I've always used audacity to make my bears, but I looked at it to make sure I was doing it right. What I usually do is just make a stereo track and play, let's say, 300hz on one and 312h on the other. Will this still give the same effect or do I need the plug-in?
Hi all, is there any proof that this works to enhance brain function eg memory, concentration, problem sloving, intelligence? i can't find evidence that it works!
thanks for posting this. incredibly informative. i've just found out about this phenomenon. i think it goes even further than we might imagine. awesome link to audacity by the way.
I listen to one I made for sleep, I listen before bed, I fall asleep really fast, like 5 minutes, then when I wake up in the morning, I feel WIDE AWAKE, and I'm not groggy, and I feel refreshed. I can send you the one I made if you want...
PS: I use to suffer from bad nightmares, and since I started listening to the one I made for deep sleep, I have NOT had ONE single nightmare, it's great!
The beat frequency is the *difference* between the left and right channel frequencies - it is perceived only in your brain as a 3rd frequency, not physically audible.
For example, if you want a beat frequency of 12Hz, you will want left channel at N, and right channel at N + 12 or N - 12. I'm not sure if the effect is different either way.
The surf effect is also interesting because it will slowly shift the frequencies back and forth between the 2 channels, giving a fuller sound IMHO.
Mate, rock and metal will NOT entrain your brain into a relaxed state of consciousness (the whole purpose) and will have no benefit at all. Your being a bit picky if you don't want to listen to 'New Age' music with BB's embedded beneath it.
I've been using gnaural with NewMeditation.gnaural (that should only work with gnaural2) and with no background noise... I wonder if it would be possible to do something like that with audacity.
Very interesting could not get on audacity dot org for some reason but what version of Audacity are you using? What have you created so far and do you think it works? Thanks
There is a program called Gnaural (google it and find it), where you can make the beats start at 140 BPS(beats per second) and go gradually down to everything you want like theta, or alpha.
One thing I want to warn you about, is that staying in theta for some time, makes you more dizzy. Drink coffie, and stay at 150% focus ^^ They also say you learn better in theta-mode, and it's also said, being in theta for about 45 min, you need 4 hours less sleep.
That's what I've read, too. The Theta state occurs right before you fall asleep, right after you wake up, and during dreams a lot of the time. It is considered an extremely productive brain state, as you can process information with little to no bias (READ: ego, fear, self-consciousness). It's absolutely amazing.
Uh, right. I hope you have read Robert Monroe's work. He created one of the first practical devices for experimenting with binaural and states of consciousness. He called it the Hemi-sync modulator, and generated shocking results. Careful....
I've heard of the hemi-sync. Do you have a link to those results? I'd love to read them.
Everything I've read on Binaural Beats (a lot) leads me to believe that if you respect what you're doing, and you KNOW what you're doing, then you'll be fine.
You can Google "Monroe Institute of Applied Sciences". I read Monroe's Books (2), which were compiled in the 1970's ( I believe ). HIS results are literally "out of this world", and a fascinating read. The Institute in Richmond, Va. has changed alot since those days....I'm not concerned about the physiological effects - it's the "psychological" stuff that I would venture to say that most people are not prepared for. Have fun, good luck!
On Tool's "AEnema CD", the last song, 'Third Eye' has binaural beats. I listened to it from my computer with headphones on it, closed my eyes, started to relax and kept focus on a deep breathing pattern...
The visuals I was getting were insane. Bright blue flashes of light, almost like fireworks. I have gotten things simmilar to this through straight meditation, although it seemed calmer (you would understand why if you listened to 'Third Eye').
Balance (and knowledge) is very important with this, I've heard. I guess some people have put headphones on and went to sleep, playing some crazy binaural beat frequencies..it should be used with modesty because it, well, screws with your brain frequencies! =p
I used to have a program called Brainwave Generator that created binaural beats and I used to meditate with them, though at a certain point I got freaked out by the concept of actually messing with my brainwaves beyond relaxation on a regular basis.
New Age music is hilarious to me, though there are a few Enya songs that are really beautiful. I can't imagine listening solely to New Agey crystal music all the time, no matter my inclination... ;)
how do you get the plugin to work??
Benji4507 11 months ago
It's actually called beat frequency in physics. The formula is very simple. We use this beat frequency to tune instruments all the time.

Question: Using Audacity, is the Right Channel frequency the actual desired beat frequency or the actual frequency?
E.g., if the Left Channel is 200 Hz and a beat frequency of 12 Hz is desired, should the Right Channel be set at 188 Hz or 12 Hz.
I have seen explained both ways.
RSVP e-mail response if it's not too much trouble.
Thanks.

Funeral doom metal could work with embedded beats. Very relaxing by itself, though it's a very 'dark' relaxation.
Example: Skepticism - Sign of a storm

what??? please read more, you are confused, binaural and stereo are two diferent formats.
Thirt tone??? sound location is made with sound intensity and time, not frequence.

It MUST be Stereo.
If it's mono it won't work.

Exactly. The basis of BBs are the difference in frequency, depicted by the different frequencies in *each* of your 2 ears.

When sleeping most healthy people cycle through : low Alpha- Theta -- Delta -- Theta -- low Alpha- approximately ever hour for most of the night.
