  • dangg soprillo and contrabass sax? :O epic..

  • the reed on that thing must be a flat, wide toothpick

  • What a magic, soaring sound.

  • PURE EUPHORIA

  • Spark an interest!

  • wait... is there a PERSON behind that bass sax! XD

  • Me encanta el sonido que le saca este maestro al soprillo. Sencillamente maravilloso.

  • I really want to learn that Soprillo sax now, it's so pretty!

  • I'm curious how small the reed used is!!! Like half that of a clarinet? hehe..

  • @beki289

It uses Eb soprano clarinet reeds and they do have to be shortened.

  • @wildman00sax Soprillo can also use sopranino reeds which provide a better tone and smoother air flow

  • Nice sound! Do the dogs bark when you play that soprillo? I've been playing the saxophone now for 41 years. I love playing in large ensembles, or saxophone chamber orchestras. I enjoyed it very much! Thanks for sharing!

  • Of course the dogs love a bit of Bark.

  • i guess altissimo is out of the question with a soprillo.....

  • @scomdnz9

This is what you secretly grab and play instead of altissmo!! ;-)

  • Whoa. That's amazing. Such a nice Bb sound. It's akin to an upper clarinet register minus the airiness that comes with the sheer amount of air required to hit that note on clarinet.

  • Gorgeous!!!

  • Is that a tubax in the background or a contrabass saxophone?

  • Wonderful piece of music intrument that Soprillo Saxophone!

  • Do the saxes higher than the Alto cost more than the alto?

  • Soprano costs a little less, but Sopranino and Soprillo, and the extremely rare C Soprano cost more than alto.

  • Beautiful Sound!

  • Check out the Eppelsheim Web site for more info on the unique instruments he provides.

  • wow... the sound he can get with that minute saxophone, I can't wait to hear more from this fellow

  • They are 10 saxophones in the sax familly:soprilo, sopranino, soprano, alto,c melody, tenor, baritone, bass, contrabass and subcontrabass. There are also flat alto(played by kenny garrett),flat tenor(flayed by joe lovano),tubax, and saxes played by Roland Kirk(saxello,mandello...)

  • @pektus5, I've researched, and there are 15 saxes in the full family. Here they are: Bb soprillo, Eb sopranino, soprano in C, Bb soprano, Alto in F,

Eb alto, C-melody tenor, Bb tenor, Eb baritone, bass in C, Bb bass, Eb contrabass, Eb Tubax, Bb subcontrabass Tubax.

  • why does the sound remind me an oboe? lol

  • That is the result of the conical bore and their high playing ranges.

  • ahh i love it.

i realy want to get me some more saxes, gonna have to save up to get a family of them :D

ive got an alto but desperately want a soprano & a tenor

  • doesn't quite need a neckstrap, eh? heh

  • It's like a trumpet, but easier to articulate! BEAUTIFUL SOUND!!!

  • oooh wow...I gotta have one of those. Very nicely played.

  • The soprillo is pitched in Bb, one octave higher than Bb soprano sax.

  • oh nigel!!

simply beautiful brought a tear to my eye!

    :D

  • I am not familiar with this instrument..what key is it Bb or Eb? and how does it compare (sounding) to a regular soprono sax..is it a full octave higher?

  • I'm not sure but I guess the whole sax family is Eb and then Bb, so :

Alto= Eb, Soprano = Bb, Sopranino = Eb, so Soprillo should be Bb

    Correct me if I'm wrong

  • where is the sheet music for this?

  • beautiful, like and orchestra but just saxes!!!

  • sounds great.

  • Must have monster chops to play that thing. It's soo high!

  • my mentor plays it and when she first got it, when she practiced, it would cut her lips open.

  • Yep, sounds about right... nasty little bugger. Great once you master it though. I've had the joy of playing one a bit and hope to own someday. Also, GREAT job with this. You are one of the best sounding soprillo players I have heard. Kudos! Such a nice sound with great intonation as well

  • cool sounded like an oboe...

  • BEAUTIFUL

  • that was amazing...i really want a soprillo...always wanted one

  • Fantastic playing!

Has anyone heard Nigel's Soprillogy album yet? There's much more of this quality music on there!!!

  • This is the most beautiful piece of saxophone music I have ever heard, being a tenor player myself, I've played some rather good pieces, but none top this. Well done!

  • so good beautiful

  • beautiful

  • heyy, you guys are really good. you clearly have skill and a passion and thats what make you great

  • I just lost my previously typed comment... Darn computer, but anyway, wonderful performance. Had I not known for a fact that that was a Soprillo being played, I could have sworn it were an Oboe being played the RIGHT way. Again, amazing performance.

  • Had I not known for a fact that it was a Saprillo, I would have sworn it were an Oboe being played the RIGHT way. Sorry, I have a bit of a "tick" if you will about Oboe or any double-reed instrument and how they are played. But back to video topic... Wonderful performance.

  • moving. o sound o lovely sound. i want a soprillo. thank you so much for posting this. love the music. dig the tune.

love seeing women playing the sax! yay!!!!

  • Sorry to be a stick in the mud, but if you were to really get a Soprillo, prepare for quite a long period of inability to play it well. I myself learned that the hard way. Unfortunately, it wasn't my Sax, so any advancement went up in smoke for me.

And I apologize now if I have offended or insulted you in any way, it wasn't my intention to harass or seem rude.

  • beautiful piece and playing. bravo! :]

  • I found his CD - it's called Soprillogy. Sounds amazing!

  • This is a beautiful pice of music, and Mr. Wood has true talent.

  • have you heard this guys new Cd, its all soprillo stuff its sounds amazing.

  • Sublime!, like it so much I cant believe I was clapping to the computer!. Thanks for sharing!

  • i like this song. i remember hearing on the eppelsheim website.

  • Nice Video, hey, do you have anymore Video Clips of the NSC as well as the woman playing solo on the Contrabass Saxophone?

  • The Soprillo is a sopranissimo saxophone.

  • Inspirational playing, great piece and lush accompaniment. Lovely...
