  • Sorry, SP in his prime blows Arnel off the stage. Not just his power, but he had such an unique voice and perfect pitch. He made Journey in the 80s. Arnel is just a younger knock off of the real deal. No, SP can not sing like he did 30 years ago, cause time has worn his voice down, but nobody, I mean nobody did it better when SP was at his best!!!

  • Jonathain looks like something from the "Grench"!!!

  • Steve was awesome, no doubt about it, but Arnel does a hell of a good job...so happy for his success coming from the Phillipenes!

  • We all loved Steve, but ~~~ s o r r y ~~~~ARNEL'S our NEW BABY !

  • All this talk about the vocals (rightly so) but Neal Schon always was and still is an amazing guitarist. He rips on this! One of my favorite Journey rockers of all time.

  • Arnel sings this better than Steve.

  • Yeah, those of us who grew up listening to Journey, all LOVE Steve Perry and always will. No one can replace him. However, with that said, I saw Arnel with the band in New Orleans in 2009, and it was AMAZING! I'm just thankful that because of him Journey is touring again and the music won't die! JOURNEY will ALWAYS be the BEST band ever!!! Thanks JOURNEY for keeping the music alive! By the way this was Arnel's first concert in this video, and he has improved tremendously since this.

  • this rendition rrrocks bettah...even fresher

  • BELOW= SERIOUS MENTAL ISSUES

  • NO STEVE= NO POINT

  • @NoSteveNoPoint =DELUTED'S LOVER! what has y-t joined together let no other user put asunder! hahaha allright!

  • OMG This SUCKS!

  • @NoSteveNoPoint = Deluted’s CONJOINT! Bwaaah

Guys pls read the comments in ‘Journey with Arnel Pineda at Chile - Open Arms’ vid and look at NoSteveNoPoint channel CREATED yesterday. why a new one Deluted? because the Deluted acct has been EXPOSED !! THE PINOY TRAITOR!

  • @garyv82 = Tattina15 AKA Ernie the NO LIFER

  • @NoSteveNoPoint tattina15 is my co-sgt at arms in y-t. im very proud of her. for 3 yrs she’s one of few who stayed here against the forces of evil to name a few: @DelutedPerryfan1980 (that’s you) NoSteveNoJourney (that’s you) NoSteveHasReturned (that’s you) and YOU! Bwaaaa

  • uh, but he can't carry the high notes through well...every time he sings "(can't help myself (I'm falling)"...

  • Sorry folks, but Steve Perry NEVER EVER sounded this good.

  • If you think this guy is better than Steve Perry, you are tone deaf. Perry made Journey famous.....nobody sings like him !!

  • Pineda kicks Perry soft ass. there so much natural power

  • I actually prefer Arnel's voice to Perry's. Just listen to the two and compare. Perry sings with his nose. Arnel sings with his diaphragm. Arnel has a much ballsier voice that is more suited for this style music. Not to mention Perry is almost always a tad sharp when it comes to start belting out the choruses.

  • arnel sounds great..its neil that sounds like shit..listen to the video of journey in concert in 1981 on here with steve perry and neils playing sounded MUCH better..in this concert it sounds like shit...way to rough!!!! dont hate on arnel you steve perry nut huggers..open your ears and get it right

  • One of the best Journey songs ever

  • This is good and he even does a good new Journey sound. Some guys that take over for a singer can't help the group keep going. This guy is great. I would like to see Steve Perry and this guy do a hit and run tour. All of a sudden Steve would walk out and then they could trade vocals. This guy is just different enough to make it work but good enough to keep journey alive.

  • Arnel is good, but he does not come close to the POWER of Perry! I was a part of that and Steve was sexy, talented and there weill NEVER BE ANOTHER LIKE HIM. F.Y.I. He ISN'T GAY EITHER! Sorry, the truth hurts, hehehe

  • Even the last singer they had sounded a lot like Steve.. i don't think you can replace Steve but they found some good imitators. At least they kept playing after Steve hung it up.

  • I found out Arnel was Journeys new singer when I was in Manila in 2008. My gf brought up a video with him singing.

  • Steve can play that guitar!! :D

  • Neal Schon is on the Guitar on Steve

  • Arnel is good, but this IS Steve Perry's song. This has got to be, to me, Journey's BEST and hardest hitting song. So CLASSIC. The guitar part at the end is so EPIC, on the record version, anyway. lol

  • Well, Arnel is not Steve Perry in his prime, but then who is? Arnel is just awesome and he seems to have good chemistry with the band. Neal looks so happy and still sounds great. I wish them much success.

  • I LOVE YOU ARNEL PINEDA<<<<<

  • @ThePinkCustard do any of you people perform for a living. these comments are so absurd and stupid. this guy is a talented singer who was asked to join a legendary band, should he quit because you people want steve perry back, Steve Perry has not performed live in 16 years.

  • @edsheahan1 Not true, Steve just did something a few months back I heard from a grape in the vine.

  • Journey w/o Steve Perry isn't the same, but I do think that Arnel does a great job with songs. Agree that Arnel doesn't look anywhere close to early 40"s and is talented.

Let him compose a song or two of his own... I have faith that he will kick ass.

Would definately go see Journey in concert. Neal did an awesome job finding Arnel. It's like AC/DC w/Bryan Johnson.... I prefer Bon Scott, but still listen & like AC/DC w/ BJ.

  • @1216lanie He has done that with journey and it was great. The record was more mature than Journey used to be but it still had that Journey feel to it. Just sayin

  • Steve Perry where are you, this guy is flat

  • @mrscott99 I know, right?! I don't watch many arnel vids, and I watched this for a comparison, and I just cringed the whole time. Seriously, I'll give credit where it's due, but if a guy is flat, he's flat. I can do without the dancing around if he would sing the song the way it was meant to be sung.

  • Dean is a great drummer and all, but he's no Aynsley Dunbar.

  • This guy is great.........very close to Steve Perry in sound and range.

  • There will never be another Steve Perry. But,Arnel is the perfect fit to the band.He has the great talent & his own style.Great job Arnel.

  • Arnel may not have great voice like perry but he performs better on stage.it's more on rock. And for info, Arnel is already 41 when jouney did this concert.

  • @ThePinkCustard it's better than the original karaoke.

  • is this karaoke? American Idol? This guy couldnt carry Steve Perry's song book.

  • He is the Best....

  • This is at the beginning of Arnel and Journey; his voice gets better, though it will never match Perry.

  • stone in love

  • Arnel 's voice is better than this...

  • Those crazy nights, I remember in my yout, :17

He seems like a nice guy, but he can't compare to Steve Perry. Imitation only.

  • Steve GAY voice miserably

    Arnel's voice phenomenal.

  • agree steve perry was a drag queen, arnel comes close to his voice. just different for us that were used to steve

  • EL BATERISTA QUIERE SOBRESALIR

  • DESPIDAN A ESE BATERISTA

  • @marco64galrza ?????

  • i love Steve, and to tell you the truth, journey got fucking lucky when they found arnel.

  • Steve Perry sang these songs in his vocal range... Arnel is phenomial despite having to sing this song in the G chord. Lot of singers do awful live... I've heard Steve Perry sing flat before... but he's still phenominal... They have average nights sometimes too.

  • yankee = Got IQ?

  • He'll never get another chance to ruin Journey AGAIN!

  • @StevePerrySucks i troll harder than you

  • WOW! Another ANAL EXPERT! LMFAO!!!!

  • givehima breatit was his first time, lol watch his concert in toronto amp. theater he sang as good as steveperry, i dont think arnel is better. but yagot to give him credit its not easy to sing journey songs

  • @Chokut0 nice try dip shit it isnt the 80s any more steve cant sing that way now he sucks dick now

  • @EMOisGAY4 lol, that was funny, i think arnel sounds good

  • This guy is garbage . Anal Penitrata..lol!!!

  • Arnel sounds is better ,Steve's voice is only Arnel's fart sound.

  • Is the sound off? Arnel sounds fine, but the guitar sounds "muddy." It's probably the mix.

  • Neal's guitar sound sucks.

  • @NoSteveNoJournee = BUT YOU SUCK A LOT OF DICKS!!

  • Actually at his age I credit Arnel for having sustained these keys as long as he did. Again, look to the right and you'll see Steve Perry's performance. He was much younger but technically it ain't pretty either - flattened notes etc, but who cares??? The main thing is to appreciate the music and cut the lead singers a break - Journey material on the road is tough, on ANYone.

  • They are just GODS!!! <3 ARNEL PINEDA/JOURNEY forever!!!

    MABUHAY ang CHILE!!!

    MABUHAY ang PILIPINAS!!!

    MABUHAY ang JOURNEY!!!

  • Guitar is SO muddy in beginning, and Arnel is so flat, which is odd. 6y298 hit nail on head- too high!

  • I hope Arnel is learning that he does not have to match the original recordings - he can sing lower harmonies in some parts to preserve his voice. Guess who else (wisely) did this live? Steve Perry - watch his live 1981 version of this song. Leave the bloody uber high super accurate pitch perfection for the studio.

  • Journey is fortunate to have Deen Castronovo to handle the higher harmonies and some of the lead vocals on some pretty tough tunes...Mother, Father and Something To Hide are just a couple he does. As heavy as their tour schedule is, Arnel would be wise to back it down in some places to save his voice. Dropping the tuning a half step would help too.

  • arnell, steves a pussy

  • Who's better? Arnel? or Steve?

  • Rock on Arnel!

  • By no means is he Steve Perry, but he's really talented!

  • I agree

  • @KellyLynnSV no, no is steve perre man

  • Neal's tone in the new concerts and music is just jaw dropping. He is so underrated. Glad they are still around and playing.

  • I would have to disagree..If u lsten to the 81 concert with SP neals guitar is much clearer and crisp..it sounds distorted to me here

  • they ve asked to have perry back dozens of times- but he would only come back if he got the rights to all of the songs- they felt that together they own the rights since theyre a group. perry wrote some but most of them were written by john - not fair-- better with arnel- people will come back to see perry and not the group themselves- not the Journey spirit

  • I think Arnel's voice is WAY STRONGER than Steve Perry or the other Steve dude...They are ALL good singers in each own rights,,Im just glad that Journey is still Rockin and keepin it as close to the real deal as possible.

  • Journey's a great band, but I guess I'm never going to get used to Pineda after listening to Steve Perry for so long. Plus, while his voice is pretty similar to Steve's in some respects, if you listen, Perry often goes sharp on his singing and stays strong, while Pineda's trails flat and doesn't have the power that Steve did while he was with Journey. Both are excellent performers, but there's no comparison between them. STEVE PERRY FOREVER!!!

  • journey is one great band for arnel pineda is one dream made come true.

  • It's hard to believe Pineda is like 40; he moves like and looks like he's in his 20s.

  • @revolutionaryluddite

I know. I keep calling him the kid and he's definitely not a kid. But he has more energy than most of the people I know that are half his age. lol

  • @revolutionaryluddite he is 40???

  • schon is not nearly as cool without the big hair

  • Don't know too many rockers with 'fros nowadays.

  • To be fair, all that hairspray chemical emissions from the 1980s probably took three centuries out of the life of our planet.

  • The guitar souns different because it is tuned to the singer, dumb ass.

  • Dakotaescher and Gammerman.....I disagee,as soon as I show your comment I hooked up a Parker Nitefly w/ swamp ash body and 2nd series of Spider Line6 and tuned the guitar on normal 440 and it sounded similar, but I see Jon Cain playing with 12 string Fender.I also tried it on CarvinEA185 and Legacy HB,all sounded similar.

  • neals guitar sounded better before

  • how come when you watch the videos with steve perry back in the 80's the band sounds so much cleaner??? arnel sounds good but the band sounds like shit...

  • because neal is using a higher pitch distoration

  • that and the quality of the video is simply not good lol, if u were watching it live it would soudn much better.

  • well the bass does sound a tad strong

  • whats wrong with strong bass, huh?

  • Schon's guitar sounds like schit.

  • word.

  • Yeah, I dont know why guitarist cant leave there sound alone when it obviously was a hit in the past...... crap on this sound!!!! :(

  • blindmellonchittlen, that's jon cain. but he does look like bill engvall

  • I want a reunion of The Storm (with Kevin Chalfant and Gregg Rolie)!

  • I don't see any of you onstage.......???

  • When did Bill Engvall start playing rythem guitar for Journey?

  • lol

  • That's funny , LMAO

  • The mixing was horrible for this show... that plays a big role in how bad everything sounds.

  • There's an old saying "he without sin, cast the first stone." For those of us who have gigged and know some of the members of 80's bands we know none of the original singers have a perfect night every night. For Arnel it's a tougher because he's expected to "cover" perfectly... where as the original singers sing lower notes at times and it's no big deal. Arnel's got the track record singing in clubs everything from Zeplin to Heart hits the notes live. He's great for Journey and America.

  • i cant resist commenting. that 'cast the first stone' pun was purposeful, right?

  • no, I didn't even notice until you pointed it out. .. But I know the Orginator of those words does have a sense of humor.

  • just enough for a first time performance with 25K audience watching. Anybody else placed in his shoes had peed his pants in the middle of the first song. Facing the monster crowd with no mercy for pretenders is already a baptism by fire, any other concert is just a walk in the park! See one for yourself then comment

  • He is very good. His voice is amazing.

  • Journey are back after years in the wilderness, they are kicking some serious ass now. Arnel has the voice and can put in the performances day after day, Deen hits the drums as hard as any man, ross is still the same old Quality Ross, John is a legend and Neil is the very best guitarist that god ever let grace the earth.

  • Love the new lead singer. Nothing but praise from me except one thing: I wish Arnel would stop inserting "come on' (0:46 & 1:41) while he's singing. I know he wants the audience to sing along, but I'd like to hear the songs and I'd like to hear his voice. Aside from that, love Arnel and the rejuvenated Journey.

  • i had a 'my cousin vinny' flashback, listen to the opening lines. "Did you say yoot? What is a yoot?!"

  • iy t

  • STONE IN LOVE I LOVE THIS SONG

  • i love Arnel!

Ps. i like the first part of the song....

  • Arnel Pineda rocks!!!!

  • Journey was also excellent. I had my doubts about their new lead singer - who could replace Steve Perry? But Arnel Pineda did an excellent job. He definitely has a very different energy than the other musicians, all 15-20 years older than him (while he looks 25, hes actually 41). The older band members are more still, more focused on their instrument, while Pineda is frenetic, hyperactive, running, dancing and leaping over the entire stage, sometimes a bit underfoot.

  • and i bet you cant sing shit either

  • perry wouldnt go 3 songs with journey now..and i need no proof about that..i dont mean to diss perry in any sort but atleast live your life in the real world..not unless Perry has enough money to manufacture himself some new sets of vocal chords

  • i like arnel singing this song better then steve

  • Now finding somebody who can sing as well as Freddy Mercury did, would be a real and true challenge

  • HAPPY NEW YEAR Mr. Arnel Pineda because today is your birthday, the beginning or the first day of your birth Month. Drinking or smoking is against Spiritual purposes. It could destroy ur skills. Stress is a silent killer. The richest person in the world is the healthiest person. Since life itself is the greatest blessing that we all could have today, then please keep Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 as my Gift. Good looking.

  • arnel is an amazing musician... JOURNEY is the greatest band of all time!

  • If Steve Perry was so fuckin' great, how come his solo career NEVER took off?LOL! That's why they call it a GROUP..To the people who think the world stopped when SP left Journey, move on with your sadass life..The guy who's doing the singing now is doing a pretty good job.

  • What are you talking about "never took off"? He had lots of hits and did quite well solo! Arnel is excellent and Journey still kicks ass but they never had a big after Steve left! They just tour the world playing the hits from their prime when Perry was in the band! Nothing wrong with that but Arnel has no legacy except Steves!!!!

  • Long live the talented Filipinos, we are all over the world! As Paul Rodriguez said in his concert in LA, in 100 years we will all look like FILIPINOS!!!!

  • Jeez, every one of these Journey posts goes "high school" before the end of the first page. If you're going to compare the two singers, then compare Arnel's work to what Steve was doing at the same age. And don't be the kind of retard who renders an opinion based on a crappy, low-rez YT vid.

Yes, Arnel is no band replacement. He the band's second life. He is the band's heart replacement, kidney replacement, hip replacement.. OOPs..

    Journey Rocks!

  • This band and its fans constantly live in the past...lets hope that with Arnel they have a shot at being relevant in a modern contaxt and to a wider, younger audience. Cain and Schon are two of the greatest songwriters ever and they deserve another chance to prove themselves as longstanding artists.

  • That´s the route their current manager is taking them. They have a whole new market to work with. Instead of spending more time comparing the reality of one singer to the memory of another one. The highschoolers will keep posting so-and-so is not perry. Yes everybody knows! But music listening and music business is not about, "BB King is not Willie Dixon" kind of appreciation. There´s more to it. Enjoy the music.

  • he has a great voice,but not like Steve's

  • Im happy but i wish steve would come back

  • don't watch things you don't enjoy.I am addicted to Arnel.

  • okey perry fans, this is not just about arnel, this is about Journey and if you really are a Journey fan,you should be happy that they keep on coming back to entertain the fans regardless of who sings but instead you want to bash arnel coz he's different, GROW UP PERRY FANS! this aint about Perry or Arnel, this is about ENTERTAINMENT! NOW MOVE ON! HURRAY TO JOURNEY!

  • I agree! I just saw BOSTON last night with their new singer Tommy DeCarlo. And like Arnel, discovered via the internet. He carries on the "Boston Sound" that we as fans fell in love with, sounding like Brad Delp. And now, the voice of Steve Perry and Journey is back thanks to Arnel Peneda , so let's just enjoy what we have!

  • wow a lot of haters! Steve, Arnel both amazing singers! The best... opinion but Steve has been voted in many times over. But Neil, holy shit amyzing as always! What a bad ass! BTW- whols band is bad ass as always. Awesome tunes!

  • I just saw a vid of Journey and Steve Perry doing this tune live----what a frickin' joke Steve Perry was. Perry can't even come close to Pineda's talent. Lance in beautiful Bremerton, Washington

  • 40milesband-- listen to Steve Perry's live version of this song in 1994 concert. Its just totally HORRIBLE, out of tune, pitchy, any cover band can sing it better.

  • all those of you guys seems like people in irak waiting for attack

be more respect, I love Old Journey with the legend Steve, but i'm here enjoy New journey with Arnel....Stop this war of shit opinions...

Neal and Steve is laughing of all of us...!

  • 40milesband-- We already get it after several of your post that you are actually a SP fan. We got it! ok!... Arnel Pineda ROCK ON!!!!

  • this is the worst steve perry cover of arnel. but what the heck. the is too difficult anyway. even perry struggled on this song on live performance. i agree with 40milesband that they should bring the key a notch down if they gonna perform this live, or better yet, don't play this song.

  • Forget Steve Perry. Arnel is god. Lance in beautiful Bremerton, Washington

  • At least the guitar solo is excellent...

  • That's your right...but I stand by it. Half the time he sounds great but the other half plain sucks, and it doesn't have to. It's just a bit out of his range. The last note before the solo sounds like he gave up altogether...

  • i completely agree wit u on that one

    40milesband

  • Perry was too interested in being a solo artist, and aside from his debut album, his individual work never really caught on - friction with bandmates, his voice wore out, and in comes new lead singer - OF COURSE, they're going to look for someone who sounds exactly like Perry, they have a HUGE catalog of songs written for SP - the fact is this guy is better than Augeri or Soto - yeah, SP can never be rplaced, but this is as close as we're gonna get.

A nice addition, tour/album WILL be a hit!

  • Perry has not lost his voice. He may not have quite the range, but the voice is still there.

I think AP has a good voice, just needs to bring keys to songs down a notch to stop sounding like his voice will give out any second. This is just plain awful in spots.

  • im with you if you can't get steve perry make new song's for the new guy and stop trying to find someone to mock steve's voice ,this guy is good but he is no perry

  • Sorry, I would love to give this guy a chance, it's why I'm listening. However, he just doesn't have the range, hitting flat notes all over the place. It's painful, really.

  • lol steve perry always having a trouble singing his song live :D and this guy nailed every song of the journey..

  • 420BTBAM-sure about that.Ur not the only one doin' homework man. I checked of old clips of perrys especially in live concert. There are things that I noticed that he does. In high notes he cut it short or he lower the notes so he can execute it. In his young age he was'nt very energetic and lively. When he sings it sounded comin out from his nose. In lower notes he sings it very loudly but when its high notes comin, his voice start to fade and gone. I actually watch one of his clip last night.

  • This is good. you can see the band playing outside of the constraints they had on the final days. Neil seems more free now to remind the world who´s boss. He was too low key at the end of the Perry years.

  • speechless! W O W!

  • BRAVO!!!!!!!!!

  • NEWS FLASH!!

Here it is, Arnel-Journey's new song. Type in: "Journey, Never walk away"

Hey J-fans, call in your local radio stations & demand/request them to play it.

Great awesome song!! AND SURELY MORE TO COME. Amazing, the local concert ticket sales here are going fast & furious...

  • pineda is soo amazing he is just like steve perry
