federal q's sound cool, but in NYC they don't do much good. Emergency vehicles are only going to go as far and fast as traffic allows, and in larger cities with heavy traffic, bumping an electronic siren will do as much good as riding a Q, with alot less confusion from echoes and less inate hearing damage from the general public.
@FDNYresponsechannel You are both right. Certain FDNY apparatus does have a real Q2B siren, while all of the newer pieces of apparatus have the EQ2B. At times you will hear a real Q but not too often because like you said they are "banned" because of the fact they can and have caused hearing damage.
@FDNYresponsechannel Rescue 4 was the only rescue with a real Q but that is no longer now since all of the rescues are now Ferrara's with EQ2Bs. Same with almost all of the engines and truck companies. If the rig has been switched to the new Ferraras or the Seagrave Maurader, then no real Q is present, just an EQ2B. So you might find some reserve apparatus with a real one but the odds are slim.

I understand why FDNY has the siren they do, but if some of their ladder trucks can have the q, why cant they all? Doesn't really add up to me.
loonlaker67 3 months ago
@loonlaker67 The ones that have a Q are older ones. The newer models arent made with them.

The second one had an eq2b but didnt have the federal "F" on the grill of the speaker.

Oh and just letting you know, the video that jazzbutter said to watch "fdny ladder 56 & division 7", Ladder 56 is using a real Q at that point.

we r both talking about the ladder (TRUCK) rite? cause that is a q
25Yankeesfan 1 year ago
@25Yankeesfan FDNY isnt allowed to use a Q for the simple fact that the echo from all the buildings can damage peoples ears.

@FDNYresponsechannel Check this clip out: "fdny ladder 56 & division 7".

@25Yankeesfan they have real q's man...
iSwaggerify 8 months ago
@iSwaggerify FDNY DOES NOT have Qs. They have EQs. With all the buildings a Q would echo to a point where ear damage is and issue.
