Easiest way to do it is use note cards-a lot of them are similar-if you remember that "ate" is bigger than "ite" the one with the larger number is always ate-and this applies to all of them(I think there are 4 ions with ate/ite). Some of the other ones like acetate and ammonium just need to be memorized. Try to do all the ones that actually look like the name and then do all the ones that have nothing to do with the ions by themselves and then put them together and go through them several times.
