HAHAHAHA! I remember him! He danced around me one day when we were down Jewtown. I was about 8 or 9yrs old. We were standing by clapping & cheering. He complimented me on my dimples and teased me a lil bit.
Now, I like this guy and this group here, but if you listen to the one by riotgear1974, you'll get a real feel of the maxwell street blues, minus the fancy stuff, or if you have an album of "and this is maxwell street 1 and 2", which I have, then you'll REALLY SEE THE DIFFERENCE!
Dancin Perkins, was one of the 'original' Maxwell Street performers, 70's 80's. He played there every Sunday. This video clip was shot on the 'new' Maxwell Street, as the City of Chicago refers to it, since they moved it. Dancin' Perkins just happened to be out there the day I shot the video clip.
By the way, I used to go to the 'original' Maxwell Street Sunday Market when it was in it's heyday - I was there.
By the way, I know the 'old' Maxwell Street is gone. I talked to Tommy Hollywood, the guitar player in Maxwell Street Boogie Bamd. He told me 2 weeks ago, Billy Boy Arnold showed up on the 'new' Maxwell Street, how about that! Wish I had been there.
Absolutely, Dancin' Perkins was out there in the early days of the 'real' Maxwell Street and I was lucky to see him then and recently at the 'new' Maxwell Street looking and sounding as good as ever as you can see. Sad to say Maxwell Street is undergoing another change, will it survive at all? Thanks for the comment.
