  • FYI Fällkniven is pronounced: Fell-qnee-ven

  • hey bob

would you recommend the pxl folder or a folder from the TK series?

  • @phishydk This is pure personal preference. Both knives are quality, made from 3G steel. The PXL are liner locks and the TK series are lock backs. My own preference would be for the PXL knives but that makes no statement about the TK knives, it is just my personal choice. You won't go wrong with either.

  • You've probably heard it before, but it is not pronounced "fallNiven" but "fallKniven" with a hard K. :).

    "FaellKneeven"

  • Bob - thanks so much for your quick response. The penetrating oil or lube you are mentioning from Sentry - is it Tuf-Glide from Sentry Solutions? if not what exactly is the name of the product you are talking about? Sounds like a good product to use on all my knives?

  • @limelite3 When I said penetrating oil I meant something like WD-40 which I use a lot on my knives. I also use the Sentry tuf-glide which lubes and coats with a dry protectant, which will protect your non stainless knives from rust. I recommend getting the bottle with the needle applicator. Thats what I use and it is very handy. One bottle lasts a long time. You can find it on the Knives Town website.

  • Bob - I purchased this knife and love. I was curious about the care for it though. Can I disassemble and grease? If so do you by chance know the exact Torx needed for it.

  • @limelite3 I don't think I would disassemble, at least not for the purpose of lube. Disassembling would be something I would do only if absolutely necessary. Why not just use some penetrating oil or a lube from Sentry? As for the screw sizing, I usually mention in the vid if I can establish what it is. I dont recall if they even are Torx head, but if so; most pivots that use the torx head screws are size 10 and most handle screws are 6's.

  • I love the look of that, I'd get one if it had a lefty swappable pocket clip.

  • would u let a 14 year old own a knife

  • @daboss1000 I recall my first knife which I received as a Christmas gift from my parents at the age of ten. It was a slip joint pocket knife and was my most treasured possession. Certainly each youth must be assessed individually by their parents or guardians as to whether a knife would be appropriate, and that decision would be the parents to make. By the age of 14 I would expect most to have obtained a sufficient level of maturity, depending on the individual.

  • @daboss1000 the younger you give a kid a knife and teach them safty ther more carful they will be when older

  • @MrDip02 True, got my first one at 6 years old, and the only times I did something stupid with it, was when I listened to my older brother. (throwing it into to ground and stuff like that)

  • @wigglos yes and if you have made mistakes when younger you learn from them not alot of adults that make mistakes dont learn from them

  • I like Swedish stuff, Greetings from Gothenburg in Sweden

  • Would you still say that this is the still the finest quality knife that you have reviewed after 141 videos? Reason being I am turning one of those magic numbers this year and am looking for a great edc to commemorate it and use for many years to come..

  • @EnduringEagle Thats a tough question. I would say it is definitely in the top 3 or 4. I like the Benchmade Rukus, the Al Mar Shrike and the Spyderco Temperance 2 also but I would still say this knife is at the top of the knife food chain.

  • @wwwknivestowncom Thank you Bob. I like the PXL as it is beautifully built, very elegant and screams quality. Are there any others you would recommend for an EDC?

  • This is on my "Must Get" list. The questions I have are two. First does it require diamond stones to sharpen this blade? I have a spyderco sharpmaker and would like to use my existing equipment. Second, do you like this better than the tomcat or fatcat for roughly the same money?

  • @EnduringEagle A diamond sharpener is not a necessity, but would make the job go faster. The blade was razor, razor sharp as I recall. I like it better than the FatCat because it has a clip and I think it is more knife than the TomCat. Its thick and rather heavy, but thats how I like my knives, but is not to everyones taste I know. This is a lifetime knife, no doubt about it.

  • @wwwknivestowncom Thank you Bob. The PXL is on my "Must Get" list.

  • Since it is micarta, can you see the layering/is the layering obvious like the maroon version of this? It looks like you can't from the pics and videos but I thought I would ask.

  • @Tenkuu Layering is not obvious no. In Micarta and G-10 the layering only shows a lot if the thickness changes. Then you get the figuring where the layer edges show and it looks like a topographic map. But if the thickness is consistent then the layering really doesn't show much.

  • the 62 rockwell would make for a pretty brittle blade, wouldn't it? and since it's tip down, it isnt really a tactical knife, but thats just me.

  • @whateverfast22 The 62 shows only at the edge. The blade is laminated and a softer steel sandwiches the hard 62 steel. In this way the blade is not brittle. One might then argue that the edge is brittle since it is the harder steel alone, but this is not a chopping/hacking knife. This is a daily use heavy pocket knife that is good for any chore short of chopping, twisting, etc... besides, even at 62 it is not fragile like ceramic or something, it is still a darn tough blade.

  • @wwwknivestowncom Once again, my habit of commenting in the midst of a video proves true.. I posted the comment, then heard you say the exact thing. Sorry about that : /

  • This has to be the most beautiful folder I've ever seen!!!

  • Mine is coming tomorrow.

Got allready the TK3. These knives rocks.

  • in my country it costs 330 euro,

    thats ~ 472 u.s. dollar !!!!

that is to much for a folding knife...

    but it is so pretty....

  • OMG im in love. I gotta get one.

  • Paracord will fit through that lanyard hole, just fish it through with something, or poke it through. It compresses to a very small diameter, but the hole should be plenty as it is.

  • is the handle mad of ivory

  • It is made of Micarta.

  • oh ok thx

  • I just bought this one and it feels very high quality and is E-X-T-R-E-M-E-L-Y sharp. I mean "cut off the tip of you finger before you know it" sharp. REALLY sharp....

I have about 10 knifes in my collection and this is without a doubt the sharpest, very impressive!

I like it a lot, feels nice and heavy in your palm with no flex at all in the blade. Excellent collectors and EDC knife if you want a more sophisticated look and don't mind the weight.

    I like it a lot!

  • Thanks for a good review on this knife !

    5/5

  • I have the fällkniven P . I prefer VG-10 steel version for an EDC.

SPGS is good but it's not as durable for rougher EDC use. However you can get a scary sharp edge with a HQ diamond grit hone.

The older P series holds better in one's hands.

I have a couple Fällkniven kitchen knives as well.

    Worth every penny.

  • SO PRETTY.. but too expensive for me to carry as an edc... but so pretty!

  • thats not a fallkniven shield its the swedish 3 crownes used in the swedish armes and nationality

  • Only the core is 62 HRC not the side, is not so much hard to resharp... Or better if you have the right tool is pretty easy to resharp (need to know basic). At home i like japanese whetstone and around i like DC4 or some others diamond thinks but DC4 most because the ceramic side...

  • I wonder if Fallkniven beats Benchmade's knives

  • The Spyderco Sharpmaker makes sharpening very easy. Since this knife does have a high Rockwell rating you may want to get some of the fine diamond stones.

There are other good sharpening systems out there but the Sharpmaker is my favorite. Very effective and quite affordable. And yes if you use a knife you will have to sharpen it.

Also you may want to check if the PXL has a convex edge. I know Fallkniven uses one on all their fixed blades. Sharpening a convex edge is a little different.

  • Damn, this knife is nice! I can just see the quality. I love the weight of it, seems perfect. I hate a lightweight knife, they just feel cheap in your hand. The blade on this knife seems second to none, and smooth deployment. I can see by how you open it. You have excellent reviews, thanks for doing them. This is my next knife. I love the Micarta handles on this, strong. Beauty and function, nice. Also, best pocket clip I've seen.

  • A very nice review! Unfortunately, it's the only one on youtube of the PXL. Can you do another one, a comparison probably, how the knife "feels and acts"? What is your opinion on the the toughness of the PXL, not just the blade? It's in the same price range of the sebenza and strider sng (listed about EUR300 on the official website).... and a heavy one as well.

    Can those be compared?

    Cheers!

  • I got my PXL in the post today - christmas present to myself. I had a TK3 for many years before I abused it to death. Great review and true in every way. This is a stunning piece of kit. Buy one - you won't regret it.

  • Love the classier look and perfect pocket clip, but it pretty heavy.

  • Too heavy for its size. Too thick. Not too good looking. Good review.

  • If they put it on a diet it would be perfect. Agree to heavy for its size.

  • Beautiful knife, I want one.

  • I like the style of your reviews. Fallkniven is one of my favourite knife companies. PXL is going to be my third knife from them (A1,G1).

  • Yay, you pronounced fällkniven correctly!

  • OK, what the ! is wrong with you? I have seen you commenting on everyone reviewing a Fällkniven-knife saying "you pronounced it wrong durrrr" . Obviously you have no clue, although you are from our neighbouring country.

FYI, the dude in the video doesn't pronounce it right, as it is a strong K in "Fällkniven".

Still a really good review thou.

  • no hi dident! Im from sweden so I know!

  • A little too heavy for my tastes but it is indeed a nice looking knife.

  • it's pronounced like you did, but with a k-sound before the n.

  • What a good looking knife. To bad its are illegal in denmark, next door to sweden.

  • Is it illegal??

  • Yes, we cant carry onehanded opening knives at all. And locked knives are only allowed for work or stuff like fishing. Not EDC.

Neckknives also illegal, but that doesnt worry me so much.

Im not a big fan of tactical or self defence knives, other than maybe for a collection at home (still illegal here), but I would like locked and onehanded opening to be legal somehow. maybe have to get a permit or something.

  • There are some states like Florida that have "almost" no limitations on folding knifes. Just basic ones.

  • beautiful knife nice vid good job 5 stars

  • is zdp-189 harder

  • Yes, zdp-189 is 67 hrc, while this knife has 62 hrc.
