Hay bro Im a retired Firemen with a water truck. Sent you a vid. The truck is a 89 Ford with a Cummins eng (big cam). Im not much of a engine guy though. Do you know if this eng would has a clutch master cylnder?? It is hard to depress clutch..
That's a great trick with the clutch, would that work to bleed brakes as well? That Detroit sounds amazing, especially where you drove over the camera.
This is a whole new area I'm just getting into. There's a lot to learn and videos like this are a great help, not to mention very enjoyable to watch. Before seeing this, I'd never heard anything like the sound of that 6-71, so I went off to find out as much as I could. Really appreciate the leads. I read somewhere that the 6-71 couldn't be naturally aspirated, but here you say it is. Did I just find bad information?
The old Detroits are 2 stroke and require having a blower/supercharger to run. Any 4 stroke diesel is called naturally aspirated when there is no turbo, so in some circles the term naturally aspirated is still applied to the old Detroits rather than "non-turbo" knowing that it's a given that they must be supercharged or it will never run.
Gotta love them old iron screamin' Jimmies! Did you know that this style of front end sheetmetal was also used on GMC (but not Chevrolet) medium-duty trucks and school buses, but only with gas V-6 engines and only from 1967 through 1969. In 1970 the GMC mediums and school buses switched to the Chevrolet style.
I was surprised to see you have a steering wheel knob (don't know the correct term) on the truck. I believe those are illegal here in Ontario except on farm vehicles. Not sure if even farm trucks can have them.
When I remove a spring clip there's usually a "TONG" and it's never seen again in my lifetime. You're lack of a horn reminds me of the city buses I used to drive. They avoided driver wrath on the public by using very weak horns (meep, meep) instead of a sound of an angry giant that was needed.
I hate hate HATE cage nuts! Had one for the bolt that held the lower control arm on my tercel wagon. Damn thing came un-caged. Ended up tearing some of the unibody apart to get a socket and tons of heat on that blasted nut. Welded the new one in. It will never come undone again.

Ah! You noticed... Found a music library for 99 cent per download. Takes hours to listen through it all, though.

@ElderlyIron One of the coolest things about your videos is the music you use. Makes for a much better video. :)
