@orangebhuddy29 It's not that - I had an old VCR that was not stereo-equipped and had to convert a video tape to digital with a video capture card. It is what it is...
The opening trumpet sequence makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck every time I hear it. It's an unbelievably good rendition of the piece in my opinion. Heroic and life affirming.
Emerson, Lake and Palmer not only freeze their asses off, they LIP SYNC! A new low! The other low was their "Love Beach" album...you know, jumping on the Disco bandwagon. God, for the love of money. internationaldave@gmail.com
@volound leave the guy alone and give him a chance. Stop making a cunt of yourself in public!!!.....wheres your fucking video of it all? you probably can't even use the toilet properly let alone use a fucking computer you nasty cunt!!!
Yeah, the full version goes into a heavy Keith Emerson solo. I love it but it might just be my age showing. Still have the original on vinyl (oops! given too much away!)
I remember this - vaguely. I remember hearing ELP's version of this somehow associated with the Montreal Olympics, and I remember thinking, "Far out! Ya mean classical type music can be made awesome? WOW!" I was nine at the time, and absolutely in love with prog. Next came Rush... a different approach to prog, but wow just the same!
This great Copland composition was also used as the theme for "CBS SPORTS SPECTACULAR" IN 1977 and as well was used as posing music by the late Mike Mentzer (Mr Universe) and I believe Frank Zane(Mr Olympia) as well

well somebody nominated them but the nomination was about 30 minutes longer than needed and the decision committee stopped listening about half way through.
what's truly fun is to watch Carl exhale visibly -the whole aspect of limb independence resolved to breathing is totally evident here (exhale on the and's…)
@Forsure3333 ... That's not just any keyboard ... that's the Yamaha GX1 ... there is one for sale on the net but i doubt the person would consider taking less than 3 or 4 hundred thousand for it ... (yea ... $300,000.00 - $400,000.00 ... then again perhaps they will consider less ...)
@Forsure3333 Professionals wouldn't use Yamaha??? Yamaha only made the biggest selling pro music synthesizer of all time, the DX7 that absolutely defined and dominated popular music for an entire decade! They also made Elton John's piano but I suppose he isn't a professional. The Yamaha Electone GX-1 organ/synthesizer Keith is playing would have cost about $50,000 in 1975 and literally weighed a ton. That's no home keyboard for granny to play along to Lawrence Welk.
FFTCM, as one of Copeland's 20th-century program music (Romantic era influence) definitively gained from the addition of the rock beat by way of ELP. @tjrtherocksponge It's well known that the damn thing was never built to code, as well as questionable construction methods. The next time a chunk of the "Big Owe" people will realize it's time to take the whole thing down before it's too late.
Aaron Copelands reason for writing this piece of music is truly inspiring. He wrote it for ordinary people, the common man. Not for soldiers, or people of high station but for the common man. I like that. It is worthy of greatness. A beautiful gem sometimes forgotten.
Yes. this is the Big "O" in Montreal (or the big "OWE" if you lived in Montreal after the Olympics.) One of the great bands with such talent. My favourite band in the late 70's.
Appears to be a rehearsal prior to the show that was to become ELP's greatest live album. I'm quite sure the venue is The Big O aka Montreal Olympic Stadium which did not have a roof at the time.
@Mrkarl63 Yep, that is Olympic Stadium, you can see the Olympic rings on the scoreboard, the retractable roof didn't come until a few years later was because the Expos moved in there after the Olympics.
Brilliant video. Seems spooky to see any Olympic Stadium covered in snow, lol. In your mind you always associate the Olympics with hot summer. Mind you, London's stadium will probably be snowbound during the Games!
The only thing I don't like about this song is the memory burned into my brain from hearing this as Channel 7's (Aust TV) sports theme for so many years, but I do hate to admit it worked well.
