  • It's hard to learn, it's my mother language, but it was more easy for many of us to learn English on school then Dutch, correctly. It has much discrepancy between the spelling and pronunciation plus millions of sayings etc etc.

  • Hi dutchforn00bs. Which part of Netherlands are you from ? How tall are you and do you have green or brown eyes ? I am curious, from what I have heard certain parts of Netherlands are mostly blue eyes and blond. However some parts have people with mostly brown eyes and hair. Is that true ?

  • @vkoo32 We're mostly just mixed everywhere :D I guess Frisians are known for being blonde & blue-eyed a little bit, but it's not like there are no dark-haired people in that province :D I'm from Zwolle (north/east), am 1.65m and have grey/blueish eyes, I think. I'm never really sure.

  • Wauw xd

  • @dutchforn00bs,

Quick question: How is the name Coykendall pronounced in Dutch? In America, it's pronounced "Kirkendall" so I'm just curious.

  • @MegaAstrodude I'm not sure, haven't heard it before & oy is not a sound that exists in Dutch.

  • @dutchforn00bs i think kooikendal :P

  • @MegaAstrodude My guess is that it is some kind of bastardisation of Kuikendaal. For the pronunciation of 'ui', see dutchforn00bs's video about vowels.

    Good luck.. ;)

  • heej, how about: im from finland and im finnish? :)

  • @anyalify The Netherlands (of couse), a part of Belgium (They also speak frensh and German there), Luxembug (a very smal land), Parts of Germany, Suriname, South Africa, parts of Indonesia and some other countries like Aruba...

  • i am trying to learn dutch but... Dank u!

  • Dat is heel goed ! :-)

  • Leer spreken... Learn talking...

  • @DaeleRyan In een normale Engelse zin is het altijd nog 'Learn to talk' en niet 'Learn talking'. Je moet niet altijd alles letterlijk vertalen.

  • I find it awesome how dutch and my first language ( afrikaans ) are so similar. Even though I can't speak dutch, I understand every word of it, and dutch people understand me. LOL

  • @graydolphan hahaha, no, sorry! I only have one first language :D

  • Hi! You're wonderful :)

Hopefully, I'm going to study in your country next year (in English, not in Dutch), so I wanted to take a look at what your language is like and it's interesting... and seems quite easy, compared e.g. to German :) People told me that Dutch sounds like a sore throat but I don't think so :)

You seem very nice, too, I hope I can find a Dutch friend like you :)

BTW, is it true that almost all Dutch people speak perfect English? I will be so ashamed of my English among you :/

  • @Karin141622 Where in the Netherlands do you want to go? I wouldn't say we speak perfect English, but most people can definitely speak some English :)

  • @dutchforn00bs I'm applying for a bachelor's programme at the University of Leiden, but most classes of that programme take place in Den Haag, so I'd probably need to live there.

Everything depends on how I will do in my English exams and also on the financial situation of my family :/ But getting to the Netherlands would be really AWESOME...

  • WOW! Is it even possible to be this helpful? :)

  • Waarom kijk ik dit? xd

  • Irish :D and loving the way dutch sounds.... I love the way it sounds when they say 'u'.... :)

  • Hoi, Lidewij van Nederland. Ik ben kabouter uit Frankrijk.

Forgive my ill grammar if it is badly written. I wish to visit the Rien Poortvliet museum someday.

But I can't speak dutch. All I know, is from your awesome videos.

  • @Cl0taire why did you wrote 'kabouter'? its means gnome in english... and i dont think your a gnome? are you?

  • Thanks youuuuuuu =) Your the best!

  • Your name is awesome ^.^

  • The German equivalent for heet is heißen. Ich heiße Thomasina. Love your videos :-) Learning Dutch because I live right on the border of The Netherlands and Germany. I think German is only hard because of the grammar rules, but I do think the pronouncement of Dutch will be way harder.

  • waaat? hoe krijg je je accent zo goed weg!?!

  • Ik kom uit Perú (ok, 1 step forward "Ik" is "I")

Do I have to say it in every conjugation like in english or is it like spanish when you don't have to say the pronoun when you conjugate the verbs?

  • damn you speak it fluent ! nice job

  • Dutch reminds me of a version of English-German that got lost over time thanks to the weed :) I think Dutch is easier if you speak German and English, but the pronunciation is harder :)

  • Thank you Lidewij, I live in the states (USA) but was born in Indonesia. Have a few relatives in Holland and recently got an offer to work in Belgium near Brugge, so really trying to pick up Dutch real fast.

  • Ik ben Nederlands !

  • I think Dutch seems to be like German... but harder... is it just me or what?

  • @SebMcayon it is ranked as the second hardest language to learn for English native linguests in the world, after Mandarin

  • @TheObelix876 would you say it's really hard for spanish speakers? I'm having such a hard time, but I wanna learn it :D

  • @raulpisko7 i dont know. Spanish is not that hard for Dutchs speakers

  • @TheObelix876 do you speak it?

  • @raulpisko7 Spanish? no although my grandparents moved to Spain and i went there for 2 weeks in those 2 weeks i learned to fluently speak Basic Spanish and understand (both vocal and reading) Basic to Moderate Spanish i cant write it though :P

  • @TheObelix876 spanish is pretty hard fot dutcheese!;)

  • @SebMcayon German is harder.. =3= '

  • Thank you for helping me with my Dutch!

  • LOVE your videos and how you break it down to each syllable pronunciation and repeating it twice or thrice. Keep up the good work. Btw, what software do you use to edit your videos? Love'em.

  • @loveyourlegwarmers I use sony vegas studio HD :)

  • hey, 1 question.. are you originally dutch or originally english? because you speak both languages quite flat (no accent)

  • @queenzortje Dutch :)

  • @dutchforn00bs aah! doete goed jonge! :P

  • @queenzortje Are you kidding? You can obviously hear that she's not a native English speaker.

  • @OfficialCarmenGort I´m sorry, it´s just my opinion, and I´m not english btw

  • @queenzortje Neither am I >.<'

  • @OfficialCarmenGort whatever, it was just my opinion, deal with it,

  • @dutchforn00bs wat bedoel je?

  • @jessevazo dat is een wijk in zwolle..

  • Does someone know what "kanneke" means in English

  • @Cannibalzz Hey. That is not a word in standard (Netherlands) Dutch. It might be a the word "kan" and the diminutive "eke" (which is used in some dialects), though.. in that case it'd mean something like: small jug/pitcher.

  • @dutchforn00bs OK thanks. I think you're right. I heard it in a Lais song.

  • @Cannibalzz kanneke is belgian

  • i am in mourning over the loss of the "g" sound... wonderful language, but "g" was innocent

  • This video series is really cool! It is really easy for me to pronounce cause I speak Irish Gaelic. Lots of similar sounds. Thanks so much for teaching us! :)

  • Jeeeh waar woon je in zwolle? Ik woonde in stadshage :D

  • @jessevazo wipstrik :)
