Judy Collins ~ Beautiful & Enormously Talented got to see Judy at The Count Basie Theatre in New Jersey a few years back (my ex won the tickets on the radio) one of the best things she ever did for me LOL GREAT SHOW....
FROM muizeekphanitic: Fantastic! What a delight to see both Judy and Leonard in their musical heyday, singing together with exquisite harmony. Having heard both of them (recorded separately by each), it was really nice to hear them do it together, live on stage. Interesting to know that Judy was a close friend of Leonard was helped expose him to the national stages and audiences. This is a really good tune that ranks up with the rest of his fine catalogue. Judy's voice always pretty. Thanks! A+
FROM arthur11uk: Still a beatutiful song with touching words after so many year and heard so many many times repeat and repeat. Great to watch them singing together. Thanks betahifi. One feels better by listening to this when down.
FROM lanisongbird: Ok, it might be 32 years after this video was made, but I'm still jealous as h*ll of Judy Collins. *I* want to sing with Leonard Cohen!!!
FROM mighty tiny: Beautiful song by a great songwriter.
By the way, just now noticed something that hadn't occurred to me before: that the young Leonard Cohen looks A LOT like the young Dustin Hoffman. :)
Listen to more of Judy Collins singing Leonard Cohen songs on the "Wolfgangs Vault" web site. There is a terrific 1973 San Francisco concert there, with Judy singing, "Suzanne" and "Famous Blue Raincoat," accompanied only by her guitar. Log onto Wolfgangsvault and hear why Judy is such a renowned interpreter of Cohen's songs and lyrics.
FROM chrishovel: i like both individual versions, but together it doesn't work- for me - the voices clash.
FROM kittalia:
I felt the same way initially - absolutely, a clash -I experienced trying to listen to either/or. Was disorienting until I sat back without trying to force it and viola! I heard what Judy Collins is doing - its amazing musical craftsmanship! And then you hear the brilliance of it!
Lovely lovely song. Sadly, I found myself wishing Judy took a step or two back from the microphone. No offense against her, I guess I just really associate this song with Leonard's voice as I've never heard her cover of the tune. Nevertheless, it's a decent version. To the original poster, thank you for posting it.
FROM hermungus: I'm so proud to have seen him in his absolute heyday... when I was so tremendously in love with his music. (of course I still am).
Well, it's pretty clear who has the "better" voice, but nonetheless, every time I hear Leonard Cohen playing with anyone else I fall even more deeply in love with his words and sentiments. What a genius he is, and Judy Collins is perfect here too.
FROM cailiplus2: I was 10 years old, more than two decades ago, and I fell full force in love with LC, and especially this song. It has endured me far longer than any other loves of mine. Superb!
FROM idysseus: Well, it's pretty clear who has the "better" voice, but nonetheless, every time I hear Leonard Cohen playing with anyone else I fall even more deeply in love with his words and sentiments. What a genius he is, and Judy Collins is perfect here too.
FROM ralle49:
Ich finde beide Musiker einzeln sehr gut aber beide zusammen, haben sie mich wirklich überrascht.Toll.
FROM vsibirsky: It was lovely to see them together and hear this rendition of the song. Leonard C is an amazing poet, songwritter and author but let's be honest...He is not the greatest singer in the world and never was. That Judy can somehow weave amazing harmony around is between monotone and off pitch singing is an incredible feat! Thanks for posting this.
FROM southpet:
Wow! I adore this song. I love Judy Collins! I saw her concert in Oct, 2006 in LA she was perfection!
From mariellecharmaine: Thank You for a great clip. This has a very sweet introduction by Judy and great interaction between old friends Judy and Leonard. Its lovely to see both a female and male perspective of the song.
FROM OM92555: This is the first time that I have heard them sing this song together. Such beautiful harmony. I always thought that tha song was about Judy. She is such a remarkable woman.
FROM PalomaVD: Gracias!!!
Es todo un hallazgo y un placer encontrar esta canción.

haha, not exactly, that was a leonard's joke. Someone long ago said 'i have seen the future of r'n'r' after his first springsteen concert.

someone long ago said "I have seen the future of rock and roll and it is not Leonard Cohen"

Cohen was a folk musician, not a rock musician. He wrote profound and genuine folk songs with layers of personal meaning.

@Nilsosmar I'm sure glad I attributed that quote to someone else.....

FROM jackbox1971:
Leonard has never been a great vocalist, and Judy is maybe too good for pop, but when they sing this song together, it really seems to work.
FROM lizlogs: This is just lovely: their voices just 'work' together and the harmonies complement the song.
Saw Judy in Glasgow earlier this year, and am going to see Leonard in Belfast in July.
