  • This was a few years before Jim Littleton left WFAA to return to Lubbock. BTW, Jim is now Jan.

  • The SofT package was a custom, written by Jim Kirk (but there's a lot of Tom Merriman influence in there). TM later syndicated the package for Kirk/WFAA.

  • And the package was written for Texas Sesquicentennial, which was in 1986, the same time sister station KHOU (also owned by Belo) picked up the package and the Spirit of Texas slogan.

  • In April 1984 WFAA introduced "The Spirit of Texas."

    I'm typing this in April 2009, it's 25th anniversary.

  • And that means that when the slogan debuted, so did the music package that made it famous, by TM Productions.

  • I remember Midge Hill on KTVT before it was a CBS station, she did the 9 o'clock news

  • Yep, so do I. She also co-anchored the 10 pm newscast up until her firing in late '96. She and Cameron Harper would do it on Sundays-Thursdays, while Jerry Jenkins and Beth McKay did the Friday-Saturday newscast.

  • Where is Midge Hill now?

  • From what I read, she's doing community service work in Garland (a suburb of Dallas, where I live).

  • In addition, Tony Martinez had to separate tenures at WFAA. His second one began in late '96 and ended in either '99 or '00.

  • *two

  • A very young Midge Hill on the opening credits

  • Who would later become Tracy Rowlett's partner for the 6 PM newscast until 1988 (John Criswell, who co-anchored the 10 PM newscast with Tracy, would move to 6 PM, and Chip Moody would do the 10 PM newscast).
