my mom has a 83 trans am that has just been sitting in storage for 17 years. nobody knew wat engine it had and today my dad juss found out that it is a l69 with the 700r4 auto
@stanleytherat The L69 wasnt available with the 700R4 in 1983. It was only available with the T5 in 83. 1984 was the only year to get an automatic with the L69.
@68Barracuda11s thats where it gets confusing but it was the dealers sons car and trust me its a r4 it has an extra notch on the shifter were it shouldnt
@stanleytherat Whats the 8th character of the VIN? The L69 would be a "7", whereas the LG4 would be an "H" in 1983. Does the car have an electric fan, 8,000rpm tach, etc? I dont believe it. There were NO L69/auto combinations in the F-body in 1983. I would like to see a copy of the SPID in order to confirm. If it does have a 700R4, somebody put it in somewhere along the line since the car was new.
@68Barracuda11s im not trying to bs but me and my dad didnt belive it either, and we got the $50 build sheet and did a vin check and everything but i have a video of it on my page its got the functional hood scoop and just a bunch of suspicious parts regular tas didnt have its in storage 40 miles away right now though so i cant look at stuff and tell you
@stanleytherat I watched the videos. That is an LG4 car. It has a 6,000rpm tach, 60psi oil gauge, and an automatic. All 82-83 LU5, and all 82-84 LG4 Trans Ams with the exception of the very early 82s (which had flat hoods), also had the functional air induction hood. Once again, it is NOT an L69 car. I will bet $100 on the fact the 8th character of the VIN is an "H"
it does have the second air intake on the top lid of the air cleaner. It connects to the hood louver that activates and opens during high acceleration.
Nice car.Boy those engines were weak in comparison to today.
