My buddy and I were obsessed with Fast Traxx back in grade school. We'd sit and draw these things in class all day. I wanted one so bad that my uncle would take me to Kmart and Service Merchandise just to look at them. I asked for one for Xmas, my uncle said they were too expensive but as a kid you didn't understand the concept of money. Then one day, I came home from school and found a big box on my bed. The best Xmas gift I ever got from my uncle. I wish I still had it today.
My brother has a orange Fast Traxx and I have a red Bandit and back in the day those things were a blast, back then it seemed like they made good none hobby grade RC cars/trucks but now the ones you see in stores like wal-mart are junk, you have to spend big money and go to a hobby store to get a half decent RC car/truck now...
Had the black and purple one. Drove it on the ice by the river at my Dads and it slid in and was gone for good. I bought a radio shack "Bedlam" thinking it would have the same control scheme but no... gonna have to find one of these on ebay.
I had the orange fasttraxx. That thing was the fast rc in my neiborhood I was so proud to have it. I used to race it all the time. Damn this makes me wish I could rewind time. Those was the good old days
@wildonejet29 remember the radioshack Golden airrow or white tiger and the Tyco R/c Bandit and the Hovercraft?...man those things were the shiznit.....imgaine if we had something like a traxxas Nitro 4teck 3.3 then...at 12 years old we would of been pulling 40 hour work weeks just to afford the fuel!
loll i had the yellow one and it was the big version .. it was freakin fast ... and also the turdo bandit was cool i rub of all the stud on the rear tire by spining it around in sand that one too was fast .. old memory hahaha
I had an orange truck version of this when i was a kid. That was one of my fav toys... It had two motors and boy was it fast... killed batteries in 10-15 min so even w/ two battery packs you got 30 min of play time before charging both batteries for like 4 hours each!
I had the red fastraxx it even went through water i want to buy another one but I dont think they sell the fast traxxx. bu they should as its the best one out there
WOW makes me feel old now I had the pickup truck one when I was a kid I also had the tyco rc that could flip over and keep going that thing was tough.
the truck and car were same i think urs was prolly faster due to a better battery or better driving haha anyway there both on ebay check it out : D truck and car ^^
Question. So how come they don't make r/c vehicles to go super fast like they did then? Today, when you go to places like K-Mart or Wal-Mart and get the r/c vehicles for sale there, they are TURTLE SLOW compared to the Tyco Bandit! I had the Black Bandit Truck, that thing would FLY! LOL It was super fast, that much i do remember about it.
sadly like everything else made today including cars everything is made cheaply even trucks now a days have plastic bumpers not steal every is cheaply made anymore i saw the bandit rc truck on ebay 2 days ago might still be there thinking bout it was a harley davidson bandit also the truck nikko
Correct, they do go 250MPH 'SCALE SPEED" So what you would have to do is take the scale of the RC and devide it or somthing like that to the 250mph and it will turn out to be the correct speed, they say 250mph SCALE SPEED to catch peoples attention. It's like me saying for the jato if your buying it from me i say "This jato CAN go 100Mph" But it doesn't unless you do hop-ups..it's so it catches your attention.
I had the Turbo Bandit... two actually. I would alway manage to brake the plastic suspension brace. That part of the frame of the frame should've been made of aluminum.
I had one, it was the full size one but with the truck body, not that tiny truck they show, it was fun putting fireworks on it with home made lego box's to hold them in at forth of july, man do i miss it. it was the best rc car i had when i was a kid.
I had the green one when i was six. And i seemed to get a new car every year for christmas cause they kept breaking so when i was 13 i got a hobby class car and haven't looked back. Though i would love to find a Fast Traxx that is new un-used!
I used to have a red one of these, and it was honestly the best R/C car I ever had. The battery charge duration was a problem, and the fact that the tracks would stretch out of fit quickly, but it still was very impressive. I used to burry it in the snow and it would travel on the grass beneath a 2' snow drift with no noticeable slowdown. All the 6v versions are trash, and the 9.6v needed better supports on the rear axle/gear casing.
fast traxx, bandit, hi jacker. those were the days when tyco were making real r/c cars.
I remember buggin' the hell out of my mom to get me the fast traxx for christmas but got the hi jacker and it was so f****** fast when fully charged. that brings back memories. thx
The fast traxx in its day was seriously competant and would have given a more expensive rival a scare coming up behind it on any track. I had most of the 9.6 v tycos as a kid and know they are quick. The tycos did damage easy and parts were not sold seperate for them, in other words if they broke you had to buy a complete new car. Or micky mouse a job on it yourself like what I did!
Why don't r/c vehicles now days go that fast? Like the ones you see all of the time at wal-mart, target, etc..? Were r/c vehicles back in the 80's geared higher than today's r/c vehicles? I have the new 1/10 Scale Dukes of Hazzard car, and it is semi-fast. As in, not too fast, not too slow either. It sure as heck isn't as fast as that Bandit truck in that commercial! I had the Bandit growing up, i surely do miss that thing.
Tyco rc cars of today are considerably slower and the reason is safety! The 9.6v turbo bandit, fast traxx etc would have given you a nasty bruise if they hit you full speed bare foot or in the leg. As a toy it was considered too fast so Tyco in the mid 90's decided to focus on their slower 6V jet turbo range and charged twice the price! They compensated for the slowness of the 6v jet turbo range of cars by adding gimmicks to their cars,,fancy crappy extras. Pitty!
i still got mine no way id part with it

These were some damn nice R/C toys.
I had one of the large red ones, it'd climb my garage door a few feet up by simply goosing it with the front of the tracks flat against the door.
But the tracks themselves were poorly made, and the rear-axle shaft plastic was cheap so after awhile of heavy impacts they'd give out.
Damn thing would dig itself down into 3' of snow and run on the grass under the snow....
