For those who think ali was "the greatest of all time" need only to look at this fight! "the greatest..." is a title ali gave himself. Some "experts" regard spinks as the "worst champion of all times" but look who he beat - along with 5 others? Let's not forget the robbery decisions ali was given too. No, ali was not "the greatest". Joe Louis with a 13 year reign, and Larry Holmes - who demolished ali - with 48 straight wins were better.

But ali is supposed to be "the greatest of all times". Age should not have been an excuse. Holmes destroyed him easily, and even took it easy so he wouldn't hurt him. He was given so many decisions only because he finished.Earnie Shavers, Jimmy Young, Frazier II,and Norton II are a few. Norton was known for a glass jaw,but ali couldn't knock him out. A 13 year title reign is superior to ali. Joe Louis was not only better, but more class.

His disease is hereditary and he began showing signs of Parkinsons back in 1975, BEFORE the Thrilla in Manila. Ali actually failed physicals, but was allowed to fight, particularly before the Evangelista fight. Trust me, I have inside information.

People forget, that Spinks didn't win the Championship in the ring. It was giving to him cause, Ken Norton didn't fight him. So when Ali got the decision against him, its more like beating a club fighter than anything else. So what if he won this fight at 37, George Foreman won it in his 40's and against a better fighter.

Foreman is a completly different fighter then Ali. Foreman relied on power, power is the last thing to go in a fighter. All big power fighters can have a long career Ali relied on speed and that's the FIRST thing to go in a fighter. Fighters like Ali normaly can't box until their late 30's on such a level.Besides that Ali was already showing signs of braindamage here.

Umm, NO. Spinks won both the WBC and WBA titles in this fights and HE was stripped of the WBC title because he chose to fight Ali in a rematch instead of Norton. Ken Norton is the one who didn't win the title in the ring, he was just awarded it because he beat Jimmy Yound in a WBC title eliminator. You are very wrong sir.

Actually, Ali could have been 61-0. His first loss with Frazier, he took the fight too soon after over a 3 year layoff. He probably would have won against Norton the first time if his jaw hadn't been broken early. He gave away too many rounds(he could have won) against Spinks with the rope-a-dope and inactivity. Against Holmes and Berbick, he was sick(early Parkinson's), off two years,and far past his prime. He definetely shouldn't have fought(and loss), at least, those last two fights.

Thirty freaking years ago. I watched this on TV for free. Back then everything was simpler and more confused. When the rematch came in September, Ali looked like he really had done the 100,000 sit ups he claimed to have, he was for maybe the last time magnificent. Spinks,and his baby brother Michael are an interesting footnote in boxing history. Ali may really have been the greatest.
