  • You can hear the breaks in the tone every time their foot hits the ground. UW also can't even memorize music. The UW band can't hold a candle to the OSU band. Go Buckeyes. The Best Damn Band in the Land.

  • teach me how to bucky

  • @gallardowilliam its a badger and dont hate!

  • Love the Wisky band. Can't wait to see a game in Madtown and jump around. Go Bucks!

  • @singmusic124 This is what YouTube comment space is for: positive celebration of the video displayed! Thanks, singmusic124. Loved the games, too! Can't wait to go back. -dumonj

  • am I the only one that's pissed unc tarheels marching band stole 'jump around' for the national championships???!?!?!???!?!?!?

  • A little history lesson. This fight song was suppose to beUniversity of Minnesota's fight . If it was Minnesota's song it would have been called " Minnesota Minnesota written by Will Purdy." Because the Minnesota Rouser beat "Minnesota Minnesota", Purdy changed the lyrics and the song became Wisconsins fight song

  • So Minnesota lost to the Badgers at that too.

  • That is NOT the song

  • People need to actually sing the song.

    Seriously.

  • high schools that use this song are copiers and non creative

  • Yeah, agreed. School that use, "Jump Around" are also copiers and not creative.

  • Most high school bands use university fight songs ESPECIALLY Big Ten Schools. On Wisconsin in one of the most frequently used. Not so much that they (high schools) lack creativity... more about the tonality of the marches and often times the familiarity of the tune....but mostly these fight songs convey a sense of tradition that can really rally a crowd.

In college football, the band is often overlooked but when the band isnt playing the fight song you realize that something is missing.

  • @WISCONSINWOODSHUNTER REALLY? There is a book out called "college fight songs" that has the top college songs in it, and it is used by MANY HIGH SCHOOLS and some smaller colleges. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Too bad the school where I teach chose OHIO STATE's song (barf) because it was SOOOOO easy, not as easy as Michigan Victors, though. Seriously, back in the 40's and 50's when most HS picked songs, that was the thing to do!

  • @scechal I don't know what you mean by "easy", but if you perform the rendition of "The Victors" that University of Michigan performs, you'll find that it's not quite so "easy." That goes for other college football marches like "On, Wisconsin", etc as well. The melody may seem simple or easy but not when you put everything together.

  • @camellane33 I don't know what you mean by "not quite so 'easy'" but I have been a professional musician, degreed, who has taught music for the last 36 years. So I guess I don't know much about marches..or school songs, which are marches. Thanks for the education on melody vs. harmonic structure and countermelody. I have been enlightened! The Victors is a favorite, that is for sure! Perhaps we can agree that there is no easy original version of a march?

  • @camellane33 and I am from Minnesota, BTY.

  • so does the high school ill be going to

  • My school uses this as their song :D

  • I've been to Lambeau twice but I've never been to Camp Randell. I wanna go :(

  • You should, man. There's nothing like it!

  • On Wisconsin, on Wisconsin, we outdrink your state...

  • Best band in the Country. The 5th Quarter!!! Yeah!

  • You got that right.

  • lol My High School uses On Wisconsin for our fight song

  • omg i luv the badgers im the #1 fan

  • I got to go to a Badger game like 4 years ago, than the next day went to Lambeau to see the Pack WHOOOP on the cowgirls... it was a great weekend, because both the Pack and the Badgers won... I wish I could go again...

  • They are both different crowds. Badger crowds are more the younger, family type. While Packer crowds are the older driking type. They both, however have real loyal following. I just like the Badgers environment at Camp Randall than the Packers evironment at Lambeau. I've been to both, but am a diehard Badgers fan. I just love the whole pageantry of college ftbll more than the NFL atmospere.

  • Oh yea... i completely agree, it was like a complete 180 going from Camp Randall to Lambeau... but never the less... great times

  • They're both fun, though. I've been to Lambeau Field as well. Not since they won the Superbowl, though.

  • DAMN you got some AWESOME seats!

  • @KitKoolie This was a sweet section, indeed. Fortunately, UW changed their ticket distribution to fist-come, first-served for the student section. So, it was 'come early and get sweet seats', basically. Or just sneak down and smush next to your friends who came early and got good seats. Haha.

  • @dumonj Best band in the land!

  • @KitKoolie its because there in the student section really awesome seats

  • Bucky Who ?

  • bucky the badger the mascot

  • I used to go to Illini games on occasion when I lived down there. Illini band was technically very good but boring musically. Come on, the Darth Vader theme has been done to death. The ROTC cadets ringing the bell was more interesting. No comment on the white guy dressed in an indian suit. The Badger Band is infinitely more fun and definitely more dangerous!

  • Has anyone seen the Marching Illini? They sound great.

  • Are you kidding me? Obviously you have never seen The Band live....

  • Yeah, well, they broke up after The Last Waltz, so not much luck for anyone who can't remember the mid 70s...

  • It's not the greatest audio on this clip. But that being said, the OSU band is nothing to write home about either. "Marching machines" are usually pretty boring. After all, they are machines. Give me the Badger Band any day.

  • I'm glad I know that now. I don't know why tey call themselves the Best Damn Band in the Land. How many other stadiums have the 5th quarter. I'm glad the band is back.

  • @fvshkatie Canon Powershot Digital Elph is the camera used. How I long for a point-and-shoot with SLR-like capabilities AND good sound recording! That would've been sweet to have, as I am not a fan of the scratchy sound recording either. It still manages to evoke that great game-day emotion, though. Thanks for the comment.

  • @fvshkatie I love how the Buckeye fans come here trolling, another reason the hate them more(like we don't have ENOUGH reasons already to hate them), but we don't troll F*ckeye videos.

  • Why do you insist on insulting the band? Does it make it feel better. Maybe you should think about what you're say

  • @buckeyenutz05 If you want to watch Ohio St. videos, YouTube "ohio St. marching band". This is BADGER territory, baby! (I will, however, mention your comment to my Columbus-native Dad. He'll rub it in my face :-)

  • @buckeyenutz05

Coming from an LSU fan, Ohio State probably has the most annoying band besides Tennessee in college football. It isn't amazing when you play the same song for every single play. Not to mention the fact that the majority of high schools in the U.S use "On Wisconsin" as their fight song. Mainly because its relatively easy to play and it sounds outstanding.

  • @lw42 High schools in other states, in WI (believe it or not) the ILLINOIS Loyalty actually is used by more High schools than ON WIS! (from a WI band director and trivia nerd.)

  • @lw42 At first, when I read your comment, I thought it said, FANS, but yeah, I am a Badger fan and there is nothing more annoying than Rocky Top. The Ohio State has most annoying fans too as well as band.

  • @buckeyenutz05

That'sbecause OSU (who we still beat, in case you had forgotten. It wasn't the "worst game of the year," unless you mean for you.) marches like high schoolers. Anybody can walk with style. It takes actual effort to do what we do in the Wisconsin Band. Maybe you'd like to come try some real marching sometime. We'd be glad to have you.

  • Oh you mean those ones who lost in Austin to Wisconsin this year? Nice Try. ON, WISCONSIN!

  • hey that is our school song it rox you are really good you should see our band we are really good too!!!!

  • yeah which school is that

  • i live in sd. so its gettysburg highschool home of the battlers

  • UW Madison has the best damn song and marching band evah. Uh not that I'm biased. But of course our song is cool. That's why so many other sport sports teams try and co-opt it. pfft. It's ours losers. Okay, we managed to change someone's mind from it's original MN roots, but that happened and it's ours now. So back off other loser teams who use it.

  • i live in wisconsin. i love it here

  • go bucky badger

  • @pureman72 Goldy Gopher is better

  • @nickypmn1991 Goldy Gopher? Please! a vermin rodent, that spins his head round and round?

  • On, Wisconsin! On, Wisconsin!

    Grand old Badger state!

We, thy loyal sons and daughters

    Hail thee good and great.

    On, Wisconsin! On, Wisconsin!

    Champion of the right.

    "Forward," our motto - God

    Will give thee might!

  • On, Wisconsin! On, Wisconsin!

    Plunge right through that line!

Run the ball clear down the field,

(originally "Run the ball clear 'round Chicago")

    A touchdown sure this time.

    On, Wisconsin! On, Wisconsin!

    Fight on for her fame

Fight! Fellows! - fight, fight, fight!

    We'll win this game.

  • On Wisconsin! On Wisconsin!

    Stand up badgers sing

    Forward is our driving spirit

    loyal voices ring

    On wisconsin!On Wisconsin!

    Raise her glowing flame

Stand fellows let us now salute her name. ON WISCONSIN

  • Wisconsin has the best band ever

  • When you said Wisconsin...you've said it all.

  • Yea, I was about to say that too.

  • Hey nice video, but it's the end of the pregame show, not halftime. Little typo there.
