  • this is a pretty song go johnny

  • anyone know where i can get this song? mp3... or record/cd? rshal@yahoo.com hey thanks

  • What a shame he's not Country Music Hall of Fame.... Johnny Paycheck is what country music is all about. R.I.P Johnny..You have a lot of fans who still loves to hear you sing! I know I do @}}----

  • Johnny Was one of countrys outlaws . Yes he was so underrated .

    R.I.P. Johnny . I still listen to you .

  • Johnny Paycheck is so underrated... He stands right up thier with the GREATS of Country Music. His name should be right up thier with George Jones, Johnny Cash, Waylon, Willie, but he is rarely mentioned in the same breath. He is a true legend, and a soulful singer. The man wasn't even a member of the Opry until 1997, and he's STILL not a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame. If you read this comment, & feel the same way- Go sign the Johnny Paycheck CMHOF petition circulating the internet

  • Ive posted here recently but I just had to come back to say , dont we all just love good, true, from the heart, real country music that makes you emotional when you listen to it, joy tears in the eyes with a hint of sadness knowing we will never see or hear their like again.

    Alan , England. UK.

  • COUNTRY MUSIC DOESN'T GET BETTER THAN THIS. Great great voice, great great pedal steel player , anyone notice the rest of the band? Lead guitar, bass, minimal drums oh just beautiful backing , sad we dont get this anymore just thank goodness for videos.

  • @pedalman Agreed! I just read that Johnny Paycheck played steel also. Do you know the steel in this vid?

  • @pitol678 Hi. Johnny did play pedal steel and to a very competent level, the steel player on this video is one of the greats, Hal Rugg who sadly died a couple or three years ago after a long illness with cancer .

He was one of the top session men in the late 60s thro 70 80s who made the pedal steel guitar sounds that poured out of Nashville . Its worth putting a search in for him 'cos hes mentioned in lots of vids with Loretta Lynn , Wilburn Brothers etc.

  • @pedalman hey thanks for the info! You sound very knowledgeable so I have another question if I may. Do you know who played steel on George Jones' "I am what I am?" Ive looked but cant seem to find it. Great playing on that record-just beautiful.

  • @pitol678 Hi again , The 1980 George Jones " I am what I am " album was on epic records and the producer was Billy Sherill ....He used Pete Drake on pedal steel on ALL of his sessions so if you see an epic label release with Sherill as producer its Pete Drake on steel.

Pete did Charley Rich's stuff and paycheck stuff when with Epic . Pete Drake died in july 1988, he was ill in his last years and did less recording but I would say it was him but Ill check up to make sure.

  • @pitol678 Yes, Pete Drake on pedal steel did the george Jones "I am what I am" album ......as soon as I saw the song list I remembered the steel sound unmistakably the Pete Drake sound.

  • Definitely one of the great country singers ever to live.

  • The late "Hal Rugg" on steel-what a swell guy & picker he was ..Him, Green, Myrick made the Nashville sound!! Joe in Vegas

  • Johnny Paycheck. Ça, c'est du country! Un vrai de vrai. Pour ceux qui ont aimé "Crazy Heart" avec Jeff Bridges...

  • This should have been RATED 5x555555555000000,,FABULOUS TALENT!!!

  • We miss you Johnny ...

  • One of the great ones!

  • Beautiful Pedal steel playing by Hal Rugg. Thanks so much for posting this video

    RC

  • Johnny Paycheck is still the best. No one can sing like him.

    RIP JOHNNY!

  • Too bad towards the end, he ended up in so much trouble and then ended up dying as he was such a good singer!

  • Wow !!! Too good !! What a blessing ,that voice is pure bliss.

Thank you so much for a perfect 100.

  • What a song..And only paycheck could have done it that well. Great performer..

  • @shiftedx2 youre a worthless fuck.

  • Thats terrible of you to say that!

  • I think it was earlier than '77, either way a great video. A true master.

  • 1979

  • A real talent... George Jones said , he was a great musician

  • A true legend, everything he sang is about as perfect as it gets!!!!

  • One of the most soulful Country Music singers of our time and yet he is not in The Country Music Hall of Fame.

  • @CajunTroubadours Yeah, not on the hall of fame ....what a travesty ! What you have to remember about the Nashville mentality is it was very holyer than thou', if you were a "bad boy" in their eyes you had no chance.

Look at George and Tammy .....they never won the CMA award for best country duet !!! but they couldnt find a good enough excuse to omit George from the hall of fame 'cos he is a legend .

Johnny should be placed in the hall of fame posthumously and immediately .

  • Does anyone know what year this was from?

  • 1977

  • Thanks, Erich

  • looks like 72 or 73

  • Wow, what a GREAT video! Thanks SO much for uploading this one.

Oh, and anybody rating this one at less than 5 stars is a delinquent!!

  • This is one of my favorite Johnny Paycheck songs. And now to see a live performance is pure heaven. Paycheck was really young in this one.

Erich, thanks for turning me onto this. You know how much I love this song and you never get to hear it. And thanks ss73 for posting this gem. --Jan

  • You told me about it, back in the days when my orig channel was still up.

  • I remember very well, Erich. I was grateful to you then and am grateful now for sending me this video. Believe me, if there's one thing I don't forget, it's a favor on a favorite Paycheck song. --Jan

  • I love this one!!

I love steel guitar music :)

Thank you for sharing ss73ss &

thank you Eric, I find this one your wall :)

  • ;-) It was great when Country music was all about steel guitars.

  • Some idiot did give this less than a 5*****,.definitely delinquent, and guilty of no taste. This is a 100-star video.

Do you or ss73ss by any chance have Paycheck doing "That's What the Outlaws in Texas Wanna Hear"? Thanks.

  • Yeah, an idiot! BTW, thanks for your comments, Jan. I think I sent you the mp3 of this one back in 07- Anyway, I'd love if someone could re-upload Johnny's "I Did The Right Thing".

  • You did. :o) I still listen to it. That's why I was so totally in heaven finding this live performance.

  • Don't have that one I'm afraid but I've got 11 months and 29 days from the same show. I'll upload it shortly.

  • Thanks ss73ss. You've got great videos and I thank you for all of them - past and future.
