  • Mhmm norum's dick?! U stupid cunt if hates ballads then how comes some of his greatest solos are from carrie, open your heart and new love in town?

  • Padarck - what an excellent point you make. You are right the band seemed to have been very keen to ensure Norum's demand for hard out rock was the music has been met, to the detriment of the keyboards. I think their new music is good, but some greater variety would be better and more keyboards, but while Norum is there no chance, they could have managed without him to be honest

  • @ray131262 Thanks, Ray ... But, I don't think their newer music is good (save 2 or 3 songs on Starting From the Dark) ... and yeah they could have managed without him (Norum). Joey Tempest's songwriting is what put the band in the spotlight, and made them huge ... And I believe he has even forgotten that

  • (.. what sell records to a mass audience, that is, beyond just the hard rock crowd). Good post though ... it's interesting and educational

  • Not surprised him doing the yawning routine - John Norum's just a dick .. always hated anything ballady ... he doesn't realize ballads are what sell records .. Since Europe got back together, or particularly since the Secret Society record it's been all about him ... gone are any of the grandiose keyboards that their music used to have. (This song is played with acoustic guitar as the main element, and not the keyboard? Wtf?) And btw their last 2 records suck. They've totally lost the plot

  • @Padarack1

Well, it seems like you actually dont really know what you are talking about. Guitarists have different styles, John Norum is about power, not this kind of quiet soothing ballads. Just listen to his solo albums. He abiously dont like this kind of songs. And im 100% sure he do knows that ballads sell, but that doesnt meen he has to like it...

  • @ZickFingerboards It seems you don't really listen - I didn't state that Secret Society isn't good because of a lack of a "Carrie" type ballad, the point is they lost the idea of music that made them great in the first place ... Europe been trying too hard to 'fit in', and have fallen off the map, of bands. Your final point - you don't HAVE to have a ballad to sell, but you do have to have something MELODIC, along with talented guitar. Go online and buy and hear their Prisoners In Paradise CD

  • @Padarack1

Well we abiously like the diffrent kinds of europe music. You'r right, it was the 80's pop/glam rock that made them big, but i think that the music they play now is the music they want to play. Just as they say them selfs, in the 80's it was the record companies that desided what music they were gonna play. And if you listen to the first to albums they made, it was more like the music they play now.

  • @Padarack1

And as you say "trying hard to fit in", they are just playing the music they want to play, the kind of music they started out with. The 80's kind of music they didn't choose to play. And im not saying i don't like the music they did in the 80's, i just like their new fresh sound better. And Norum, he is a very talented blues-rock guitarist and should be able to play in a band where his playing fits.

  • @Padarack1

And their 2 last records, wow i cant believe you dont like that. Their 2 last records is a whole other thing, its like they finally know what they are capable of. I really like, no i LOVE Secret Society, just cant explain how good it is. They really have a new fresh sound not that 80's kind of crap. They are where they are suppose to be in music right now.

Btw English is not my main language.

  • @ZickFingerboards ~ Their stuff they did in the 80s wasn't crap (though arguably this single song), it was and is GREAT - That's your problem, why you think Secret Society is so good because it's all 'fresh' {doesn't sound like Europe}. You write English just fine, you're just wrong about your premise. Their 80s stuff, and their '91 Prisoners In Paradise album ROCKS; they would not be able to tour and PLAY CONCERTS today if not for those songs. Joey's voice is lame as hell on SS, & Eden.

  • awesome

  • Thanks. I think John Norum hates this track. At the Birmingham gig, I caught a glimpse of him behind the backdrop making yawning motions. Then he failed to come out and play the whole guitar solo. Only played second half of it. He's still great though

  • i was there was great!!!
