  • I wanna punch that little kid in the face so bad that he wished he hadn't been so disrespectful with Griet.

  • i've seen this quite a few times but only just noticed the black and blue handprint on her neck from the douche patron...

  • Oh I got my ears pierced that way,, the old fashioned way all the way!

  • omg. OUCH.

  • I officially prefer the way we pierce ears now, with a gun. Any other way is just scary.

    PS Love this movie.

  • Holy crap! The sexual tension here is super thick.

  • I like the interpretation of Griet losing her virginity here. The reason she does it is ambiguous, where as in the book it was almost explained. Griet probably didn't even know why she was doing it. Probably out of her mind horny from days of eye fucking with the master...

  • My aunt looks a lot like the woman from the original painting when she went to Europe and saw it herself she was like WTF??? o.O lol xD

  • I hate all of his "Fix it then."

  • Dammit! Johansson is a great actor.

  • i would soooo let him pierce me......that sounds bad but i mean it both ways to anyone who gets it :P

  • 7:35 My God! She looks like exactly "the girl with a pearl earring"! :)

  • I don't really get it. Is she in love with Vermeer or Pieter?

  • @silverdeer083 I think she likes both... kind of. In diffrent ways.

  • Oh, and she was totally thinking of Vermeer when she was with Pieter.....

  • @MozartGirl1756 well she loves vermeer and she does what most women do who cant have the man she really wants....she takes her frustrations on whose ever available hahaha i know..ive done it ;)

  • I can probably watch the ear piercing scene over and over.

When he pulls her close to him and then touches her lips always sends shivers down my spine. So unbelieveably erotic, intimate and heartbreaking.

  • oh, Cillian

  • what happened to her neck?

  • Is the wife's husband, the artist, in love with Greit?

  • Well duh...Vermeer piercing Griet's ear = penetration. Basically as sexual as it gets.

  • Comment removed

  • I'm not sure who's more pervy; van Ruijven for obvious reasons or cornelia for standing there watching

  • such a good book.

  • wth ia tht thing supposed to be on Maria Thin's head ? xD

  • @crazzibri It's a cap, commonly seen on Dutch women in paintings of the period.

  • so does she marry him?????????????

  • For me it's... having pole sex with Cillian Murphy: Alright.

Being painted and having my ear pierced by Vermeer: Pricless.

  • 00:50 buriallll

  • I never knew how...cool Collin Firth could be. lol

  • the scene with vermeer piercing her ear is so much more intimate than the sex scene with pieter.

  • did she really have sex with him?

  • PERVERTTTTTTTTTTT! :O

  • man she is anithing but not lucky! it makes her sick so she f*cks with the other guy

  • do i notice a hickey ooooo lol

  • notice at 9:58 how many hickies she has ;)

  • @TheAuntVera Bruises, not hickies

  • @TheAuntVera yes bruises from practically getting sexually assaulted

  • that child is evil!

  • Actually, she pierces her own ears and passes out thinking: "I've always wanted to wear pearls." This scene was altered to give them another level of sexual tension.

  • did cornellia jus save her? was she the one calling cause if she did then good im glad she not a total b****

  • 7:48 is breath takeing

  • Very romantic, doing it in a barn...

  • I really wanted Vermeer and Griet to kiss passionately. The sexual tension is so obvious.Superb acting from both Colin and Scarlett.

  • what does she mean by "you looked inside me"?

  • @CaskeyLee17 He saw her soul, not just her face :)

  • @AkiraChan24

i don't get it though, the picture LOOKS like her. wut's dat got to do with her soul?

  • @CaskeyLee17 Well I believe she meant that though he painted her face very well, there was more meaning to the painting than JUST her face. That he did so well that he painted her soul as well, and was able to show it in her expression.

  • @AkiraChan24

wut wuz so amazing bout dat?

  • @CaskeyLee17 it's hard to bring the soul out into an expression. it's hard to paint with such emotion. maybe that's why it is so amazing.

  • @CaskeyLee17 :D

  • @CaskeyLee17 Caskey, you're funny! :D

  • cornelia. sick bitch.

  • I thought it was soooo sweet how he held her close when she hurt peircing her ears.

also, it would have been SO romantic if he has saved her from that disgusting pervert :)

  • @VirginiaJJMae I agree with everything you've just said XD I was hoping he would retaliate somehow. *sigh* oh well. I guess that's what the imagination is for.

  • SKRÄMMANDE LIKT....

  • I like the fact that Scarlett doesn't say much in this movie, while at the same time, not having to resort to that whole "awkward close-up heavy breathing" thing they do in those terrible Twilight movies. Her character is awkward, but she shows that subtly. Well done. :D

  • she tries hard to escape from master love that is why she goes to his boyfriend every time after she feels the master....heart breaking

  • well at least she got to look at colin firth all the time he was painting

  • im so in love with colin firth.

  • I actually heard it said on tv that Scarlett Johanssen had multiple piercings prior to the filming of this.

  • woehoe little player are we: screwin' the guy and than play hard to get :D

  • you all did know that Tom Wilkinson (the one wanting the painting) was in The Full Monty.....

  • @MsRustySpoons I saw it once years ago when it first came to the theaters. Which one was he? I don't recall. Great movie. Really made me laugh!!

  • gingers=evil.

  • Should I feel weird for thinking the old dude is hot?

  • @vyxsin64 which one? Johannes or that van ruiben guy?

if you mean the first one, i think he's definetly hot, too

  • @chriiissii1 definetely Colin Firth; hes like a hot dad xD

  • COLIN FIRTH, I'D POSE FOR YOU ANYDAY BABE.

  • does she agree to marryhim?

  • Say, am I wrong or is the pearl in the actual painting more a greyish shade?

  • Being painted by a master artist: amazing. Having pole sex with Cillian Murphy : Priceless.

  • @twilightsdawn94: Shouldn't never been censored either.

  • What does she say at 0:51 - 0:55 ?

  • @Another7747 "You looked inside me."

  • that is so sexy how his hands traveled from the ears to the cheeks, and then to touch her lips. sooo sooo hot!

  • is that a hickey? :O :D

  • scarlett johansson looks nothing like the actual painting.

  • hate the ginger kid (cornelia). hate van ruijven.

  • haha she has a hickey on her neck at the end

  • @Krystal2290

    Haha, indeed

  • @Krystal2290 I think that's just a bruise from when van Ruijven attacked her. It's there at 3:32.

  • @Krystal2290 actualy i think its bruising from when van ruijven grabbed her

  • @Krystal2290 she had it well before that, after that old fella attacked her,

, look at the next scene...

  • that is beautiful

  • i still dont understand why she had sex with peiter

  • @EternallyConfuzled she thought it was her duty. she knew pieter loved her.

read the book, it's really good.

  • @EternallyConfuzled She felt really guilty about what she did, posing for the portrait. To make amends with her conscious, and to please her parents, and Peiter, and to secure her future, she committed herself.

  • @EternallyConfuzled

Probably because she felt compelled to "erase" her guilt. But regardless...what's not to understand? Pieter is hot!

  • Of course it is impossible to paint in an earring without having to peirce your ear. *eye roll*

    Omg, Cillian....I love you.

  • Does anyone think the sex scene's a bit too dramatic? Not trying to offend or anythin, just wonderin.

  • haha lolz

I think its hilarious that in all of the

older themed movies and booksthey always do it in a barn for instance The scarlet letter, and the Crucible lol

  • I think that Griet seems to like Pieter more in the film than in the book.

  • @hallonsyltmuffin I have that feeling as well. In the book it seemed like Pieter was the only acceptable way to carry on. She thought he was a good man but there was nothing like love.

  • @hallonsyltmuffin Agreed.

  • minute 6 is the sex scene sublimated.....

  • @IExposeMormonism your perspective is very macho, virginity is in the mind.

  • @LeN0Re18 There is nothing Macho in "Minute 6 is the love scene sublimated". . It's what it is. Read a little psych. Virginity is a physical reality. Some never comprehend it. Ask Lady GaGa, Christina Aguilara, Madonna, those sort. Then compare those things to what is going on here.

  • Thank you for this movie. this story inspire my earrings creation so I sen you the video.

  • is this factual>?

  • @bcarls50 No, it is not. The movie is based on a novel which tells a fictional story of the circumstances that brought about the creation of Vermeer's "Girl with a Pearl Earring" painting.... mostly because very little is know about his work.

@xsemiramiss thanks for posting this movie!

  • doesnt she have a baby with pieter,,, BTW i have to do an essay about this book but i didnt bother to read so i watched the movie :)

  • well good luck. the movie missed alot of details.

  • i'm doing the same thing right now but mine is just a whole bunch of journal entries and a plot graph xD though it was due monday. it's fairly boring i found until the last half ish

  • this film is fantastic, and the photography, sublime. It seems that you are seeing pictures of vermeer every moment. and colin firth it's really amazing performing vermeer.

  • I read the book long time ago, and I think she never saw the painting. Am I right?

  • yeep she never sees the painting

  • wow Griet's supposed to be 15? Geez i tyhought like 18 /19 or somtihng

  • she's 16 actually, and she stays there til she's about 18..so she could be 17 here i guess

  • I don't get why she sleeps with pieter?

  • well in the book they had been "courting" for months. but she felt she was too young, yet when Vermeer sees her with her hair gone she feels like shes lost her purity and lets go her inhibitions with pieter. in the book she pretty much says oh what the heck

  • @pinkfedora91 In my opinion it was more than one thing that led her to going all the way. The piercing of her ear was symbolic, emotionally to her losing her virginity. VanRyven is after her, and knows that Vermeer has kept his hands off her...knows she's still a virgin and wants her all the more for it. And lastly, Griet has been sitting all day in front of Vermeer and can't stand the emotional tension any longer. She's confused but also is learning what she wants...she loves Pieter.

  • true, true. cool i didnt think of it that way, thanks

  • @clickmetostart

I think she does the things she actually wants to do with her master Vermeer with the Butcher boy Pieter

  • @rockinloveswebpet

I have not read the book so I might be all wrong but I do not think so.

I felt that she just wanted to recover her integrity.

For me, she was upset by the attempted rape, and humiliated from the knowledge that she had let the master make her sit before him, take of the cap and even pierce her ear for the private fun of that lecherous man. She felt that she would pay nearly any prize for partaking in the colorful world the painter had introdused to her and was scared.

  • @MsSilentia

Yeah, that's true. I think your idea is better x'D

I haven't read the book also...

so it was just a guess.

  • why are all the men slimy and annoying

  • Lol. Doing it against a post your first time? Hmm...brave.

  • I agree. The book is better than movie.

  • Art is ruthless.

  • cute eskimo kiss at 9:56 ^^

  • im sorry to say but i was really dissapointed with this movie..

i dono if i was the only one but i think the movie really does the book no justice.

if anyone has not read the book yet i highly recomoned reading it.

  • Yes, definitely agree. And her open mouth is disgusting.

  • I did read the book and I can honestly say this movie is one of those exceptions to the general rule that the book is superior to the movie.

  • i agree in the fact that you get so much more of griet's character and the way she thinks and in that shes a more dimensional person. although Colin firth in this definitely beats the mental picture i had of Vermeer (in a very good way)

  • Jeez it seems like everything Van Rujivan says in this movie is a double entendre!

  • was she having sex with him or just kissing and fondling? i wasn't sure.

  • it was definitely sex - that's what happened in the book & most certainly looks like it here.

  • She's got hickeys @ 9:43

  • those are the marks that the bad guy left on her with his hands.

  • he is so cute

  • 9:15 he is soooo cute!

  • lucky bastard 8:55

  • Grr, she needs to marry the hot guy! lol

  • how much of this story is actually true?

  • none, it's all fiction! the author wrote the book based on what she thought the story was behind the relationship between Johannes Vermeer and the model!

  • i think none of it, unfortunately!

  • none of it.

  • all of it.

  • in the book she says that after posing with her lips parted anything can happen to her.decent girls always posed with their mouths shut so the painting meant she was not "decent".also her relationship with pieter is much more developed and they have much more physical contact before they make love/have sex.she had been refusing to go all the way but after being painted like that she stopped caring.hope it helps in some way.the book explains much better than i can.

  • btw,her open mouth is also why the wife is so repulsed by the painting and claims it's obscene.

  • In the book was written that after Vermeer saw her hir anything may happen to her -- in other words that at that moment she lost her innocence.

  • did he rape her?

  • not yet

  • i would have maried him

  • i get some of this movie, but not a lot of it. why did griet feel the immediate need to go and have sex with pieter?? is she in love with him? hes definitely in love with her.

  • She can´t get to the real one but is full of needs and emotion...

  • I always wondered that too, and I think it's because she didn't want to risk Master Van Ruijven taking her virginity instead.

It's just like he said to her among the washing lines: "Ripe as a plum... still unplucked."

    Hope that helps!

  • pieter is so cute. and he really is in love with griet. i feel bad for him

  • the part when Vermeer put the earring to Griet is very lovely, full of passion. my favorite scene.

  • me too

  • Cornelia must be here instead of Catharina!

  • Corneila seemed disappointed.

  • yes Cornelia must be very disappointed!

  • she does the things she want's to do with her master with the butcher.

  • She looks so freaking much like the painting, it is just really scary. But she is lovely, he is cute too btw

  • Yeah I know. It's amazing how they managed to position her EXACTLY as the painting. Right when he says "Look at me," and she turns, that's the painting right there.

  • Honestly, these are the first love bites I saw in a movie after they did some heavy kissing(or more).

    =D

  • for some reason it tells me that an error has occured and that i need to return later >:(

  • That old guy is such a sleaze! And a man whore! EW! But I like Peter though. Yum Yum!

  • omg he is so freakin beautiful. dang, what i would give to be Griet lol

  • Has there ever been a sexier scene with Colin, OMG! Pain and ecstasy all in one beautiful scene ... ohohoh! Thanks for uploading, dear S*xxx
