James Byrd was a drug dealer. His murder was the result of a drug deal gone bad. There was nothing 'racist' about it. It's makes me mad that the media just picked up the racist murder angle and ran with it. There were members of James Byrd's family that couldn't get into his funeral because the space was taken up by Oprah Winfreys crew. That's just sad.
I personally knew James Byrd, Jr and his family and I assure you he was not dealing drugs. What these three cowards did was nothing more than a hate crime. They went out that night with the intentions of "fu**ing with some N******" that came from them...you need to research more and speak less.
This was a horrible crime, but what made it worse was the ridiculous way the "journalists" covered it. Two of the men that committed the murder were NOT from Jasper. Sean Berry, (who didn't get the death penalty) was the only resident. Racism is a part of every day life for most people of color, and as a white woman, I have no way of understanding what that's like. But Jasper is not divided. The media, and these filmakers, cut things together to make us all seem like racists. UGH!
