  • the great james burton, (from ricky nelson's band) in the clip on his fender telecaster guitar. in case you didn't know.one of the true legendary guitar gods.

  • would've loved to be around in those days!! Now that's music!!!!!!!!!

  • It'd be lovely if places like this still existed in every city...

  • Great stuff. The second song is called "The Only One" cant remember who did it. Used to cover it in the Rowdymen.

  • did anyone notice a very young james burton on guitar probably befor he even played with ricky nelson

  • Most rockabilly is too fast which is why many rockabilly cats barely move their feet while they do their turns. There are a few great exceptions like the Luster King from NY and the Rockin' Bones from MD. They both plays swing dances and understand the words "dance tempo".

  • come on baby, let's have some fun.

  • i remember when Bob Luman came onto the scene with RED CADILLAC AND A BLACK MUSTACHE.....then there was RED HOT......great entertainer

  • CARA MUITO SHOW OLHA QUEM ESTA TOCANDO GUITAR MISTER *JAMES BURTON* D+++++++++++++++++

  • there is nothing swing about this.

  • @nugun889 Except all the dancing. The couples in the video are dancing Lindy Hop (or early West Coast Swing). :-)

  • I just hate my generation if I watch this...

  • Hey...the lyrics are a 'bit racey' :-))) I'm 60 and I'm having a good time checking all this 'old stuff' out.... Thanks to ALL the folks that 'dig' the 50-60 stuff ....Peace (before the 60's revolution)

  • So great Bob Fish from Johnny & the Roccos showed me this clip

  • Yes. Type in carnival rock on YT and there it is! It's Luman and a very, very young J. Burton. Nostalgic, riveting and oddly hilarious! Thanx so much!

  • Pure rockabilly!

  • wo0w es increible esto me enkanta!!! es komo estar viendo fantasmas bailando es algo asombroso

  • Sure looks and sounds like a very young James Burton on lead guitar.

  • All the cool guitar is always the guy in back...

then the very cool piano....not shown at all...

How'd these guys get so good and still do their homework?

  • All the cool guitar is always the guy in back...

  • The dancers are Lindy Hoppers adapting their dance to rockabilly

    music.

  • The 7 people that rated this "dislike " don't know how to have fun!!!

  • Let's go dancing !!!

  • I SAID COME ON BABY LET'S HAVE SOME FUN

  • Wow! James Burton & Bob Luman are youngsters here...Luman went on to do a song called"Let's think about living" in the late 60's ...great video archive.

  • @Sublime999688

More like 1956, but I know what you mean.

  • THis is wonderful

    Rock Roll

  • Rockabilly Rules!!!!

  • The film clip and all the comments ooze Americana. Good stuff. Go cats go!

  • Indeed, from Carnival Rock," 1957. From Bob Luman website: In 1957, James was working on the Louisiana Hayride, a very well known radio show at the time. There he met Bob Luman. The band was called 'The Shadows' and consisted of James Burton on lead guitar, James Kirkland on bass and Butch White on drums. Together with Luman, they made a movie in Hollywood, "Carnival Rock." It was in Hollywood where Ricky Nelson first heard them rehearse and decided to hire them for his own band.

  • i swear this is spectacular !! id give it all up to be in that era

  • Anyone know what movie this is from?

  • i would pay to view this ( l0l )

  • thank you for this brilliant upload ! :)

  • James Burton is there!

  • Is that a young James Burton on lead guitar?

    Ken, Toronto

  • yep you are correct he was in dont knock the rock an some of the others. he looks like ronnie corbett lol

  • Im sure that jiver with the specs is on the clip from Dont Knock the Rock...must have been a group of jobbing pro jivers...i wonder what they are up to now.

  • Nice poster

  • Haley was around before ike Turner and his Delta cats.

  • Cool watching the old footage ... and this is still going on, so many years later.

  • definitley dig the tuneage real hep

  • this is bob luman and the shadows, if i remember correct from the film carnival rock

  • @bmxgeniesdad you are right there friend !

  • Great!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • texas stomp started rockabilly: listen to early Bill Haley music..........rockabilly was well on its way before SUN started releasing it. ITS ALL GOOD.....and im glad it happened the way it did....

  • And before that you had Ike Turner Band doing Rocket 88.

  • Bill Haley's accordion player Johnny Grande is one of my idols, but they were from Pennsylvania, weren't they? Maybe they wished they were from Texas. Funny world.

  • The Comets have been playing here in Branson for a few seasons. I understand that the show rocks.

  • wena wn la wea vieja escuela......

    iajaijaiaj

  • Um another good band that is a modern band that has a new feel is "Wild Turkey" their from Australia not bad! If anything they have a good beat to swing to!

  • Totally agree Im in high school in a small town evryone looks at me funny cuz i dress 50s but its worth it lol!!!!

  • but don't you get a kick at watching people's reactions? i love standing out :D

  • this is the real deal!!!

    dig it..

  • This isn't on the Hayride... it's from the movie Carnival Rock.

  • Its a 1950's low budget film and the music had just been invented of course the timings off...probably recorded in one take....but its recorded live, more than some artists can do today and who's the idoit comparing anything from the 50's to modern jive...man that sucks

  • Who are these guys?

  • The band is Bob Luman & the Shadows, performing on the tv show "Louisiana Hayride" in 1956. The guy on the smokin' electric guitar is the famous James Burton, who went on to play with Elvis Presley, Ricky Nelson, & other artists, & influenced many 60's rock guitarists.

  • James Burton on lead guitar folks...

  • You ain't kidding....before ricky nelson, no less.

  • This is good stuff. Wow. Wish we had swing clubs today.

  • We do... lol.

  • modern jive is alive and well i jive evry week at least once and im not alone

  • were u jive nothink round here

  • This is top notch stuff.

  • jack rabbit slim is a good group from England

  • i wish i was born in that era ..everything was so new and innocent ..im not rockabilly but ive always liked the way rockabillys dress and music never had the gutts to dress like one..i luv it

  • go for it... i started when i was14....not so much now as i'm 40 lol but everynow and again i get to tell the wife i'm going back to the 50's lol..she just rolls her eyes....today people are more liberal so it don't matter what you dress like..GO FOR IT lol

  • i just wish i could of been born during that time era

  • I know I would have been happy but then again I would miss the little things like tampons and good hair color and sharing a bed and bread makers. I do love all other things in that era aswell though, enjoy your day.

  • idiot! you should wish you were born 15 years before that era! if you were born during that era you wouldn't enjoy that culture & you would be a teenager during the beatles era.

  • anybody know any good rockabilly bands....i already know about ....stray cats, ofcourse and the polecats, reverend horton heat... any other good stuff out there

  • what you really want to get your hands on is the old Sun records where it started...but if your looking for the revival stuff like stray cats then you want to look up nervous records...excellent stuff, you cant go wrong. My dad gave me the taste for it and Im 20 and loving it more than the music today!

  • Essential rockabilly is Johnny Burnette and the rock and roll trio, MCA rare rockabilly collection with Don Woody, Johnny Horton, Billy Lee Riley,

Ray Campi...it's all i lsitened too whehn i first bought a guitar 35 yrs ago..and it wasn't new even then !!!

  • try these two ,the jime and a swedish band called the go getters singing no heart to spare

  • Check into the older stuff from back in the day. Joe Clay, Ronnie Dawson, Gene Vincent, Benny Joy, Dwight Pullen, Johnny Powers, Bob Luman, Johnny Carroll, Billy Lee Riley, Duane Eddy, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Burnette, Charlie Feathers, Carl Perkins, Wanda Jackson, Janis Martin, Barbara Pittman, Roy Orbison, and Jack Scott.

  • "anybody know any good rockabilly bands...."

Carl Perkins is pretty much the gold standard of rockabilly.

  • immortal!

  • Phenomenal!

  • yeah, Bob Luman, the second singer is David Houston. from the movie "Carnival Rock". Crappy movie, but a great scene :)

  • Dang,, Timing is off.. and it seems like they are strugglin to keep with the tempo..but not a Bad try tho,, they got SOME rhythm lol

  • Comment removed
