You'd have to be a heartless heathen not to appreciate the fact that this is one of humanity's greatest works of art ever. Screw the Illiad and Oddessey. You'd also have to be heartless not to cry, or at least sniffle, once during the game. I cried for ViVi, and I'm not ashamed to admit it.

I've had plenty of art classes, read tons of literature from all time periods and many cultures, been taught how to critique and appreciate art and literature, was a history major and have studied it extensively my whole life, hallmarks of art and literature are usually covered. Arts not specialty, more is unseen by me than seen, but FF9 is still better than most "Classics" I've ever encountered. People just don't count video games fairly as art, they're too new to people.

@CornerStoned420 I broke down intensely when Vivi's children walked into the screen. :) The ineffable quiescence of "Song of Memories" endowed me with a very indescribable feeling of grandeur. That was 4 years ago. I've replayed about 7 months ago, and for some unknown reason, I feel much, much more attached to the characters. I cried when Vivi's children walked in again, at Freya, at Beatrix's resignation, at Zidane's miraculous arrival... I swear if I hadn't stopped myself I would have barfed.
Not to mention we finally back to 4 person per team yay! And 8 character to chose from is nice imo. FF6 with 12 characters made me wanna cry when i grinding level zzzz
Well, i never think the game as creepy, instead i think they are cute! After FF7 and FF8 which has goddamn huge of character customization, finally FF9 which has the "traditional" character-specific skills. I'm kind of lazy person ahaha. And one of my favorite fantasy storyline.

I didnt think final fantasy 9 was creepy, i liked the style they wanted to try, plus it fits with the story. Final fantasy 9 was the best final fantasy for me, i cant say for everyone because everyone is different :)
The art style is called 'super deformed' and is a homage to 8 bit and 16 bit days when characters had to fit on a 8x8 or 16x16 tile square surface, and thus were drawn very squat and wide. They're not realistic, but they're not supposed to be. It's no more creepy than some of the CG movies we've seen lately.
I have played many games, including kingdom hearts which in my opinion has the deepest story of all time, but there is one thing it lacks, true attachment of characters and love. FF9 is the greatest game of all time because it defines that attachment of love, No other game can compare.
FF9 = King of FF's and King of all RPGs in it's generation and a true classic even for today. love FF9's music, story, characters and a big thnx to their creators. a masterpiece.
FF9, FF7, and Star Ocean 3 are the games that are tied for first place in my most favorite games ever. I think i can limit SO3 to 2nd, but FF9 and 7 are always gonna be tied for first.
After hearing the Distant Worlds version, with the orchestra and the beautiful singer, not sure if I like the Japanese version more...they're about the same haha....(I have the CD I haven't listened to it on youtube).
Just because it's different doesn't mean it's creepy.. final fantasy's characters look 100000 times creepier with their baseball bat arms and they're just as short as FF9's. Every old rpg had baby-looking sprites so why is it a surprise that they would be rendered with 3D graphics as homage to the style

Those three games gave me chills and I have so many memories with them. Final Fantasy X was very cool too. From that moment on it went downwards in my opinion because they concentrated on great graphics too much instead of gameplay and storyline. Still it's hard to say if it's THE BEST adventure.
I was surprised by some of the characters, the mage was in character, though the chef character was nothing short of bizarre. It looked like all little people because that was what they had to work with in graphics. Remember big changes came in 7, then 8 upped the level, then 9. Playstation 2 raised it again in FFX and FFX part 2 (which sucked), Then 12 which brought all new challenges, and finally FFXIII on playstation 3, where the graphics are incredible, but some of the essence was lost.
I've been playing final fantasy since it first came out on the nintendo, then moved to super nintendo, and then the big move to playstation. It's hard to believe that when 7 came out, it was such a huge deal with the big change in graphics. Now the graphics make 7 obsolete. Personally I think FFVIII was the best one done so far. The challenges, the puzzles, and the final castle. Nine lived up to it's potential, and it was more fantasy like it should have been

FF9 is not really creepy... but its appearance is disturbing and uncomfortable in the eyes. I do admit that the older FFs have a good and better amount of substance than the newer ones but hey, if they can return to their old way of making their plots, super good graphics+substance would be epic enough.

Squaresoft made fantastic games, and Final Fantasy IX, is, personally, their magnum opus. That game means my whole life to me, and I do mean exactly what I say. Without it, I wouldn't be the idealist I am today.

FF9 definately has the most interesting characters and places. After FF9 we've seen just dull looking characters, fields, cities and dungeons with no 'Fantasy' feeling in them (for example FFX and FFXII's star wars creatures..). FF9 also had a brilliant ending
Everyone has an opinion, on my side FF9 is the first FF game that I have played that took all of my interests and wits on completing it. I almost cry when I've finished it. I hope they make more of this full hearted games. Gamers like us feels it when the game has an unveiling full of heart into it.
IMO, I think the reason why Square made them small was to get the feeling that it's in another world, like you know, a complete fantasy. I think FF IX is one of the best unique FF series they ever made just for that reason.

uh, they're not in KH because they were only going to put in FF characters disigned by Nomura. Setzer and Vivi (from 6 and 9) are only in due to peer-pressure.
Nomura did character design for 7, 8, and 10 IIRC that's why those characters are in there.

@Tohmm The name change was because he was unable to stop the heartless from invading his home world, so in an effort to move on and atone for his failure, he renounced the name Squall and began going by Leon. This was explained in the KH games.

Nobou Uematsu truly is a god of music. Final Fantasy IX has the best music in the series but when it comes to game play and story I still think Final Fantasy VII cannot be beaten.
My guess on why there aren't any FFIX characters in kingdom hearts (except Vivi) is because tetsuya nomura never really worked on Ix

i have lot of experince and learned a lot:
1. cries(vivi saw his fellow black mages clone died, garnet's foster mom died)
2. hatred( kuja killing innocent lifes, killing alexander and using bahamut)
3. forgivance(when kuja's time is up he and zidane were together
4. romance ( Garnet's and Zidanes love affair)
5. and friendship (meeting the characters together and fighting to save terra).
in this game hope they make this ffs in the future

Those three games gave me chills and I have so many memories with them. Final Fantasy X was very cool too. From that moment on it went downwards in my opinion because they concentrated on great graphics too much instead of gameplay and storyline. Still it's hard to say if it's THE BEST adventure.

I was surprised by some of the characters, the mage was in character, though the chef character was nothing short of bizarre. It looked like all little people because that was what they had to work with in graphics. Remember big changes came in 7, then 8 upped the level, then 9. Playstation 2 raised it again in FFX and FFX part 2 (which sucked), Then 12 which brought all new challenges, and finally FFXIII on playstation 3, where the graphics are incredible, but some of the essence was lost.

I've been playing final fantasy since it first came out on the nintendo, then moved to super nintendo, and then the big move to playstation. It's hard to believe that when 7 came out, it was such a huge deal with the big change in graphics. Now the graphics make 7 obsolete. Personally I think FFVIII was the best one done so far. The challenges, the puzzles, and the final castle. Nine lived up to it's potential, and it was more fantasy like it should have been

I do admit that the older FFs have a good and better amount of substance than the newer ones but hey, if they can return to their old way of making their plots, super good graphics+substance would be epic enough.

@prongskee Thank you so much for pointing that information out. People play Crisis Core and claim that they've understood the genuine spirit of playing FF7. They've made a horrendously blatant mistake by saying so. There is a very stark distinction between Squaresoft and Square Enix.
Squaresoft made fantastic games, and Final Fantasy IX, is, personally, their magnum opus. That game means my whole life to me, and I do mean exactly what I say. Without it, I wouldn't be the idealist I am today.

Like i said, a lot of people dont even know Squall Leonhart, they only know Leon. And someone i know who i recommended to play FF 7 kept bugging me why Cloud didnt have a freakin wing.

FF9 definately has the most interesting characters and places. After FF9 we've seen just dull looking characters, fields, cities and dungeons with no 'Fantasy' feeling in them (for example FFX and FFXII's star wars creatures..). FF9 also had a brilliant ending

This game is simply amazing. The story is engaging, it's fun and serious at the times it needs to be. All the characters have extraordinary depth (mostly).

Yes, the characters have that "chibi thing" but I personally think It's ok and I like it.
Eiko and Vivi look like childs because they are, the rest of the characters fit well in their ages. Even Beatrix and Steiner.

uh, they're not in KH because they were only going to put in FF characters disigned by Nomura. Setzer and Vivi (from 6 and 9) are only in due to peer-pressure.
Nomura did character design for 7, 8, and 10 IIRC that's why those characters are in there.

@Tohmm The name change was because he was unable to stop the heartless from invading his home world, so in an effort to move on and atone for his failure, he renounced the name Squall and began going by Leon. This was explained in the KH games.
