This is my favorite track on double White. Yeah, no kidding. I find this song terrifying like no other for reasons I find hard to explain. The odd mesh of sounds just really serves to freak me out! Actually, the reversed version of this song is the scariest thing I've heard in my life by far. Regardless, there is such little in the way of music that's actually able to bring the feeling of terror to me, and I find that feeling incredibly interesting and unique. So good on ya John!
It's like they took one of those bad dreams where nonsensical things repeat over and over and over and over (the ones you get when you have a fever), and turned it into sound. Just when you get to a part that you think makes sense, it just repeats and delves back into the same mental whirlpool as before. Some bits are also terrifying for reasons that I can't put my finger on!
yeah, it's a trip report and it does somehow convey a flavour of the weird shit that goes on inside your head to the outside world but fuck knows you won't fully understand until you are actually parliphoneously TRIPPIN....gnow warra mean?
Its funny how The Bealtes' weakest release is more entertaining than most of the music people release these days?? I thought it was pretty entertaining while listening to it!!!!
this is one of the most special tracks that ever made... it's creepy and strange and a lot of secrets.... it's very wierd to think about the making of this and the process of the song...
@orr971 It's just a sound collage. You record a bunch of different sounds and splice the tape strips together. Nowadays, you can do this electronically with a program like Audacity. Nothing "weird" about it.
@Rosethecomposer yes it is kind of weird but I KNOW it's a sound collage... thats the whole special thing, in the days of the beatles it was very hard to do this...
Intended to be whatever the listener imprinted on it...The first recording by a popular band to use sampling...no it's not musical in a popsong sense but it is a stunning achievement in sound and all the Beatles were involved in it's recording...if you have any doubts listen to the voices.
A weird little story for all you Beatles freaks like myself....a true story......I do electric work, and I listen to my iPod while I work. I happened to be listening to the Beatles White Album a few weeks ago. A couple of ladies were testing a panel next to me, and they came to a connection that was number nine on a terminal block, and they both started going "number nine, number nine..." and it was at the EXACT moment that Rev. 9 came on. No lie! I showed them. A creepy and cool moment.
This is a great song.A must hear,at least once.High if possible. Its ahead of its time, and not just noises.Somehow its held together by bits of music and sounds.Again, The Beatles were breaking boundries.
I suppose I hated Number Nine - I was only 12 back in '68 - but I have come to regard it as a seminal track, pointing forward to Scanner/Robin Rimbaud and Future sound of London. I've come to to love it dearly.
i was serching all around youtube for revolution 9, and after clicking about 10 videos, i thinked this was revolution 9 backwards, but i was really wrong, i felt weird when i noticed this was the normal "song", can u imagine what was feeling john when he made this??
I wanted this to be played at my wedding ceremony as my wife walked up the aisle; she nixed that idea pretty quick but I still like the profound nature of it. I am thinking about putting in my will that this played during my funeral!
The other Beatles may have hated it but it ranks up there with the most experimentally innovative things they produced. Too bad John's muse dried up faster than a fish in Death Valley once he and Yoko got serious.
@OroborusFMA Paul only hated it because he'd done similar stuff before John did, but never commercially released it, so John unfairly gets the credit of being the experimental one.
Its a bit scary.
