I think more accurately is that Americans tend to keep their shoes on when they're guests in someone ELSE'S house. When in one's own home, shoes go off, because we're in our private comfort zones. But in someone else's house? Not unless invited to. It's not our house, and I doubt other people are excited to see our smelly feet as we lounge around like we own the place.

@neolight16 yeah everydbody everywhere take their shoes off. here though I just walk in my socks around I dont have any flipflops or anything. and during summer if I have like some light sneakers or trainers I dont necesserily take them off... during winter or autumn when you wear some heavy boots you have to get them off though
