Then comes the wheel-chair stage, and after that, the kill-or-cure, dangerous surgery Jack insists on so he'll walk again. 18 months after that, he's out at the Abbott poolside sexually baiting stepmommy Jill in a pair of Speedos, not a mark on him. That's soaps for ya, folks.

Terry Lester came to the Y&R in 1980 when CBS' "DALLAS" was #1 in the rating. They Called Lester's "Jack Abbott" the J.R. Ewing of daytime, W/ Terry you just loved to hate him. Its a sad he died so young in '03. I just started watching the Y&R Again last couple of weeks. Its the best daytime show on tv. I hope they never cancel it like they did ATWT and Guiding light. Does anyone know why they think the actress who plays ashley is really a man in real life that's the rumor I seen on google.

There is nothing that suggests that Eileen ever was a man. And this is something that got settled when Elieen and Eric Braeden appeared on Phil Donahue several years ago and they set the record straight.

A lot of shit went down way before this period. That's how I decide on whether I want to watch a new show: checking into fabulous history to see who did what to who and how this person has gone, general connections

Lilibet Stern was adorable as Patty. She quit acting and became a nurse in MA. But Tammy Taylor was the first Patty and played a teenage Hope on Days. Andrea Evans was good but she certainly wasn't Patty (as nice). I kinda of knew MJ Benson was Patty because when she was in bandages she told Victor she never flew on a private jet and Diane flew on one and I guess their is no more stories for Diane to come back

The whole current (June 2009) Mary Jane storyline is totally LAME! Patty is small, pudgy and blonde. The "new" Patty Williams is very tall, skinny, and brunette.

just go to wikipedia and read the storyline with Patty...thats what i did! Point blank, Patty was obsessed with Jack. Got pregnant..then got married. then eventualy got a miscarrige bc she she tripped at jabot (witnessing Jack & Diane making out/sex)..after from that point Jack didnt want anything to do with her..so she went to Jabot with a gun and tried to kill Jack. He survived 3 bullets to the chest. and she left town after divorcing him

..Shes a nutcase.

absolutely NOT the story. Wikipedia is written by fans, no experts. And I watched this story unfold in real time. Patty was a sweet, naive girl who was having a budding relationship with nice-guy Danny. Then Jack swept in for a fling, but (I forget why) married her. She DID become paranoid later but he was really crappy to her. Emotional abuse. Lilibet's Patty was better, even though not a great actress, she did well within the role. As much as I loved Andrea as Tina, bust as Patty

I think Jack only married Patty so he could get The Vice Presidency of Jabot Cosmetics. Also, Jack cheated on Patty with Diane Jenkins who became a Model/Architect as well as one of Victor's Ex-Wives. Poor thing, she never got over what happened to her.

yes-that's exactly right. His father wanted him to grow up, so the "fling" he was having had to become a real thing--engaged, married--to Patty. So, Patty was the heroine throughout this story because Jack was a dog. Terry Lester perfectly balanced Jack's bad traits with a likeability--who could ever not like Jack. We saw his torment over his mother, Dina leaving. I wish Lilibet had finished the Patty story before leaving.

Jack was dating Jill in 1981 when John had left town. He originally dated Patti to spite Jill who wasn't sure she wanted a serious relationship. Then he found out about her son Phillip and accused her of being a gold digger and dumped her, Patti was in love with Jack, but as was stated Jack only remained with Patti to save face.

@SoapsGoldenAge Yeah well then you would also know that before Andrea's Tina left, Jack had helped Patty recall the drama that got her to shoot Jack 5 times(rightfully I'd say) in therapy(which Patty forgot shortly afterwards and miscarried) she remembered and the two decided that they were even, she signed the divorce papers and took off for parts unknown.

Right, "Jack and Diane" sure was playing. Patty did see them together, in Jack's office, but she couldn't tell it was Diane that he was with. She turned and ran and fell, losing their baby as a result.
