Someone commented to say " thousands of guitarist who could put bireli in box"? ! LOL! thats some funny sh#T man! ..reality check : Bireli is one of the top all around guitarist on the planet..and hella fine electric bassist and violinist.
His Pat Martino licks didn't cut it. He played well but they didn't take the tune anywhere. Now don't get laa huffy and call me something stupid before you watch my video. Ron Lucca perpetual motion.
Ron, your perpetual motion is extremely sloppy. I'd like to see you get on the stage with Bireli, your musical pyrotechnics won't "cut it" when your left in the dust by the changes.
Bobby, I have watched Bireli for a long time and I admie his skills. If you recall one of his concerts performing with a violinist and thre other guitarists, there was a short give and take between the violin and Bireli. They started Paganini;s perpetual motion but Bireli couldn't make it past the 12th measure out of 380. I would honored to play with him and he would try to "Chops" me but he can't and you know it. I;ve played with Martino, Grover, McDuff, Art VanDom, and hundreds since 1960.
Note no 1) martino used a lot of takes on the great Giant Steps Cut on Consiousness.. before it went ok, ps he makes a lot of mistakes(that's why it sounds so good... no2)Bireli is the greatest guitarist on earth... no3) The perpetual motion thing you are ref. to is for idiots who cannot play guitar... like you????
I admire your didication to Mr. Bireli. We all have our heros. The comment was made in slang using positive statements. Put some stank on it means I like what you are doing and do it until I can smell it. It was a compliment. Slow down means I don' t want it to end. These were slang terms I used as a kid while living in the ghettos of Philly. Peace!
That video is a reference tape of the first time that Perpetual motion was ever performed at 192 on the guitar in 1991 in my living room on a couch. I was improvising long before you were born during the 1960's with jazz legend Art Vandom. That video is not an improv video. Bireli a fine musician but there are thousands of guitarists of equal talent around the world who put him in a box. His chops are but that's not music.
When he is on he's fabulous. I admire him. That's why I watch him.
PS, I was teaching in the late 70's at a music school where Joey D would show up on Sat. morning at the age of 12 or 13 and blow everyone away. I seen the best up close.
Ron, talk is cheap, walk the walk. post some improv, show us what you got. you are just another nobody that hasn't done jack, while these guys are out doing it for real playing with the best.
Genial!!

bireli was called at the last minute to replace john mc laughlin who felt
hill at this concert which was a tribute to elvin.....
He arrived two hours before the concert was to start....
Does someone by there feel he could have done better

Bireli's a great player but on this vid I'm hearing 70% Martino licks and he's repeating himself in the extreme.

@effsixteenblock50 I agree ....well maybe the modal stuff isn't his forte.

This video rules.
The Ron Lucca video was comparable to something like the "shreds" videos. Not really musical at all.

Mr. Bireli is a proven fine guitarist but he grabbed a hot potatoe on this one; no cigar.
