  • awesome!

  • Guys, cut @AmishCake some slack. The internet wasn't advanced back in 2007.

  • @orangebhuddy29 It's not that - I had an old VCR that was not stereo-equipped and had to convert a video tape to digital with a video capture card. It is what it is...

  • @AmishCake yeah i figured since Montreal Olympics were in 1976

  • Artist: Asia

    ^ What the heck?

  • Thanks for the upload, ignore all these spoilt ingrates.

  • Well done.

  • queen sampled the song!!

  • who the hell can ever remember this?I ask you..you gotta be old..hmm.

  • @713nova we're only as old as we want to feel.

  • nerd teen me cauhgt this video on tv in 70s

and now at age 52 surfing youtube music while wasted on wine....

  • Love it - thank you

  • ESTE ES EL TEMA DE GATIVIDEO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • What is the big O now? Expos moved, Als moved, heck even ELP found better places to play! Cheers!

  • The opening trumpet sequence makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck every time I hear it. It's an unbelievably good rendition of the piece in my opinion. Heroic and life affirming.

  • May They Smoke the Ring's Of Pirats!!!

  • Ah, the GX-1 :D

  • This sounds very Floydian. Coincidence this venue happened to be where Waters spat on a fan?

  • Best Music Ever

  • Jimmy The King

  • They played here and sold out the show, that massive stadium. This was shot during the day before the show.

  • ave

la video en noir et Blanc était bien meilleure !

  • Why did they take down the original, full version?

    I can't find it anywhere.

  • I remember this on the ABC (Australia) as a kid when they needed a "filler" for a few minutes during the days. Ah, the memories of a simpler time.

  • @wahroonga11 you got that 100% right mate!!!

  • @wahroonga11

Channel 7 used to use it to for their sports programs (espically the V8 Supercars/Australian Touring Car Championship)

  • ah memories of reporting scotland and mary marquis with those blouses with huge lapels

  • @mgmaestroefi You're not alone - I've the same memories!

  • Mono! That's cool

  • Ah, memories of opening ceremony on BBC of Montreal Olympics. Nice. :-)

  • For years I have heard this song and never knew who performed it. Glad to finally know.

  • @Wayavas1337 Yes, here, let me jump right up and fix this RIGHT AWAY, because I always take orders from internet jerks who hurl obscenities at me.

  • @AmishCake thanks for this - ages since I've heard it.

  • @AmishCake well someone uploaded a decent version to youtube with left and right sound. /watch?v=OgpnlLz7WR0

  • Comment removed

  • @volound Hmmm....I think I will go ahead and leave it here, as it seems to have the bonus effect of annoying internet jerks.

  • @AmishCake absolutely great, glad this is up here

  • @volound leave the guy alone and give him a chance. Stop making a cunt of yourself in public!!!.....wheres your fucking video of it all? you probably can't even use the toilet properly let alone use a fucking computer you nasty cunt!!!

  • @ledzeplad i did give him a chance. vapid comment.

  • @Wayavas1337 lol

  • @Wayavas1337 you are right, but don't be a troll. bye-bye

  • @Wayavas1337 well fuck off and go and watch the other videos then you cunt, or upload it yourself, fucking maggot

  • Greg Lake looks like Roddy Piper.

  • I found a fuller version on another site. Apparently Copeland was "delighted" with the ELP version. I bet that would upset a few purists :-)))

  • Yeah, the full version goes into a heavy Keith Emerson solo. I love it but it might just be my age showing. Still have the original on vinyl (oops! given too much away!)

  • This has been a 7 Sport production

  • This should be the song of the first unveiling of anti gravity!

  • full version?

  • THIS is the best version of Fanfare by ELP on youtube...too bad the VOLUME is so low compared with all other videos!

  • used 2 watch full version on video hits early 80s at around 3 am cant find any thing else now

  • love listeing to elp on headphones a full volume blows your mind

  • This video was the first on the "Rock Aids Armenia" video tape

  • I remember this - vaguely. I remember hearing ELP's version of this somehow associated with the Montreal Olympics, and I remember thinking, "Far out! Ya mean classical type music can be made awesome? WOW!" I was nine at the time, and absolutely in love with prog. Next came Rush... a different approach to prog, but wow just the same!

  • This single is available on ELP's "Works, Volume I" album.

  • In what studio album can I find this track?

  • Can anyone get the full version of this performance?? It's the best one.

  • @AmishCake Love the song and Video but could you at least upload this version that works with both right and left speakers.

  • my poop stinks too?

  • Have a listen to Amazonne from Wales. If you like crossover fusion of symphonic, folk and metal, you'll love it.

  • awwwwww nobody came :'( lolololololol

  • This great Copeland composition was also used as the theme for "CBS SPORTS SPECTACULAR" IN 1977 and as well was used as posing music by the late Mike Mentzer (Mr Universe) and I believe Frank Zane(Mr Olympia) as well

    It always inspired me

  • If Aaron Copland were alive today, he would be a very proud man.

And why in hell is ELP NOT in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame?

  • @michaeltenenbaum1

well somebody nominated them but the nomination was about 30 minutes longer than needed and the decision committee stopped listening about half way through.

  • Due to this song I became interested in ELP.

  • Surreal that it was filmed in Winter,Yet was in the charts in July 77!

  • Este foi o tema de abertura da Fórmula 1 . Há quem se lembre dele ainda? Abraços...

  • Music industry STOPPED producing great groups like ELP a couple of decades ago.....

  • what's truly fun is to watch Carl exhale visibly -the whole aspect of limb independence resolved to breathing is totally evident here (exhale on the and's…)

  • Wankers.

  • @MrPopliphaha one of them did your girlfriend, right?

  • elp great!

  • elp rocked

  • working class hero's !!!! what better apt for everyday people

  • bloody fantastic ! thank you for reminding me why i was such a huge elp fan as a kid !

  • I FINALLY FOUND some TEENAGE Carl Palmer! Great Footage of him with Arthur Brown! It wasn't even labeled properly!

    you tube. com / watch?v=3FmVM6rfTKk

  • Was this in a concert? If so I feel very sad.

  • ESTO ES... DEPORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRTV!! XD

  • Makes me happy to be a common man.

  • @scottb3034 me as well , sometimes i am very common indead . so my wife keeps telling me anyway !

  • A Yamaha keyboard??? I would have never thought that professionals would use that brand...

  • @Forsure3333 ... That's not just any keyboard ... that's the Yamaha GX1 ... there is one for sale on the net but i doubt the person would consider taking less than 3 or 4 hundred thousand for it ... (yea ... $300,000.00 - $400,000.00 ... then again perhaps they will consider less ...)

  • @Forsure3333 HAHAHAHAHAHA YOU ARE FUNNY

  • @Forsure3333 Professionals wouldn't use Yamaha??? Yamaha only made the biggest selling pro music synthesizer of all time, the DX7 that absolutely defined and dominated popular music for an entire decade! They also made Elton John's piano but I suppose he isn't a professional. The Yamaha Electone GX-1 organ/synthesizer Keith is playing would have cost about $50,000 in 1975 and literally weighed a ton. That's no home keyboard for granny to play along to Lawrence Welk.

  • playing to another sell-out crowd ... ooops. Damn booking agent got them there the wrong night ...

  • @FlametopFred lol good one. thats all, sorry to waste your time

  • agh this audio has something wrong with it its only coming out of one side

  • Epic fanfare!

  • ELP - real musicians, performing an anthem!

  • J'aime cette puissance, ça te fait sentir grand comme on devrait être vraiment :-)

  • honestly i prefer the asia one from the reunion

  • Poorman song is very nice. ,-)) I remember, hmmm? 1976 Montreal ....

  • Very ,very very excellent..........oh, just shooting pigeons and practicing for tonights show...........

  • Canada is in my heart. A Brit .x

  • The keyboard keith is playing is a yamaha gx1..it cost in 1973 dollars 60,000 the one you see here being played was sold to hans zimmer.

  • Isn't this the most famous version of them doing this track?

  • FFTCM, as one of Copeland's 20th-century program music (Romantic era influence) definitively gained from the addition of the rock beat by way of ELP. The true sensuality of the common man/woman gets its mega-rock fanfare via ELP. IMHO, that is what we rock-steers a roll-steers love most about the ELP variations. Perhaps that was the source of Maestro Copeland appreciation for the ELP variation. Would have loved to see that meeting: Copeland and ELP.

  • PLEASE ANSWER!

Does Carl Palmer just uses wrist?

I went to a show and he didn't use the finger AT ALL.

  • @Timzurita020196 "AT ALL"? were you sitting on the stage? of course he uses plenty of wrist. You can't play with such fluidity by swingin your arms up & down like a monkey. U asked this on a different elp vid also. I'm suprised you havn't gotten an answer to a silly question. check out "carl palmer snare demo" on Y.T...

  • This is trivia but US pilots got Sunglasses like that during WW2 and they became popular to the baby boomer kids -their children.

  • @tjrtherocksponge It's well known that the damn thing was never built to code, as well as questionable construction methods. The next time a chunk of the "Big Owe" people will realize it's time to take the whole thing down before it's too late.

  • Great tune.

  • what stadium is this?

  • @Defender78

It´s the Montreal Olympic Stadium. Main site of the XXIst Olympiad between July and August 1976

  • yamaha gx-1

  • Does any one know what type of keyboard that is that Keith is using?

  • Probably the steadiest time that Carl has kept.

  • @PeterMayer yeah although he;s all over the place on pirates!

  • @blobo123 But in all fairness, he fit in with ELP. He was just what they needed.

  • The BBC Used this music to introduce the Queen's Silver Jubilee

  • Aaron Copelands reason for writing this piece of music is truly inspiring. He wrote it for ordinary people, the common man. Not for soldiers, or people of high station but for the common man. I like that. It is worthy of greatness. A beautiful gem sometimes forgotten.

  • Comment removed

  • Dude on the Yamaha looks like one of the Gallagher Brothers ,,,,,,,,,

  • ASIA did it better

  • montreal olympic stadium

  • Keep your fingers crossed. Keith is undergoing colon surgery... C'mon Keith! On your feet, soldier! All the best

  • That was great stuff I bleieve tyat was in Montreal huh! that was music the music of today is really garbage, take care everyone! and bless you!!

  • how did they even play that night? they must have been freezing?? Seeing their breath and its the middle of the day???

  • @MrBluremi The concert was done in the summer and they just filmed the video there only and probably figured it looked cool with the snow

  • Smokin!

    These guys are Magical!

  • Yes. this is the Big "O" in Montreal (or the big "OWE" if you lived in Montreal after the Olympics.) One of the great bands with such talent. My favourite band in the late 70's.

  • Appears to be a rehearsal prior to the show that was to become ELP's greatest live album. I'm quite sure the venue is The Big O aka Montreal Olympic Stadium which did not have a roof at the time.

  • @Mrkarl63 Yep, that is Olympic Stadium, you can see the Olympic rings on the scoreboard, the retractable roof didn't come until a few years later was because the Expos moved in there after the Olympics.

  • Uncommon.

  • esto es.... de-por-tv...!

  • Hey Luke - Way to butcher the spelling of Copland. Well Done!

  • This so cool !!!

  • great song to wake up to in the morning

  • prefering live faster version

  • man, this is cool.

  • This is from an album they did called 'the works album'. If you have time buy it. I have a vinyl copy at home.

    Enjoy

  • Way to butcher Aaron Copeland

  • @luke55698 He actually approved...

  • heroic sounds

  • i did now know that ELP did it

  • Very cool.

  • Brilliant video. Seems spooky to see any Olympic Stadium covered in snow, lol. In your mind you always associate the Olympics with hot summer. Mind you, London's stadium will probably be snowbound during the Games!

  • really dreadfull stuff. totally dire!

  • Cool video, thanks for posting this.

  • This is just like a German youth orchestra version. I don't know who did it first. That version is also here at YouTube.

  • God bless Mr Copeland nice tune..oh and Dr Moog !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • still a dugskin when listen to this great stuff..

  • Muito Bom

    ELP

    Emerson

    Lake

    and........

    Palmer

    Muito Bom

  • was this captured during a sound check? also, ifeel like Bob Costas should be doing sports highlights when i hear this song...lol.

  • @rowdymax1

What you hear is the original recording, what you see ist Emerson, Lake and Palmer posing to the playback

  • man that looks bloody cold there.I brought this on a 45 record when i was a little kid. Thanks for the upload, matey all the best from Sydney.

  • ASIA, IS NAME OF THE BAND

  • @luxtondave HA!!! Thumbed you down for being stupid, BITCH!!

  • @luxtondave

    Oh, my God....

  • The only thing I don't like about this song is the memory burned into my brain from hearing this as Channel 7's (Aust TV) sports theme for so many years, but I do hate to admit it worked well. This is such cool song on so many levels, awesome 70's prog cheese, sweet riff underneath and such a visual song.

  • @j516710003 .....It was Channel 4, with Fred Roggin. Played during the sports wrap up...

  • @AvirtualSwitzerland I was talking about its use on Australian television.

  • @j516710003 .....I might be wrong. Now that I think of it, it was used in GEORGE MICHAEL'S SPORTS MACHINE on NBC during the "scores/results portion.

  • The part at 1:07 sounds like the theme to the Patrick Swayze/Charlie Sheen flick "Red Dawn." Plagiarism is the ultimate flattery.

  • Who would have known that ELP would do remix before anyone though of the term Eh? Go Figure

  • After the Montreal concert, we good people saw them in Denver, Colorado! I was 18 years old! One of the very best concerts that I ever saw!!!

  • I think this footage was from "Emerson Lake and Palmer in concert", a live concert circa 1978. I cannot see the details of this film listed on the IMDB.

  • @doire1962 it was before the 76 Montreal Olympic games ,the stadium looks finished ,so circa late 75 early 76

  • Why does it say this is Asia?

  • @smartlamppost

Don't know, but I will try to fix it.

  • @AmishCake Ok, sweet

  • @AmishCake - you can't fix it, youtube's servers have 'matched' this sound to Asia for their itunesamazon popup ads. Those ads are at least a sign a vid is accepted as advertising & won't be pulled!

  • @smartlamppost cos I think that's the name of their record label

  • @smartlamppost

maybe cause the drummer was a member of the band ASIA and the used to performed live this too.

  • @smartlamppost

because Carl Palmer was also in Asia and they have performed it live YouTube is probably getting confused and putting the wrong ad.

  • @smartlamppost probably becuase of Carl Palmer...they mixed up bands.

  • @smartlamppost Because thats an ad for the band Asia..and their version of this song.

  • @smartlamppost asia palys this on there current tour , its the elp cut , so thats why it may direct it there , elp recorded this in 1974 , so like everything else , the orignal gets lost , the asia version belive it or not is killer , live in sweden , i tunes , steve howe , geoff downes have wicked exchange

  • I remember them as being all blurry back in the day too. We had a really tv set at our house.

  • todo un himno,te invita a soñar,saludos

  • I saw Emerson & Lake last night in Milwaukee Wi. It was amazing. To see them in a 500 seat theater and not an 80,000 seat stadium was stunning. They even took questions from the concert goers.

  • those of us who lived through the hight of prog will never forget nor leave behind the music or its memory... im still enjoying this stuff 40 years on... i doubt todays music will endure much beyond this month...pity the youth of today and the crap that calls itself music...

  • I always thought Carl could've used a liiiiiiiitle more cowbell!! ; D

  • ELP's music will last forever. That stadium, however, will come crashing down in another decade. The damn thing cost $1 billion in 1976 and its held together with epoxy cement. Better to take a wrecking ball to the thing right now.

  • ! Maravilloso, Bellisimo, aahh ¡
