. Vast majority of 'rap' or 'hip hop' in the States is commercialized and incredibly annoying and shitty. Even legends like Mos Def and Common have lost their edge. What happened with the whole commercialisation of the industry is an example of people not knowing when to stop. When all the Spike Lee films and Kids was coming out you started to get a much less political and more light hearted sound which at the time was fine but it kept on going and the origins were forgotton (although not altogether like we've said) this is a shame because we're lucky enough to have some knowledge younger generations claiming to love hip hop think Lil Wayne is it.
