Nice, I am getting ready to bind my first headstock, it was nice to see how you do it and gives me some ideas. I have been flying blind on guitar building, I don't know of any luthiers around here, so videos like yours help me allot.
@SRVDean Thanks, it's what makes it fun, whether I'm building something fine or a kitchen cabinet, I go for the slow, handmade approach. Thanks for watching.
@concussedcarneous The necks and fingerboards are built up. The marquetry is integral to the design and cannot be added after the fact. Just my process. BTW, I got your other comment, and for the record, as I see it CNC means I cannot carve. Just sayin.
haha. i figured that. wannabe apprentices to luthiers, like me are a nickel a dozen. but still, awesome work man. if i ever get around to carving my first, this is how i want to do it.
what a cool video!!!

This may be a silly question but is there any difference beteween the green and orange spring clamps, other than the colour, made by pony?
Thanks Paul

I have a great tip for you, you can use thick rubber bends for clamping the bindings, they work really well.
yoheff988 1 year ago
how did you get the measurements of the fretboard?
i want to make a fretboard that is 24 fret and 25-1/2 scale length but i cant find the right sizes to put the fret wire.

@HeroOfTheDay1000
If the guitar is already finished, installing a binding is
a tough job. If your intent is to finish the piece ebony,
taping off the binding for staining, I'd go with a nice straight
grain maple, it bends so easily. But I dont have much experience with
the exotic woods. Try bending a small piece of what you want to
use, and make sure it's worth the effort.

How long of a time span does it take you to do both of them??
seanfoxie 2 years ago
I really don't know, I'd guess a week or so for both necks, start to finish.

I never even tought of using a rope to clamp difficult shapes man, you just might have a stroke of genius :D do you do this for a living?
chronicpunk 2 years ago
Ha! Genius you say. It could happen.
I'm trying to do it for a living. Would help if I could sell a few. lol
I bind the bodies this way to, there is another vid for that. You can really slop on the glue, too, it won't stick to nylon cordage.
