  • When I first heaed this song I was five years old. It came over the news reports from England when Germany was bombing the hell out of London. The tune never left my head. The next time I heard it was six months ago when I was surfing the internet. What a joy! I found out that the name of the song title ended in "King" or "Queen", whoever the monarch was at the time the song was sung. Thanks for sharing the cylinder!!

  • And is it an anachronism, in "Breaker Morant", or was it written before the Boer War?

  • written in 1894 by Leslie Stuart for the opening of the Manchester Ship Canal

  • I always thought this was a Gilbert & Sullivan song

  • I have been looking for this song for 28 years, ever since seeing "Breaker Morant" in 1980. Thank you, thank you, for putting this on the Internet. If you've never seen the movie, it's one of the best ever made. Fabulous to hear the song in it's original format, too. Thanks.

  • I have seen the movie, but not for a long time. I'll have look for it at the video store.

I've added the full song as a video responce above.I originally just posted half of it, to see if a friend had this cylinder.

  • just to let you know that there has been a new book published about The Breaker called "Shoot Straight You Bastards". I've not read it yet, but it looks like a real good one. As you said - a superb film
