  • Correction to this train = This is NS #172. Also at that time NS and GE were going through a test period with a computerized "Distributed Power" (helpers). For that period, NS used train 172, because it was a straight run from Burmingham, AL to Linwood, NC. Which means this train's consist dosen't change during the trip. All of our other mixed freight trains makes stops at different citys along the way. Mixed freight trains #'s usually start with 1. Even #'s go north & odd #'s go south. Be Safe.

  • @tjkimmons Thanks for the info. I've learned a lot from fellow railfans and railroad employees.

  • thanks im getting a new camera for christmas

  • That'll be great. You'll be able to make some really nice videos.

  • like a boogie woogie choo choo train!!! was that a short and two longs I heard? Kings Mountain A Great Town! Love that Fish Box

  • I can taste it now, flounder, shrimp, and hush puppies. Can't beat that fish box.

  • Don' forget that Ice Cold Sundrop!!!

  • Oh yeah! Can't live without it!

  • NS 9223 had a SWEET sounding horn.

  • Hey,Thanks for the reply! Happy Holidays!

  • When did the ES44's begin service on The CSX and NS? I had not seen many by the Granite Sub yet.

  • It's been a while but I really don't know exactly when they started.

  • Yeah, it definitely is. It's just not complete without the horn. Before I joined YouTube I had no idea there were so many makes and models of horns. And everybody has their favorites. I guess the K5LA is mine.

  • I like to hear 'em lay on that horn when they go through multiple crossings.

  • Yeah, sometimes you get really good echo from the horns as they go through town.

  • I can't believe they run 50 on a curve like that. What's up with the GEVO DPU, it's not like they need it, no majour hills or grades, must have accidently wedged itself in there ha. Nice videos!

  • Thanks. Yeah they run pretty fast around that curve all the time. Those wheels really squeal on the rails when they go that fast. I hope to get some more video there pretty soon.

  • Track speed is 50 MPH for freight, 60 MPH for intermodal, and 79 for Amtrak. And that is a 172 not 176.

  • awesome horn i agree

  • Whats the track speed through Kings Mountain???

    Nice video!;o)-

  • If I remember correctly it's the standard max for the Piedmont Division which is 74 mph.

  • It's 172. Also running some coal train with dp...

  • That's true!! There the ones that sometimes sees a DPU in the middle of the train.

The Second one is #212 since that where those type of Autoracks appear!

    Nice Clip!

  • Thanks Chase. I didn't realize they were doing the occasional DPU in the middle.

  • Nice horn!

  • I like NS horns best.

  • Did I just see what I thought I seen?!?!?!?!?! Mid Train GEVO!?!?!?! DAMN!!! I gotta get down there!!!!

  • That had to be some kind of freak occurrance because I never see that around here. Southern used to run mid-train helpers all the time in the 60's and 70's. Is this a new trend in that direction? I really don't know.
