@cobeoe pause at 6:47 look just to the right of the tie interceptor. The location of the second tie interceptor has been highlighted with a small explosion for your convenience. =P
And once again, tens of thousands of Imperials die clinging to each other in fear as their station collapses around them. Consider the vast number of people, the access to ships and bays throughout the Death Star, and the time and chaos aboard, chances are many of the people tried to get off the station. Yet we see no prisoners of war during the celebration on Endor. The horrifying conclusion is that the Rebel fleet targeted and destroyed craft carrying those fleeing a doomed station.
@andymac4883 If not for the fact that those handful of ships just faced a major engagement with a fleet well over 5 times their size. When nautical ships fight engagements with groups closer to their number, it was a pretty good bet that they needed some time at port for repairs before they were sea worthy. Considering that these are not only machines of war but also life support units against the vacuum of space, I don't think any more people than necessary are aboard during repairs.
Apparently at the time of this battle (well actually before too) that droid assassin IG-88 transfred itself into the death star became the death star therefore it had full control over it. When the death star fired that was IG-88 firing so he/it didn't blow his cover.
Apparently the droid has a sence of humor as it slamed a door shut on the emperor making him fall over.
What makes me laugh is that Lucas had access to a bigger budget and better special effects and he was unable to match any of the space battle sequences in the original films in those dreadful prequels.
@ChibiSmasher it makes perfect sense. The A-wing destroyed the command bridge, therefore the autopilot could no longer manage the Star Destroyer's thrust output to counteract the Death Star's gravitational pull, which is why they collided. What do you think would happen if the entire cockpit of a C-5 Galaxy stopped working? It doesn't even have to be the cockpit. One tiny loose screw can bring down an entire plane. It's not in the future, and it's not a boat.
What do you suppose would happen when we discover a real intergalactic civilization and join a galaxy spanning commonwealth? Will all of out science fiction media such as Star Wars and Star Trek disappear into the new science reality?
i can explain your tantrums:WHY the rebel fleet won the star destroyers????????
there in a star wars book where it says that the rebels where equipped with RAY SHIELDS, shields that can ONLY be bypassed by superlaser, like the death star or the eclipse
If it weren't for the fraking Ewoks this could have easily been one of the greatest battles in movie history. As it is, the space sequence is the highlight of the series in that regard, even better than the battle in Revenge of the Sith.
This is one the best movies of all time. Consider, how the special effects were made 30 years ago. The many months of stop motion photography that had to be made for only a few minutes of film wasn't easy. The people who made these movies deserve a lot of credit. I can only say this to those who make the negative comments of such excellent film making. If you think you can do better, then go out and take $100,000,000,000 and make your own God Damn Movie!
A moment of silence as we remember our beloved Emperor Palpatine of Naboo...The first Deathstar was the result of gross negligence on the part of the Grand Moff, the Second time was just a fluke...The Empire will return! On that day, we shall teach these rebel scum what it means to cross the Empire!
@TonyA6453 Yes, maybe a little simple, but I still like the look. The timing is very nice.
But I was always hoping, that Lucas would advance the first flight through the cluster of TIE-Fighters at 2.06. Groups of 6-8 Fighters are popping up, before they come closer.
@TonyA6453 Also the release of Compressed oxygen mixed with fuel and other combustables would instantly ignite and turn into said fire ball in space, although there is no oxygen and fire is obviously fuel by xygen, the split second the ship decompresses it will do exactly what Lucas has pictured, although his version is somewhat over dramatized it WILL infact do that. however the fire ball will quickly disperse in the oxygenless void of space
@dartheric All that, and also consider wtf a ship the size of the Executor used as a main reactor, gun batteries, TIE Fighter power cells etc that would also detonate once the ship's reac- ok, I'm over analysing this. :P
@brandondash I will never forget that he left Luke in the Battle of Yavin. Even with a crippled X-Wing he could have at least taken a shot or two to protect him, heck, he could have slammed on the brakes and crashed into Darth Vader!
Also it would have been much more interesting if Death star would have tried to turn it's firepower to Endor itself like in the book..I think if return of the jedi would have been exactly like in the book it would have been much better..
@vandurkan it's ok. The empire didn't collapse. It took years after for the New Republic to take Corusant. It's in the book. But this battle was significant because of the death of Vader and the Emperor. It began the internal degredation of the Empire that allowed the rebellion to win in the end.
@vandurkan yeah but the Empire loses half or their fleet, their leading ship, their ultimate weapon, their Emperor, Darth Vader, their admiral and hundred of thousand of men, including lots of leaders. It's pretty tough for a military force.
@TheShadowwolf88 it didnt. if you read the expanded universe novels, the empire struggles on for another 10 years or so until it is completely wiped out
@LithiumZ2 I was just commenting on the lack off logic in a star Empire off that size collapsing that easily!
As you said there where remnants or the Empire that lingered on for years that eventually was reformed into the ("Paleon dynasty) Empire that made peace with the Galactic Alliance!
the empire didn't go down all at once from this, but they lost their emperor, their superweapon, a buttload of troops, and the gajillions of credits it took to build 3/4 of a 900 kilometer space station.
@MrPier101 True but those numbers(resources was still high though) must be almost insignificant(except for losing the emperor)! Think galactic terms in numbers millions would be too small probably at least a billion maybe more in logical point of view!
@TheShadowwolf88 After the ROTJ and the death of Darth Vader and Palpatine, badass Grand Admiral Thrawn took over and made life very difficult for the rebellion.
Good battle but there was hardly any Rebel cruiser vs star destroyer battles and I didn't like how easilly Super Star destroyer was taken out. There wasn't any indication how dangerous it was..
@skycaprob I felt the same, but play that scene starting at 3:46 ... I paused at the last frame before the camera switched to the guy in the cockpit. Last few frames of that star Destroyer scene, there is a shadow towards the right. I think the camera simply was in front of the ...base of the top deck? I think, anyway.
