Jesus, The 1st time i fought against Sultan Saladin with his 800-900 troops in Cairo Fortress he managed to wipe out almost all my 2 whole armies of Templars :0 , as soon as they clash my Knights start running away without stopping to regroup, he was broken tho just 200 men he had left but he's damn strong. But the second time fucked him up sending 400 Knights no infatry against his remaining men.

In Ambush at Arsuf with Richard the lionheart against Saladin , he had more cavalry than my whole army & his ambush comes from front, sides & rear so i lost but the second time i moved all knights & infantry near the beach so that the threat will come only from the front, when my troops were being badly broken i send my remaining knights against his bodyguard & Richard killed Saladin with his sword :) after a while his remaining troops retreated while i chased.

It was for God at first . . . then when the Franks and the HRE carved out their places, then it was all about wealth. A true crusader fights for God tho; the ones who fought for wealth, land, prestige, and trying to defeat the Muslims- I don't consider them Crusaders.

Sounds like some Don Quixote approach to me. Or like some Bin Laden-approach. Nope, fighting for land (=a place to live), for the reign of your law is the better motif. Nowadays you just 1.) don't have to exploit the lands, 2.) n the long run can't gain anything with wars trying to conquer other people's places to live.

You can't provide control of the Holy Sepulchre if you can't provide control of the territory around it. The first crusaders came armoured, not as peaceful pilgrims who sought access to their sanctum like Daniel, unarmed beneath the lions. If you like peaceful pilgrims, you shouldn't advocate crusaders. It's like being happy about Conquistadores in Latin America for the sake of the Christian mission.

The "Islamic hordes" weren't invading but lived there since 638 A.D., it was their country, their rule, their "true faith". But I go with you respecting the will to conquer of any peoples of these ages, also Crusaders'. However, this will hasn't anything to do with christian "love for enemies" or truly peaceful evangelization like Bartolomé de Las Casas demanded it. It's just politics (fightin for the dominion of your rules), which has its own right but sure ain't holy.

Christians inhabited that land for centuries prior to the rise of Islam. Contrary to the image perpetuated by many a pseudo-historian, Moslems were not a tolerant lot by any stretch of the imagination. One can read the accounts of Michael the Syrian or Aristakes. Aristakes describes the wholesale slaughter of the Christians in Armenia by the Seljuks which included being flayed alive and their skins being used as bowstrings. The war waged by the Crusaders was indeed holy.

Who's defending what exactly? Crimes were committed by unscrupulous men on both sides. However the law of the Church then (as it would now) would have excommunicated those men automatically (such as the siege of Constantinople in 1204 ... which was a response to the Massacre of the Latins in 1182). Regardless, I am speaking of the two causes. The moslem cause was to defend the territory they stole via pillage and rape. Whereas the Crusaders fought for Christian lands.

Every kingdom, sultanate, khanate, state and nation-state, every political dominion in history was build upon violence. It's neither logical nor fair to call the muslim conquest of Jerusalem in the 7th century illegitimate while you call the christian conquest holy. Both were legitimate according to the ius gentium, but definitely not holy. And we today, calling every conquest illegitimate since the drafting of the 1945 UN-Charta, aren't allowed to claim any foreign land as "ours",
