Mean streets song at the end. epicccccccccccc always wondered why they chose this song when there were heavier stuff from post 1973 throughout the recent past. But heck this is good enough. CREAM!!! Fuck Yeah!!! :D
I honestly believe that after Cream, Clapton just became a vag and didn't make music that was half as good as he's playing in this jam. Layla and all that other gay shit he had goin on from the 70's onward with his huge random ensemble bands was plain stupid. When people regard him as one of the best of all time and the "Clapton is God" deal, I agree with that but only while he was in the Yardbirds and with Cream and Blind Faith. After that he just was never the same or as good.
@111WWEEBB In his defense .people he loved were dying,he was in love with his best friends wife, he had pulled the plug on a history making but toxic musical marriage that missed out on the little county fair they were having at Woodstock ,then Delaney & Bonnie's tent revival approach to making music .even more lay in wait for him personally- he has loved , won & lost .But he finishes the fight ..... standing tall.
@mikexlong Not even dude. Besides, that's just one moderately famous song he did on his own out of the next 3-4 decades with nothing really else to note. In Cream he had 3 albums in from 66-68 that sold more than basically every other band did at the time in a shorter time span. Yea he went on to make different music after 1970 that he wanted to do more of and that's great for him, really. It just wasn't any good
@111WWEEBB actually I was talking about the album. whether you like it or not is up to you of course, but he and duane allman really jam it out on that album. it was after that one when his guitar playing became a lot more conservative, at least on his albums.
@111WWEEBB Don't forget his stint with John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers. He really got close to the core of blues with John. His experience with them really prepared him for Cream.
Oh, my g-o-d !!! Eric Clapton young and bold - on Gibson SG and Marshall-totemic divinity - playing that unbelievable shining garland of riffs and licks, burning his talking guitar like no other was able to. Isn't that happiness?
I am 27 but I know amazing music when I hear it. This is genius. It blows my head apart when I put on the headphones and put the volume up. It's a feeling like something between sex and drugs!
I know the feeling, I am 44 today, and I growed up with glitter-rock and disco, but the first time I heard band like Cream,Led Zep, Stones, The Doors,The Who,Peter Green´s Fleetwood, it was on the same level as sex, sorry never tried drugs !!!
Man you can just almost hear the cones flapping his trousers so much wind is getting pushed by those Marshalls...god what I wouldn't give for a stack rig. It must have felt so good under the fingers. You'd have to be a player to understand this..
Not entirely. The 'Fool SG' he was using was in fact '64 model, and his pickups weren't custom but were entirely stock Patent Number ( as opposed to PAF ) humbuckers. Furthermore, he was using two Marshall Superlead 100 watt heads and two full stacks, meaning 2x2 = 4 cabinets, not 6.
the sound of the amps buzzing in the beggining... amazing

For that first 4 minutes the entire rhythm of that song (the bass, the guitar and the drums) is tighter than a duck's arse. Masterful!
b25364 2 years ago
...Yep: the first 4 minutes are the definitive version of this song. Insanely tight playing.
