When I worked in a nature preserve with some snakes one of the women there would kill the mice and smaller rats with some barbecue tongs. She'd put the little guy's head in between the tongs and then smack the tongs into a hard surface. I own two beautiful pet rats so it's always hard to watch, but mcdonalds probably makes it burgers from cows killed for more cruelly 0_o

I really like the neck snap. The method I've seen most is to grab the head in one hand and whip your wrist around. I prefer frozen to deter parasites, but since you breed yourself I guess that's less of a problem.

it depends on my mood. about 80% of the time i feed pre killed or frozen. 2 reasons. the first is the most obvious.. your animals can get injured from a live rat. ive never argued against the fact. 2nd is that i breed my own rats so once i have a little that gets the right size i kill and freeze them. that way it makes room for more rats to be bred and i can be sure that i always have the appropriate size rats.. i feed live for entertainment value.. its just more interesting to watch.
