So I just WASTED over 1000 bucks on 4 alpine type r subwoofers. I bought everything i needed: a deck, wiring, and i even made my own subwoofer boxes. Only problem is every time i turn on music MY CAR SHUTS OFF!!!!! Damn alpine doesn't know how to make subwoofers! @sesman1234 Hey man. This could be a number of things, but most likely is the amps are drawing too much power from your battery, causing everything to turn off due to lack of voltage. What kind of amplifier have you got? one amp for all four subs? A Capicitor may help your struggling battery, however your best bet is to buy a MUCH BIGGER BATTERY. The battery in my car is an Optima Yellow Top battery with 750cca. Your moms van is probably between 100-200. Hope this helped.

I just bought these subs and was wondering if i could stick to my pioneer 760 watt peak power amp, 380 Watts x 1, at 4 ohms BRIDGE or go with a KENWOOD KAC-7205 1000 WATTS 2-CHANNEL AMPLIFIER? I was going to bridge them to the 2 channel amp or would this over drive the amp?

@buttermilkyway when you say "these subs", you mean the Alpine Type R's? Neither one of the amps you mentioned would power ONE of these subs. You need to buy an amp that is 1000RMS. RMS is the key thing here, as peak power doesn't mean anything any more.

Also, make sure your wiring is correct. If you bought two Type R's, make sure you know what impedance they are. Then make a decision on what amp to get. Hope this helped.

Type R's are rated at 600w rms at 2 or 4 ohms depending on which 12" (there's two models) you have, they have a PEAK handling of 1,800w, do not put 1000rms to them if you want to keep them.

@buttermilkyway just make sure the continuous wattage of the amp doesn't exceed the rms of the subs this will change depending on how many ohms you have the sub set up as just check your papers that came with the sub and amp they will typically tell you

the cost all depends on what your looking to get, i put 2 10" in a sealed box speakers cost about 160 a pc then box was 127, then you need to find a amp that will push them, i went with a 1500W RMS, Class D Monoblock ZX Series Amplifier cost 420, this totals up to $867 dollars.

wiring in paralell cuts the resistance in half. each woofer is 4 ohm. 2x2ohm. x2 woofers for 8 ohms. wiring them in paralell you get a stable 4ohm. he could of wired them in series for 8 ohms. you either cut it in half. or double it.

@vandehoosie You can wire 1 d2 sub to 1 ohm but you cant wire 2 d2 subs to 1 ohm. you can only wire that to 2 ohms. most amps cant handle a .75 ohm load. Usually you have to get into the higher powered amps to get that low.

4 ohm has more options on running them with multiple sub Applications, you have a better chance of getting 1ohm out of the how load..

I have a dual coil sub 4ohms and im going to set it as 2ohms so i can get more power from an M500 amp rather than using it at 4ohms.

there are 4 wholes and you should have the jumpers. When you connect the jumpers negative to neagtive and positive to positive you get 2ohms.

@seniortiss Hes probably got SWR-1222D type r's which are dual voice coils 2ohms, theres 4 different types of type r's some are 2ohms and someare 4 ohms, they can all be brigded to meet your systems requirements but overall having either 2ohms and 4ohm alone without brigding gives them more clean power
