  • fantastic vide, I had to sit through many on here prior to learning how to do this right through you instruction! Just one question, I did all the steps and now have the "Al gore" on top of the 2nd picture but can't move it or re-size, I try to put a box around to drag the corners but it wouldn't let me do that. Please advise, thanks so much!

  • @LilyNy111 When you paste the selection on top of another image, you then choose the move tool, and make sure 'show bounding box' is checked in the menu below the top tool bar and above the image. When show bounding box is enabled, you'll be able to move and resize the pasted image.

  • Super...I have been trying to do thios for months!!!! Great training THANK YOU!

  • I have adobe photoshop cs5.1 but i cant find the magic extractor

  • @mrDJstoon The Magic Extractor tool is in PhotoShop Elements. In Photoshop CS, it is found under 'filters', and is called the 'extract filter'

  • Now this is a tutorial! Rare isn't it! Someone CAPABLE! Thank you VERY MIUCH!

  • Did u have to use Al Gore? Geesh!

  • Oh thank GOD!! I've been struggling with this! THANK YOU!!! Now my tin can is floating in outer space!

  • great information, thank you

  • You can also extract an image by using the quick selection tool and then copying and pasting it to where you want it..... i find the quick selection tool is alot easier , faster and makes more clean lines than the magic extractor tool..

  • what features, or tools, etc., does Photoshop CS5 have that Photoshop Elements 9 doesn't?

  • great but the cut is crude is there something you can use to make it more perfect?

  • @pamperedpotato You could make it more perfect by spending just a bit more time working with the magic extractor tool than I did in this short video

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I spent almost two hours last night wracking my brain trying to figure this out.

  • It seems easy, but it still would be a crude cut unless I went in and just used the selection brush tool.

  • Nice tutorial! Did anyone ever tell you that you sound a bit like Al Gore?

  • Awesome. Adobe Photoshop is pretty easier though.

  • Im new to Photoshop.

I just bought Photoshop Elements and i dont know how to install brushes.

can someone please help me out. :P

  • I like your clear, to-the-point tutorials Bill! Before coming to yours I went to one covering the same topic that was nine minutes long! You save me a lot of time.

  • I wonder why people insist to use the standard version of photoshop for simple tasks as this one. Good tutorial.

  • This helped me TREMENDOUSLY. Elements is all I'll ever need. THANK YOU!!!!!

  • Oh My God I am Photoshopping.

This is the most awesome tutorial ever!

    THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!

  • Thank you sooooo much!!! I needed help doing this! Great Tutorial!

  • thx that is awesome

  • jus wot i needed 2no

  • Thanx Bill!

  • Great Video.......LMFAO!!!!! Perfect examples......used car salesman....I'm still laughing.

  • Excellent video. You provided just the information I was looking for quickly & clearly. Many, many thanks.

  • THANK YOU VERY MUCH! this is exactly what I was looking for! I'm by no means en expert and I needed to edit some images! Be safe!

  • how do u clean the background..i mean to take out the image i dont want in the background

  • Bill, thanks for the great tutorial! I am still having some trouble with my project. I have a photo of my family posing with Mickey Mouse and the background is extremely busy. It's a wall painted with cartoon characters. I cannot get the people separated from the busy background. Any suggestions?

  • Thanks it works!

  • TS BUT 1IS MISSING IN CS4 THE MAGIC EXTRACT SO PUT THE MAGIC EXTACT IN YOUR PHOTOSHOP CS4 BY GOING TO THE PPLUG IN-FILTERS AND FIND MAGIC EXTRACT AND PUT IT IN THE PHOTOSHOP FOLDER DESAME IN PHOTOSHOP FOLDER COPY THE MAGIC EXTRACT FROM THE ELEMENTS FOLDER AND PASTE IT TO THE FILTER FOLDER IN THE PHOTOSHOP CS4 TO FIND THE FOLDER GO TO pLUG IN->FILTERS AND THATS IT YOU MAKE PHOTOSHOP CS4 AT THE MAX USEFULL

  • When I go to "magic extractor" and click any tool and go to image, I have a small hand that won't let me do anything to the image, no metter what tool I choose. Do I need to do something to the image b4 trying the extractor?

  • does elements 8 have the lasso or pen tool also?

  • Wow thanks this whas verry help full!

  • One of the best tips about PS Elements!!! THX A LOT!!!

  • AWESOME!!! now i can make posters, right??? everybody else uses cs4, but i only have elements, whats the difference??? someone tell me and that would make my day thankyou xxx <3

  • CS4 is the full blown Photoshop, while Elements is a subset of Photoshop features.

For many people Photoshop Elements is more than enough

  • thankyou very much but my photoshop elements(i dont know what type it is) doesnt have the magic extractor

should i just use the lasso or something like that that works just as well???

    thankyou very much awesome video

    lol xD

  • Thank you, this is fantastic, u made it look so easy.

  • I have been all over the place trying to look for a good and helpful tutorial, you my friend are the only one that has come through, thanks a million

  • ok strange i do not have a magic extractor i have cs4 is there a problem helpppppp

  • The tutorial uses PhotoShop Elements - not CS4

  • Excellent video, clear concise and to the point.

  • this is really nice one

  • Thank yue!!so much i finally noe how 2dew it!

  • Wouldn't it be great if we could really extract Al Gore?

  • hi there!

is this possible with Photoshop 7?

  • GREAT VIDEO! I've watched many other videos on how to cut out objects & they weren't as helpful as this video. Thanks for posting it!

  • this isnt in cs4 damn

  • That is actually kinda funny.... car dealer LOL

  • can you do that to with another (lighter) photoshop program?

  • You can do this with other photo editing programs. But I use Photoshop Elements, so this is what the above video shows.

  • I always wanted to know how to do this. You made it quick and easy. Thanks!

  • very nice I really enjoyed it

  • Couldn't you just erase the part of the picture you don't want, then move what is left over to the new picture.

    Sounds easier to me.

  • Try the eraser and see whether it is easy to erase everything - including the close pixels between the fingers.

  • great tutorial!

  • You could you use the magnetic lasso tool to get a very fine cut out.. this is basically just rubbing out what you don't want...

  • whenever I click ok, my picture has the grey and white checkers all throughout the image. I dont know what im doing wrong. every image I use does the same thing

  • thank you. I loved your tutorial. very well done

  • Thanks very much for this, I just bought a new computer, and elements 6.0, I had no idea how to use this tool. This did the trick.

  • whats the difference between elements illustrator and reg photoshop? i use normal photoshop but this looks like a less powerful version but what is illustrator?

  • It's Photoshop elements 5

  • awesome. great vid. cheers mate.

  • I like the magic wand tool alot better

  • great tutorial!!! Thank you so much!!!

  • Great video Bill I really needed this finally thanks

  • you can get this with a BAMBOO brand tablet

  • Thats a good deal - get the bamboo tablet and get photoshop elements free.

  • i wish photoshop wasnt so expensive

  • I agree. But PhotoShop Elements is under $100. That's what I use.

  • I just looked and apparently its £25 might buy it.

  • I ACTUALLY get it now! lol! Thanks very much. Your tutorial is extremely easy to follow. Much appreciated. :)

  • Hi Bill, I am new to PhotoShop Elements 6 and I did everything you said but when I click on Preview nothing happens the picture remains the same with the red & blue and if I click OK I just get a checker blank page. I tried it a few times and the same thing keeps happing. Can you tell me what I should do or check? Thank you.

  • If the preview shows nothing happening, it means nothing was selected.

If you click OK and get a blank screen with checkers, it means everything was selected to be deleted.

  • u rock!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • awesome bruv cant b easier than that i lov the way u explain everything gud for biggners lik mi

  • tnx

  • Thanks Bill great video!! easy fast and good!! big up for you!!

  • HELPFUL VIDEO

  • I want to remove a section of video using Sony Vegas 7 . I want to eliminate a square section in the middle and keep everything outside of that square . Is there a way to do this with only Sony Vegas 7 , or would i need another program to do that and then import it into SV 7 . JV

  • You can obscure a section of the video by covering it a color or solid image or text, but you can't remove a section, and then have the video fill in the missing section and resize the video correctly.

  • Thank you . JV

  • i gotta question how much does photoshop cost?

  • I did the above using PhotoShop Elements. You can find it for $79 on Amazon.

  • do u know if u can buy it at target or best buy or circut city?

  • Yes, you can find PhotoShop Elements at Best Buy and Circuit City.

  • ok thank you

  • Thanks. Couldn't seem to do this on my own!

  • Hi.

Where the magic extractor at?? I have the CS2 version and, mmm i don´t see it, can you tell me please.

    Thank you man good tuto.

  • The above video is for PhotoShop Elements. I'm not sure where the magic extractor is in CS2.

  • very good :D

  • Do you know a similar tool for the history brush in elements that is used in higher versions of photoshop?

  • I do a lot of graphic design for work where I need to be cutting out specific areas of pictures, you have just made my life a hell of a lot easier. Thank you sir.

  • you could just use the magic wand tool....

  • u sound like al gore

  • I just tryed it great tutorial but its kind of hard to be accurate on it really but its good enough for me

  • Check out my 'Transparent backgrounds with Photoshop Elements' video on YouTube.

It shows another way to grab an element from a page, without getting the background.

  • cool! im going to watch now thanks.

  • my comouter memory RAM is too low so i can't use magic extractor even though i just bought elements 6. sad =9

  • Thank you for this video...it helped me so much!

  • will this work in the gimp?

  • Or you could just use the lasso :/

  • Which is the best adobe? 6 or 5...I heard that 5 is better from a couple reviews that I have read...What does everyone think?

  • I've got Elements 5 and Elements 6.

Both are good. Elements 6 has several new features which are useful for those working with photos.

Both have the same learning curve.

Once you understand the concept of layers, Elements is fairly easy to learn and use.

  • if you're into B/W there are some great features in 6. you can get some very rich results as there are so many tonal ranges to obtain in B/W

  • More More More! lol

very well detailed, I don't have stuggle finding what your saying, and slow too so I do not have to keep replaying 4 Thumbs Up.

  • this was great. thanks alot.

  • probably the best tutorialist on youtube

  • thanks

  • Very nice, thank you very much.

  • VERY helpful and well presented!

  • Thank you. This is a great (and humorous) demonstration.

  • Gore as a car salesman. LOL

  • wow! thanks so much! do you have others?

also, can you extract Gore out of office? :)

  • Haha.

  • OMG!!! THANX SOOOOO MUCH!!!!

  • cool, gotta try that one out later....

  • ..you sound a bit like Al Gore.

  • yeah lol u do

  • mayb its him

  • This video is a bit fast but I did rewinded it as much as I like. I am now going to show a bunch of children how to do this in Photoshop element. I really enjoy this easy to follow video...
