Great review man! Thanks for pointing out the blade play issue, as it allowed me to reconsider purchasing this one. I might go for the fixed blade version instead.
That bending liner is scary as hell!....especially for a knife geared towards the role of self defense. Crazy low quality on that. I was a fan of this too since I can't carry fixed blades at all but Im gonna pass on this one.
That is so cheap! All they have to do is spend a little more on the liner being thicker for less flex & they don't wana fork over the extra like 2 dollars for those chinese workers! BS This makes me question Ka Bar because theyre willing to attach their name to this crap
my knife has the same problem with the bending liner, but after slamming the back side of the blade onto a table about 5 times im not as worried. i agree though that is a little scary, i would have paid $10 extra for a better liner. one that didnt bend. just thought id share that
great review. I'll probably be getting one of those but it's too bad about the quality. I would have paid a lot more than 30 bucks for more quality. If it was Benchmade quality I would have been willing to pay 150 for it. It should have been titanium liners with an emerson wave on the back!
hey. because of this vid im going to look at picking up a tdi fixed blade. ive always wanted to edc a fixed blade. thats awful worrisome about the flexing liner
When the knife locks up in that angle it puts a lot more preassure on the lock if you apply negative force... I'd take a kerambit type knife instead for the same task. The spyderco civillian would be nasty in the scenario you mentioned! ;)
Thanks for the knife reviews and good topics....what is the deal with the survivalists out there doing videos on making brownies and reviewing hot sauce? Man, I have unsubbed to many channels these days....who wants to sub to a knife guy and get cookie videos?
dude i am so glad you put this up cuz i was literaly about to buy one of these lol i was excited about this untill now my defence blades has to be strong lol!
Very interesting. I am a fan of the TDI, although not their stock sheath. However, I'm trying to no longer buy chinese as much as possible. I have found Taiwan's products are superior to the mainland. Question: Can you recommend an alternative sheath source for the tdi fixed that's still in business? How do you carry your fixed, when u do carry it?
@bladeimm - I usually carry a S&W HRT or CS MiniTac Kiridashi instead. But both of those I carry inside my front slash pocket, I put a keyring through their sheaths and clipped it to a carabiner through my pocket. I would carry the small fixed TDI in the same way, but I'd have to take a look at the sheath to see how I might fix a keyring through it. ~Sensei Israel
is it just 5cr steel? and not possibly a misprint for 5cr15mov? either way i wouldnt use it for a knife steel. .5 carbon is not enough for anything past utility blades but thats just my opinion
Excellent info Israel!! I like the fixed blade version. TDI teaches to punch thrust as you suggested, especially when deployed to retain a primary weapon, like a handgun. I wonder if TDI has seen one of these. That liner lock doesn't inspire confidence!!! One of the great things about the fixed blade version is that it's compact enough to carry, can be deployed instantly, and there's no lock to fail.
without this i would have ordered one the instant i saw it
but that lock .. thats awefull man
shame on kabar ,,, really
and please leave out the pricepoint consideration, i saw a 125 kilo (250 pound??) guy step on a byrd cara cara once and the lock did not fail and minimal handle flex
if spyderco can do that at that price point kabar should go fuck themselves especially for advertising it as a self defense knife
i love the concept of the tdi blades but this sucks
@the2ndsaint They don't hook as much as a karambit, so they are kind of halfway between karambit and push dagger. But overall I think they fixed blade TDIs are a very practical design for punch-thrusts, slashes, and close cutting. ~Sensei Israel
"How can we make this better?" "Put a pivot in it!" lol
THE13EARJEW 1 week ago
@THE13EARJEW - Lol. And a liner that flexes.

It seems like ka bar's folders are never nearly as good as their fixed blades, even relatively.
FecalFiasco 2 months ago
Have you seen the Heckler and Koch fugitive, it looks like it is a production version of the original Lone Wolf Cheyenne.
CaveTater 3 months ago
@CaveTater - Yes it's the same design I think, because Benchmade owns the design now, but I think they changed the steel and handle materials.
WeAllJuggleKnives 3 months ago
@WeAllJuggleKnives It looks like the handle material is FRN, because one of the Lone Wolf Cheyenne models had the FRN handles.

NeptuneKnives 5 months ago
@NeptuneKnives - Yeah! I've seen thinner liners that didn't flex, so the steel must be very bad or not treated.
