@954145 Well, I can not speak for the officials, but, as one you have to ask the question, "Was there an advantage gained?" The officials did not feel as such and, frankly, neither did the Va Tech sideline. If it was complined about, I am sure one of the officials would have called it. I do not see any real advantage gained by it. If anything, the kicker is creating a disadvantage to himself in the fact the holder does not have any time to correct an error. By rule, though, you are correct.
@lem4037 The advantage gained is that he had a kick 5 yds shorter than he shouldve...plus he would have had the extra time to think about making the kick...not saying he wouldn't have made it anyway, but there was definitly an advantage gained!
@amattusaf Understood. That is why I made a second post. Tough one either way. Tough no call or call. Something that may be addressed for the upcoming season by crews.
@lem4037 i definitley think there should be, yea im biased being a hokie fan, but i can handle losing, i just can't handle the referees missing major plays and being a major factor in the outcome of a game!
@amattusaf As well you should. As an official, tough for me to argue with you. I would like to hear what the crew thought. Would be very interesting. Bowl games are tough form teams especially when it is a crew and their style is one of which a team is not accustomed. It is also difficult because some conference's crews are sometimes from seperate associations who may differ in philosophies (i.e.- two years ago when seperate Big Ten crews ruled differently on salutes to the crowd).
@lem4037 Very true, I am not as upset about this missed call as i was the catch overturned in the endzone in overtime...IMO there was not enough evidence to overturn the call on the field, but my other major issue with it was the officials explanation after a very short review...i can completly understand conference outlooks on things like you stated, but the things they missed in this game were rules made NCAA wide..im a little bitter because i feel like we all didnt get to see the real outcome
@954145 Looked at it at full speed. I think the official felt he paused long enough after the step thus no call. It was easier to see, though. Tough either way, but I do see your point.
untrue this happened before against cal state where the kicker moved early, they moved the kick 5 yards back, and the kicker missed it, he iced himself, I believe in fair football, apparently you don't
@vcksouth21 wow never saw that.. but i think the crappy call was when #19 danny cole HAD THE BALL... and like freaking always, the refs looked @the michigan fans and saw the pouty faces, therefore GIVING THE GAME TO THE MICHIGAN TEAM... I LOVE VT AND I KNOW THT WAS ALL JUST SET FOR THE MICH TEAM TO WIN OFF A PITY
Did you watch the game? He did that every time he kicked, they aren't going to call a penalty on a kicker's routine.
Try harder next time.

@lem4037 I didn't when I was at the game. Rewatch the kick in full speed and honestly its more obvious lol

Re-watch the whole entire game!!! He did the SAME THING on EVERY other fieldgoal and EVERY extra point. Idk why he was never called.
billybob19606 2 months ago
Wow you're an idiot....Michigan still would've won if the kicker would've had to kick from 5 yards further. Get that sand out of your vagina

whatever. the "penalty" would have just meant that he'd have to kick from 5 yards further. Michigan still would have won.
