Thanks! It's the Fatboy. The lead tone isn't that good actually, it might sound good in the vid because you can hear Holdsworth's own lead tone in the background. It's just a shitty Line 6 POD XT-patch I made.
That's a bold statement, I don't think he'd be able to get his signature tone out of anything. Haha. There's a reason why he sticks with spesific brands of gear.
I don't know how he does it. It might be the Yamaha Magic Stomps, but I don't think so.
But I'm guessing what many tend to forget is that the way he plays is also a important element of that sound. And only Holdsworth can play like Holdsworth. :P
@lordsong7 not sure how much you've experimented, but a lot of his tone comes from mid range stuff, light picking, and a lot of it has to do with the tone/volume on his guitar. generally, i try to turn my tone really low and my volume slightly down.
Just learned this this tune myself, but having trouble getting the left hand chord voicing at 0:25. I got the taps, but is it just Cm9 (C Eb Bb D) starting on the A string? Does he play anything on the low E string?
Ah. Yeah, I struggled a bit before nailing this to be honest. But, yeah, it's just a Cm9 (C Eb Bb D G). Though, in the tab I used, it said G Eb Bb D G, which would be a Ebmaj7 with the 3rd as root. But I figured it to be incorrect. But who knows? Hehe.
Yeah, the manuscript I found had F on the bottom of that chord. It's kind of ambiguous. Thanks for the help. Looking Glass is next for me, my hands will hate me, lol.
Thanks a lot. The solo sound, as well as the clean sound is my Line 6 POD XT Live. As it may sound OK in this video it actually isn't that great to be honest. Hehe. I'm at least not able to reproduce something even remotely similar to Holdsworth's lead tone. But the clean sound is pretty good.
by the fingering you can play it but the music is louder than your guitar. you should make a video without the song playing

Very good!!
Excellent
I see you play the Carvin Holdsworth - how do you like it? I can't see whether its the fatboy or the H2
What parameters are you using to get that lead tone?
Thanks - keep up the great work!

ok thanx
but remember that Allan gets his tone no matter what equipment he's using - Yamaha solid states, Hughes & Kettner, Carvins, ...
Is it a certain pedal an EQ or what? I know he uses Magic Stomps - is it something in there?
I've been trying to nail that tone for years and I'm still missing it somewhere! Drives me nuts! haha
Some guys here seem pretty darn close though and I always wonder whats different.
