  • Lokk I said my grrl is a blondhairedblackgrrl! but Maybe I'm wrong- iffin ya got that feelin -honey shout it out Kathie McDonald you are fu------g AWESOM!!!!!

  • Awesome.

  • Vaya basura de de versión, esa mujer no sabe cantar, por favor que se una a la supremas de cordoba.

  • Her voice is every bit as strong and sultry as when she sang back-up for Leon Russell in the early '70's. What a stage presence! What a talent!

  • i like this cover, she reminds me of Teena Marie. and that is a great thing. you go MRS. LADY

  • ... Been following this lady since the days of The Unusuals, and probably kathi is the only one that would remember those days. bless you, Kathi, and keep on keepin' on!

  • fantastique

  • WOW fantastic,I did'nt know Janis Joplin had a sister?What a talent.

  • Talent!!!

  • awful , just my opininion though ....

  • Jokes for Idiots....Rick James Twin Brother maybe?

  • I first heard this amazing voice back around '79 in the MistyMoon NightClub, on Gottingen St. Halifax, Nova Scotia. I LOVED her singing (as well as the passion she emits on stage) back then and love it even more today.

  • I believe it was a Thursday night and the bar was packed to an excellent, well behaved bunch of drunks loving the Boogie Woogie, R&B, Blues, and hilarious antics of Baldry on stage. There was a black bass player with them back then (I think he was Rick James twin brother, because he wore his hair in a simular style with the beads). He was great on the bass anyway. They All put on wicked performances. I guess that's why I remember it so vividly.

  • HOLY SHIT.

This is the single best cover of that song EVER.

  • Standing ovation on this one!!!

  • Um... Ok... How do I put this delicately...

Holy freakin' smackers!!! OMG!!! Favorite! Voice and band are totally awesome! Learned something I can add to improve the way I sing it:) THANK YOU:) I remembered to breathe again when you were done:D Whew! Man... I've never heard it sung like this...

The worst thing about a live performance is, you can't hit "rewind!" I can hit this 10 times in a row... cool:) Thank you:)

  • They can try, and they can try, but they will never emulate Etta James!!

  • I heard Kathi on the radio a few months ago and have been looking for the album "Insane Asylum" ever since. Yea, no luck (expect a $500 copy on amazon). Anyone got a copy or a lead? She is amazing.

  • What a treat. This lady has been on so many first class albums one of which was The Rolling Stones "Exile On Main Street" just re released.

  • Thanks Rodney, that was done right there in White Rock, If I'd known you at the time, I'd gotten you a front row seat.

    Hope all is well

  • Would love to sit in a intimate setting listening to your band. Yes!.

  • All of you "Insane Asylum" fans go to grooveshark and search for 'kathi mcdonald'. You'll be presented with at least one track from the '74 album. Clicking on the album name should display all tracks.

Interested in saving the tracks. Do a google search for "pandora saver2". Look for the 'hak5' link.

    Enjoy!

  • A great version of "I'd Rather Go Blind" Gets you choked up..First heard this song on on Johnny Miester's show WXPN public radio in Philly by Coco Taylor! Ripping guitar solo if you can find it and of course Coco RIP...

  • I was extremely lucky to find a vynil copy of a Koko Taylor and her bues machine. I love the blues but sadly up to the time I got this album did not know her. But believe me now I do. The albums called live from chicago. Get yourself a copy if you can and listen the best version ever of id rather go blind. but this version is also nice.

  • Fabulous!

  • Fantastic post!.... thanks for sharing santamara!

Kathi.... what a powerhouse!.... amazing voice!

All the musicians are wonderful but I particularly loved the Hammond organ solo.

  • p.s..... if I had an "organ", Kathi's voice makes we want to do an upright organ solo..... hence blindness!

  • @scorp8pus

that would top it offfff! and kill me!! you must want my heart to stop!! that instrument would allow this performance to grow wings and fly to heaven! these musicians are soooo powerful.......... I LOVE IT!!

  • @scorp8pus

I agree 110% Leslee!! Awesome share Dori (santamara)!!!!

  • She definitely sounds great. I like how she sings the song, with her own spin to it. Excellent.

  • Goddamn... Kathi McDonald, eh? Nailed it. Wonder why we don't hear more from her? Amazing voice.

  • really well done

  • Why compare her to Janis, its an Etta James song.

  • Well....She did sing with Big Brother after Janis died.

  • Janis had already left Big Brother and the Holding Co - I know - did some gigs w/ them.

  • Thats cool, What band were you in? Yes, I meant that Janis was already gone & then she did an album with them after Janis died as well. Kathi has been behind the scenes on many of rocks greatest records.

  • My response was to someone asking why people compare her to Janis....I was just saying probably because of the Big Brother connection.

  • I think they compare to Janis as it has that raspie blues sound like Janis and she sang back up for Janis I believe

  • kinda like janis, but No janis..... sorry still worthy. beautiful

  • Top Shelf Blues Singer Ive loved you always Kathi

  • just about the best blues band around, its simple but soooo friggin good.

  • Top of her class, she is right up there with Janis Joplin. That incredible fantastic voice! She makes your soul ache for more.... nice vid

  • sorry mate, but she leaves Janice standing cold still(for me anyway)

  • wow she sang her lungs out ! great stuff ! all heart truly fantastic ! Dana Fuchs version is gutsy as well !

  • just awesome

  • WOW

  • Brilliant performance...

  • she song that song

  • sing it ms lady beautiful nice deep voice

  • Great voice and this lady sings from the soul. Music is not just something that can be heard. I felt the music as I heard it. Great job Kathi.

  • kathi sings this real nicely but the original by etta james is better ...still makes me cry lol

  • Why does everyone have to judge music like a gymnastic competition, this is about heart, soul, and the eternal things, not points, or a position on some music chart. They are both true artists who have much to offer. As musicians, we live in the moment of sound and space, something most non musicians will never understand.

  • beautiful what u say, so true

  • gosh...nice one....

  • i'd like to say she got both RHYTHYM AND BLUES

  • Kathi's vocals on Quicksilvers "Gypsy Lights" are really something.

  • yo my god !!! really good !

  • SHE CAN SING REALLY GOOD

  • she is amazing forreal.

  • she has a good voice, sometimes through it i can hear a little bette midler, i was having to listen to all of it which i dont do unless i like what i hear. 5/5

  • Thanks so very much for sharing the vocal gift

of Kathi McDonald. Just saw where she turned

60(!)last year; hard to believe. I first saw

her when she toured with Leon Russell and the

band he put together after Joe Cocker. Kathi

is in fine form here, and she sounds good too!

    Mmmmm Hmmm.

  • She sounds wonderful....

  • whoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo :o)

  • YES! SHE IS SINGING!!!!!!!!!!!

  • wow... i'm a blues singer myself... and i don't think a singer is a great singer unless she's feeling the music like this woman right here... i could learn a lot from her... just.. wow!

  • where can you download kathi mcdonalds "id rather go blind" at???!

ive been searching for it, can you help?!

  • wow I have been searching for Kathi since the 70s, thanks!!! She is even more awesome now than when I played her lp on the old turntable. And the girl does not age, her looks have been suspended in time. GREAT SONG!!!

  • Wow! glad I turn on the tube. great performance, That's what its all about. "Feeling" the words of the song. great job! many great performers figured that out along time ago.

  • Thanks to Bleadbelly1 for the share.Great

  • Now that was great..times 10...thank you..thank you..at one point the band was supposed not play louder but lower and then you were supposed to go into your lovely high sounding beautiful voice...there was to much instrument at one point...you guy's were beter than good though..loved it.

  • where can i download this from?

this performance just always gets me!!!

  • amazing voice.

    its helping me cope...

  • I think she over does it a little. She should let the music, especially the piano take over at some parts. And the raspy high notes are a nice touch, but overused. But overall, I like her use of notes. espeically at 2:04-2:11

  • She's great, and a great band. A suggestion of Janis Joplin maybe?...
