i believe the way he made the comment reflects how much he was trying to his point right. after all, a war like this has its start from one man's nod has to be supported by lots of others' recognitions by a continual propaganda, be it politically motived or not. klein was trying to egoistically make his case, and perhaps the anti-american sentiment in afghanistan right now is going to wreak havoc, but like everything that comes with its consequence, it's time to try the peaceful path.
Lame FAIL, I gave the video a thumbs down for being so stupid to think we don't know you've taken the interview out of context where Joe Klein says Ed Shultz holding up the sign saying "Get Out" Is stupid !
Joe Klein and Time were two loud advocates for the neo-con adventurism into Afghanistan. They weren't worth listening to then and they sure as Hell aren't worth listening to now. If we could resurrect each and every one of the KIA in Afghanistan explain the current status of the war and ask them if the war was worth fight, I wonder if they would agree with Joe the Warmonger?
I guess Klein forgot what he said during the last POTUS election:
"It's not about John McCain per se -- it's about WAR, and those who push it without giving a damn about the consequences for the U.S.A. or the young soldiers who defend it. (Including, yes, McCain.)"
Since then, Joe's pals in the Corporatocracy have brought him back around to spewing their message, with the help of a little cash money no doubt.....
Klein's a corporate hack. Always has been, always will be.....
"A racket is best described, I believe, as something that is not what it seems to the majority of the people. Only a small "inside" group knows what it is about. It is conducted for the benefit of the very few, at the expense of the very many. Out of war a few people make huge fortunes."
- Major General Smedley Butler ("War Is A Racket")
Yes a million dollars per soldier and yet most of them make less than minimum
wage and some are on food stamps. We should pull them out and pay them more after all they are putting there life on the line. Would you put you life on the line for that kind of dough?
The decision to stay is foolish & unsustainable as well. I believe those who wish us to be at war want to push us over the brink financially. If they can break Soviet Union, they can damage US. They are using the elixir of 'freedom'.
Joe Klein is a myopic waste of space - perfect poster boy for the Military Industrial Media Complex. Reject their Kool-aid immediately.
We need to get out of Afghanistan, but we shouldn't do it because of word-twisting and deception. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that what Joe Klein was referring to as "stupid" wasn't the concept of getting out of Afghanistan, it's the act of writing something on a sign and holding it up to the camera when you're SUPPOSED TO BE having an open debate.
One Lie Machine (the Republicans) is enough. Put an end to these con games.
We need to get out of Afghanistan. We are killing our young men and boys. We are killing military and civilians in Afghanistan. Why do we have a right or a need to do this? Financing the senseless wars has placed America in a weakened position. Some other countries do not agree with us. We could lose our standing completely, if we have not already done so, and preventing Americans from having medical care, so that wars may continue shows a complete lack of morals.
Zbigniew Brzezinski, US National Security Adviser under Jimmy Carter, has as much as said that the reason we lured the Russians into Afghanistan was to bring down the USSR by destroying their armies and draining their economy, waging war in a hopeless terrain. The British had a bad time there, too. Why can't we learn from others' mistakes??
@46streicher Afghanistan wasn't called the "graveyard of empires" for nothing. Still, the Taliban would likely topple the weak & corrupt Karzai government & help the fundos of N.W. Pakistan to topple their own weak & corrupt Pakistani government & get at those nukes.
Asking volunteers to sacrifice life and limb for a war built upon lies is not just stupid, its criminal. Joe Klein is cog in the machinery of war and empire.
Most of us already knew Iraq was a lie,and we knew we were stealing their oil,we also appeased AIPAC by having a military base in the middle east. Afghanistan is another lie, their reason THEY WANT TO KILL US,THEY WANT TO KILL US,and you'd be surprised at the number of people that believe that nonsense. they just want us out of their country, and stop meddling in their affairs
No person or company should be allowed make a profit off of war. That would take the incentive out of prolonging wars. Getting out would reduce the deficit that Republican phonies are claim they are so worried about. Plus we wouldn't be wasting lives and resources.
No person or company should be allowed make a profit off of war. That would take the incentive out of prolonging wars. Getting out would reduce the deficit that Republican phonies are claim they are so worried about.
This is why corporatist Hawks/schills like Klein rarely dare to show up on progressive truly main stream American thinking shows like Ed's..They have no valid argument as to why we have spent unnecessary soldier lives, and $300 billion, on a country with a GDP of only $14 billion except oil/gas scams, fearmongering, and support of the CIA drug traffic hidden empire.
Joe Klein was equating Ed Schultz's simple statement to end the war with right wing political discourse. In his eyes, Shchult's simple anti-war statement is equal to calling for the murder of politicians that voted for Obama's healthcare---- or so his thinking seems to go.
This guy either just doesn't get it or it is all about the money to him. I wonder what his views would be if he was fighting this war. Since he believes it is so justifiable, I think he should go over there and take the place of some kid who was in the national guard. He has no clue what killing another human being or sitting in a fox hole waiting to die does to a person. I am not a true pacifist but if the U.S. is going to declare war, there should be a damn good reason. What an idiot.
Like I read in the Bible or somewhere, "Stupid is as stupid does". (or was that Forrest Gump?) The war, and occupation in this lowly place is going as planned. This war is the perfect cover story to destroy the American economy and have an excuse to do whatever the rulers of the planet want without too much opposition from the public.
Klein tells it like it is. Ignoring the public will has become de jure for elected representatives and respected (sic) pundits. And we live with it - stupid is as stupid does, no?
The Military Industrial Complex are the terrorists. The U.S. has been stuffing their pockets with loads of cash for decades. They invent and promote conflicts just to sell their people killing machines. President Eisenhower warned us, but did we pay attention, NO.
We should not have wasted the life of even one American on that war. People like Joe Biden were against it in the beginning. Is Joe Biden stupid? Is Russ Feingold?

Reports even before we went into Afghanistan said that there are over a trillion dollars worth of minerals in Afghanistan. That and the pipeline are why American soldiers and Afghan civilians are dying there. So some greedy Corporate owners can walk away with the money after American citizens have paid the price once again.
Oh yeah Mr. Klein: and your take on history is so profoundly brilliant and scholarly!! As Big Ed said, your greed dictates your moronic take on the whole issue. Educate yourself, Mr. Klein, before you call anyone other than yourself "stupid"!!!
Imagine if we put all this money into the US education system. We are wasting billions of dollars for something that is not working. We need to stop the killing & start negotiating a peace. The same happened in Vietnam. Pig Oil pointed out to its political house pets in Congress a map of the oil leases they were salivating about signing off the Southern Vietnam coast.
